Check Engine Light On problems of the 2015 Chrysler 200 - part 1

Says to shift into park and restart the car. Takes a few tries to turn on. Check engine light came on and performance shifting unavaliable notice showed up. Now it there is a herking motion everytime the gas is touched.

The vehicle would cut off after starting & driving a very short distance then the check engine/flashing lightning bolt would come on. Once the car was off and then restarted, the lights would go off and it might run fine as long as you didn't accelerate too quickly & drove a good distance without having to stop and start a lot. The issue would arise more when driving short distances with constant stops & tight turns or sometimes when having to DE-accelerate quickly. Once the car was off for a second then restarted, the only light that would sometimes stay on would be the check engine light. Therefore, I took the car to an o�reillys for a free test & the only codes that came back was p0302 - cylinder 2 misfire & p2172 - throttle actuator control system. The issue had gotten worse so I had a mechanic replace all 4 spark plugs with ngk iridium plugs and the 2nd cylinder ignition coil with a bosch ignition coil. The cylinder 2 misfire code went away when restarting the vehicle but the main issue persists, the car won't stay on & the p2172 tacs code is still present. The vehicle is unsafe & unable to drive. The date I'm using for the question of when the issue happened is when I had the spark plugs and ignition coil replaced. The original issue started around the 2nd week of December somewhere between December 10th-December 14th.

The vehicle check engine light permanently stays on and the vehicle will just die as you're driving it could be in the middle of an intersection it could be when you're reversing it doesn't matter I just wants to die and then not start up and it sounds like the gears are not automatically shifting. We have to have the computer reset often in order for our vehicle to drive. It's been happening for a couple years now.

Shortly after driving the vehicle after start up, it stalls and begins to quickly slow down. No warning lights, or check engine light. Once you get it stopped and restart it, it does the same thing about 3-7 miles down the road. Then it won't do it at all for the rest of the day. This has caused dangerous situations. No codes to go on for a possible problem. This model has han many many complaints for this same problem, and I believe recalled before for it, but a check of recalls for this VIN shows no un-repaired recalls. I do not know what to do at this point. Vehicle has just under 60,000 miles and is in very good condition. Dealer has stated that without codes showing up, and or witnessing the problem they really can't do anything about it. This has happened during busy traffic and caused cars to almost hit me from behind when mine stalls and slows down from no power. Luckily I have been in areas that have a shoulder to move onto. I honestly do not think I am being told everything about this problem from the dealership, because from researching it on line, I have found thousands of complaints this very same problem, and nobody seams to have a clear answer for it that I can find. I really need help with this. Thank you.

I have had this vehicle less than 6 months. . . . . It has now started to stall in the middle of traffic. . When coming to a stop and upon takeoff from signal lights. . The steering wheel locks up and the check engine light and battery light and at one occasion the steering light came on. . . You can restart it and it will run but for how long before it dies altogether? I am terrified to drive this vehicle. . . It has never been reported in a recall. . . . Not this VIN number, but I have done my research and mine is not the only complaint. . . And all the complaints are almost exactly the same. . . . My life and the lives of my family are at stake each time I get in this car. . . What recourse do we have before someone gets killed?.

As I am driving down the road the vehicle will completely stall out. The first time it just seemed to have had a dead battery. I got a jump it was fine. After that the transmission died so I had to stop the car turn it back on and my check engine light remained on but it drove fine. Three days later, it dies again while driving. Both times it had died while being driven electronically were on 55mph roads. The time my transmission died it was right down the road from my house so I wasn't going too fast.

I bought a 2015 Chrysler 200c about 2years ago. A few days ago my check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and had it checked and they said that my engine have a defect in it which caused the cylinder heads to malfunction. I was told this is common with the v6 engines in these vehicles. I was told that Chrysler put a extended warranty on 2011 models thru 2014. My 2015 although ithas the same engine didn't make the cut. Everyone I call say my warranty expired and there's nothing they can do now I'm stuck with a car that I'm paying for that's practically no good.

