36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2023

I was barely coming off of the freeway during traffic hour when my dashboard randomly indicated to shift into parking gear, which I did, and then the car turned off on me right before at the top of a downhill. I couldn't shift into neutral and couldn't get the car to turn back on. There I was in the hot weather with a car in the middle of the road right off of the freeway exit without a clue as to what happened. I had to get towed and the vehicle is now at the dealer; they won't be able to take a look at it until 5 days after the occurrence.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2022

This car is totally unsafe and is going to cause serious injury. When initially trying to accelerate this car jerks uncontrollably and doesn’t go. It stalls something serious then all of a sudden propels itself forward into traffic!!! making other ppl swerve around me frantically. I can’t come to a complete stop at a stop sign then go when it’s my turn without the car talking a big stalling leap of death. Not to mention when coming to a stop it often cuts off due to something being wrong with the oil system causing it to burn too much oil. I’ve never had a car that I had to put oil in continuously even though my oil changes (via Chrysler) are on time. Horrible thing is Chrysler says they know the car does this but won’t fix it!!! this lemon is going to take me out.

Unknown. When stopped or while slow down to turn out after trarrfic is clear when I put my foot on the gas it doesn’t go, like the transmission is slipping. Then after a while it allows me to put my foot on the gas and proceed driving.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2022

I own a 2015 Chrysler 200s with 27,000 miles on it and I’m currently having the transmission completely replaced due to failure. The automotive shop that is working on the vehicle tells me that the transmission fluid is completely burnt and has metal in it. There was never any warning signs that there was a condition going on until the day that the car went in the shop and the transmission light came on. I have the car at the dealership in November 2021 and all they could tell me at the time was that this particular model car tends to shift hard when I complained to them about the issues I was having. I feel like the dealership should have looked further into the matter because now I am spending $6000 to replace the transmission.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2022

We purchased our vehicle brand new in 2015 with 6 miles on it. 1. The vehicle has always shifted hard, but every time I brought it up at the dealership I was told that "the car is just learning my driving habits" here we are 10 years later and my car is still shifting hard and it still won't fall into gear like it's supposed to. 2. Within the first 6 months the airbag light came on and would throw a warning message on the display, to have it checked. Even after acknowledging that I had seen the message it would beep at me and come on almost immediately. I took it in to the dealership on 3 different occasions while it was still under the 3 year warranty. The first two times I asked about it the dealership told me that they found a water bottle stuck under the passengers seat and that it was causing the wires to not stay connected. They claimed that it fixed the problem each time. The third time I took it in I made sure there was no trash under the seat and reset the light. After a day or so the warning light came back on. This time they said they would replace the parts under the seat, but I went to pick up my vehicle the dealership seemed confused about what was supposed to have been done. Then they said it was all fixed and hustled me out the door. I've asked about the issue at least 2 more times since being out of warranty. The dealership wants me to pay nearly $2,000 to have it fixed even though they say there's a known issue. And when my son and I were hit from the side in 2022 the airbags didn't deploy and I'm guessing it has to do with that light being on still to this day.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2022

The car says service transmission while driving and automatically shuts down while still in drive you can’t put the car into any other gear and actually have to shut the car off while still in drive . The car when restarted is stuck in park . Extremely dangerous situation when traffic is directly behind you and the car just stops . Car has been taken to the nearest repair shop and I’m waiting on inspection.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2022

The vehicle is having an error and will not come out of park.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2022

Let me start by saying I was in love with my 200s but lately she been acting up. 1) I was driving on multiple occasions now when I’ll hear a chim sound(warning light with nothing laminated on the dashboard) car loses all power and shuts off completely no matter where on the freeway and surface streets 2mins later car starts up. The latest incident came a week ago when I was pulling in a drive way car shut off completely while traffic was coming almost