I purchased this car brand new and I've had the same problem to the current date. The car engine will shut off while I am driving. I took it back to the dealer and they said it was a software problem and they updated the software. The car worked fine for a while and then started to have the same problem. I took the car back and the dealership said there was no problem found with the car. Now the car is not under warranty and I'm stuck with this problem and a payment for this death trap. This past week the car has stalled multiple times. It will shut off and the "d" light will blink. I put the car in park, shut it off, and then try to restart. It struggles to restart, and then will finally start. This happened while I was making a left turn and left my family and I coasting in front of oncoming traffic. I have made a right hand turn and the car engine shut off causing the car behind me to sla. On brakes and drive up on the sidewalk. This issue is very dangerous. My car is not listed under a recall, but it is having the same issue as Chrysler 200's that are being recalled. Trading this car will only set up another buyer because this issue is not detectable. No check engine light or any other caution light comes on.

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200s. The contact stated that while driving about 25 mph, the vehicle decelerated. The check transmission and check engine lights illuminated. The shifter did not shift to park or reverse. The contact applied the emergency brake, put the vehicle in neutral and pulled to the side. The vehicle was taken to the hill-kelly Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram dealer (850-476-9078, located at 6171 pensacola blvd, pensacola, FL 32505) where it was diagnosed that the "control module" needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The contact was told to call the NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Fe.

My car stalls and dies when slowing for stoplights or slowing traffic. No check engine lights it does eventually restart. Terribly scary when I have my children in the car. No one can figure out what is wrong as it downs throw any codes and no idiot lights come on. This has happened multiple times today being the most recent.

While driving or accelerating from a stop my vehicle will lose all power and will display a message saying shift to park. The gear knob will flash and lock, the check engine light and other messages will pop up saying to service transmission. Also while accelerating my vehicle jumps. There was one time the vehicle completely stalled while turning. All of my driving is on city streets and very rarely do I drive on a highway.

First problem: the car stalls and/or dies while driving. It did this while my daughter was driving and she had to pull over on the highway. I managed to get it started and drive it home but it would not go over 25 mph. The check engine light, the electronic throttle control light, and the traction control light (?) were all on. Second problem: there is a message to service airbag system comes on. I did some research and found other people wit the same problem. On the yellow wire box under the passenger seat, there was a black latch (?) that clicked when I squeezed. The message went away.

5/30/19 I purchased my car from gage auto sales in oregon. On 06/01/19 I was left stranded on the side of the road because it would not start. I had to have the car towed to the dealership. On 6/2 dealership said there were no starting issues and no codes and I could pick up the car. Starting issues progressively got worse. Leaving me stranded many times. Check engine light came on 6/23/19. 6/24/19 took car back to the dealership which they had until 07/12/19 stating is was the key fob and push start button. One week it ran fine then rapidly began to not start, check engine lights came on along with transmission lights. The car has been a lemon since day one. The dealership has sent me to a third party mechanic and are telling me the transmission is not covered under my extended warranty. This car had these problems the day after I bought it. It was defective when I purchased it and no one at gage auto sales will help me. I am 23 years old trying to make it on my own and there is no way I can pay 1500 to re-program the transmission. Please help me!.

Check engine light came on, using code p03 misfire on cylinder one; replaced cylinder one and spark plug still coming on and battery flunctuating. Shop stayed it's an electrical issue not the cylinder itself . Battery jumps up and down when in idle and hesitates to start. Do not feel safe taking it anywhereb.

While driving my 200 I lost control of my steering. The check engine light the steering warning light as well as my traction light. I could not turn my wheel at all.

My airbag light stays on permanently. It used to come on intermittently. I have had the problem fixed twice by a Chrysler repair facility. I was told not to worry it's just a wiring harness problem. I'm scared because I've seen airbag recalls and I don't know why my car hasn't been recalled yet. My car also seems to be jerking more frequently. It jerks sometimes when I'm accelerating. I was told this was normal because of the type of engine. I inquired about this not long after I bought the car in 2015. The jerking seems to be getting worse. My check engine light stays on. I can provide info that my airbag sensor problem was fixed twice.

I started to feel the jerk randomly while the car switched gears. Took it for an oil change and told the dealership/mechanic three different times. Each time when I picked it up, they told me they were unable to see the problem after driving it around. It happens sporadically but when it does, the car feels like it ran into a wall and jerks hard. If I was able to make it happen I would so the mechanic could see. Over the past few days I have noticed it has been occurring more frequently. This is taking place while in the highway driving 55 mph, with the cruze control on and still continues with it off. The check engine light also has come on.

I purchased this 2015 200 Chrysler January 1, 2016 from zeigler Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of downers. Address 2311 ogden Ave, downers grove ,IL . Leading up to the engine going out the car would just randomly cut off while in motion and also making turns. I took it back to this dealership and they stated that the engine went out. On June 14,2016 that's when I got an engine replaced. I ask if it was new or used and they assured me that it was a new engine. However keeping up with oil changes, my check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic and was told that I needed a tune up done. So I got my spark plugs changed. After that the car would just cut off while in motion and also turning. I tried driving the car to work while turning it on whenever it cuts off. The brakes got so tight on me that I had to use both feet to stop the vehicle. I got the car towed to a car shop and they stated that this car had to be looked at by a dealership. So I got the car towed to the nearest Chrysler dealership and they stated that there was 4 things wrong with this car. Then called me back and stated that this car needed an engine. This car is under a hundred thousand miles and with this problem occurring again for the second time. Looking for help and answers.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the air bag sensor light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to hendrick Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge (7630 hendrick auto plaza, concord, nc. ) where it was diagnosed that the electrical wires were faulty. The failure was repaired but reoccurred. Also while attempting to start the vehicle the check engine light had illuminated and a diagnostic test was performed by an independent mechanic who indicated the throttle body was faulty. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000.

A few days ago the check engine light came on and according to the manual it was not serious but if continued, to have the code checked. I had not had the opportunity to go, but all seemed to be running normally. I was driving on the highway last night and the thermostat light came on and said something regarding the engine temperature came across the messages. I drove to the nearest gas station and checked underneath the hood, and the engine seemed fine. . . Not very hot to the touch so I decided to try and take it to pep boys to have them check it. When I turned the car back on, the light was no longer illuminated and the message was gone, however the check engine light was still on. The pep boys technician checked the code, the code that was read was p0128. I spoke with the technician and he had said he had seen a lot of this issue with the 200 models and advised me to check the recall. . . Which does not have my vehicle for any.

Car stalling out while driving. Stalled 4 times 12/10/17 then was driving rough, as I was going down the street the red lighting bolt came on along with the check engine light, parking light, traction control light. Went to the gas station to put gas in, started car and the car would not go into drive. It took around 8-10 minutes to get the car to go into drive. There was all kinds of warnings going across the screen saying electrical malfunction service immediately and transmission malfunction service immediately. So I take the car in and the tcm is needing replaced and the engine may need replaced. This is not ok for a 2015 car to have this many problems.

Within the last week, my car has turned off twice while driving it. The first time I was going downhill on an s-curve and the engine turned off and a message appeared on my dashboard to put the car in park and start. The second time I was in stop and go traffic and the car just suddenly turned off and the same message appeared. I was stuck in the middle of the road and had to throw it in park while other cars were trying to go around me while I tried to restart it. When it did restart it, the check engine light was on and it also had a flashing lightning bolt. I was going to go get the check engine light checked the following day, but when I turned my car on in the morning, the check engine light was gone.

While in motion, overheating light and electric throttle light came up on dash display, with temperature reading at 0. The vehicle still drove as normal, I pulled over and turned it off. Restarted after 30 secs and the lights where gone, just check engine light was. Took it to a dealership and was told I had a faulty thermastat. The dealer stated that they have been seeing this issue since November 2016 with Chrysler 200 & Jeep vehicles.

I was driving home from work when the check engine light, engine temperature warning light, and electronic throttle control light came on. In reviewing the potential issues, a number of people have had the same issue, potentially due to a faulty thermostat. When I had the vehicle scanned at autozone, it provided codes p0218 twice and p2181 once.

Engine shuts off while driving, it might restart and it might not. Check engine light comes on and the battery light comes on for a short time. One time it was after work ready to go home, yesterday I was stopped at a red light and it shut off.

I bought the car in February 2016 and was told it was bought back because of a sensor and had gone through full inspection and was cleared for sale. Two days later my check engine light came on and the car had accelerated from 60-92 on it's own. The dealership puts new parts in and every two weeks after I get my car back, the check engine light comes on and the car is accelerating on it's own. Chrysler has a team talking with the dealership but the car has been back around 10 times and is still having the same problem. Last week it accelerated from 72 to 97 on the freeway while my 2 year old son was in the car. We almost hit a semi. I dont understand how Chrysler is able to keep closing my cases and telling me they fixed it when it is still having the same problem. I've googled engine issues on these cars and found mine wasn't the only one doing this. I am paying a lot of money for an unsafe car that keeps accelerating on it's own and nothing is being done.

I was driving my brand new Chrysler 200 that I bought 4 months prior and it was completely shutting off in the middle of the road. . . I lost control of steering until it shut completely off so I could restart it. Very scary when you have your newborn baby and 10 year old in that back seat. Not once did a check engine light come on or any sensor come on to tell me that my vehicle had no oil in it. So I believe the engine, electrical, and sensors are all messed on this vehicle. I do not feel like I should be stuck with it because in the back of my head I no longer feel safe in this vehicle. I am reaching out for help because Chrysler won't and I have owned this care since August and it was in shop for 17 days in January, I have it back but I still don't think it's running correctly.

Bought car is October of 2014. October of 2015, car started having problems. First day it started. Car had trouble turning over. It cranked, and cranked, and finally was able to turn over. Drove it to work that day and felt shakes and vibrations at idle. Next day, same thing. Car hesitates and shakes and check engine light appeared. Towed to dealer where they stated the issue was the recalls and updates to the tcm and pcm. I stated there was something more serious, and they insisted it was just the recalls (power distribution center). Got a call the next day to pick car up. Took off with it, and at next stop light, car stalled. Lights flickered and car felt very rough. Was able to turn back on car. At this time, the a/c stopped working. The defrost was the only thing working no matter what was turned on or off on the dash. Tried to turn ac and defrost on and off and the defrost stayed on the whole time. Made it back to dealer, and told them the issues. While I stood there, the adviser felt the shake when he touched the door, and said there was definitely something wrong and got me a loaner car. Still waiting to hear back.

My engine turned off while driving. I was on a one lane ramp, going about 25 or 30 miles per hour around a bend. The transmission was in drive, not park or neutral. I could not restart my engine. Additional safety features such as forward collision warning, lane sense, and park sense were disabled. I was blocking traffic - the only way to get around me was to go up onto the sidewalk, which is not safe. People behind me tried to help by pushing the car, but could not. I had to call the police to send incident response to push me out of the way. The incident response truck also could not push me out of the way, but after rocking my car several times in an attempt to push the car, the engine would start. The check engine light came on and the screen showed a message saying to service transmisison. I drove to a parking lot and called a tow truck to take me to a dealership. I have found many cases of this happening to other 2015 Chrysler 200 owners, and I think there needs to be an investigation and possibly a recall. The dealership cannot tell me what caused the issue, only that their service manual says reflashing the transmission control module should solve the problem. Chrysler coporate also cannot tell me what caused the issue. Several testimonies online say that their car was not fixed by reflashing the tcm. Having your new car die on the road while driving with absolutely no warning is an unacceptable, possibly fatal risk. I only hope if this happens again, I won't be in an intersection or in front of a semi-truck on the highway.

Car was running beautifully on September 22nd. It was parked in the garage overnight. When I started it the morning of the 23rd, the check engine light flashed and the car was idling very roughly. I drove slowly to the dealer, doug smith Chrysler in american fork, ut. They diagnosed the problem as being a cart and horse concern: apparently the coil on the #6 cylinder had failed and also the coil driver in the pcm had also failed. They don't know which occurred first and then likely caused the other problem. My concern is that the car was nearly undriveable as it was; what if the pcm had suffered a cascading damage of some sort? especially, what if this had happened while I was traveling 70mph on the freeway? I just think that a component of such importance as the pcm should not fail after only 11000 miles. I now have concerns about the replacement: will it be brand new or rebuilt? if rebuilt, how reliable will that end up being? I also feel that a spark plug coil should be more robust than to fail at only 11000 miles. I believe this failure could represent a severe danger to myself and possibly to others if it happened while the car was being driven.

I was on my way home from work when at a red light my check engine light goes on, transmission and park break service lights go on and as the light turned green my car did not accelerate. I put my car on park turned my emergency lights and then shifted to drive . My car then kept changing shifts. As an attempt to get my car home which is only 7 min from work I drove it slowly and every stop I made my car would take at least 2-3 minutes to accelerate. As I arrived home the steering wheel got hard and displayed a warning to put emergency break to prevent from rolling. It then displayed service transmission, service park break, service engine. The next day I took my car to the dealership but was told nothing about a recall for my car.

I purchased vehicle 7/31/2015, on 8/17/2015 vehicle began to jerk, miss out , try to die when driving and then the check engine light came on. I took into shop 8/18/2015 and found out that the motor was bad and it was a factory default and needed replaced. Motor had 468 miles on it. Upon further investigation, we found out that an entire line was produced where some of these motors were not put together properly (missing a seal). To this date, 10/7/2015 I still have not seen any recall or any mention of said problem. My motor was to be replaced, I told Chrysler I wanted them to take the car back. I had only 2 weeks and the major part of vehicle was junk. They suggested a replacement, we tried that solution and 4 weeks into it, they had still not moved. I am now asking them to buy back the vehicle and let me move on. I feel like the public should be aware of this, as there is potentially hundreds of vehicles out there with bad motors sitting on lots, driveways, garages or driving down the road just waiting to fail.

While driving on the expressway at approx 65 mph my vehicle cut off without warning. I lost all power. I was able to manuever to the shoulder and then the check engine light and transmission failure light came on. It took several minutes turning vehicle on and off and trying to shift before the vehicle would come on and shift into drive. This occured on two other occassions. The last time almost resulted in an accident because I couldn't get out of the way of cars coming behind me.

Friday: while wife was driving the car suddenly vibrated and stalled. The vehicle indicated it was still running even though it was off. Was unable to shut off completely for a few minutes, after about 10 minutes car restarted, check engine light remained on. Dealer said to continue to drive. Engine light went off over the weekend. Sunday: driving at approximately 25 miles per hour car suddenly stalled and we were able to coast to side of road. Car indicated it was still on and running even though it was off. Was able to put car in park and eventually shut it off. Car would not restart. Car would not change gears, so unable to put it in neutral when tow arrived. Towed to dealer and they held it until Friday. Said that the pins in the power distribution center were loose and that was the problem. Friday: picked car up from dealer, wife drove it less than 1 mile and it stalled and shut off again in an intersection. After approximately 10 minutes the car restarted. Is now back at the dealer.

Coming down expressway at about 65 mph. Suddenly warning indicated potential transmission failure and car was losing power. Pulled off highway and shut engine down. Restarted and warning was cleared except for check engine light. Took car to dealer and wiring harness was replaced and computer reset. On April 7th, 2015 in heavy traffic car lost engine power and began to stall I was able to get car (barely into turnaround lane before engine stalled out. Mileage on car was around 9500 miles. Warning again related to transmission failure and all transmission indicator lights were illuminated. Car locked up and could not be moved as wheels would not turn. Car towed to jim riehls in warren, mi. Dangerous situation as auto completely locked up in heavy traffic. Police demanded immediate movement and called a tow truck and stood by until truck arrived.
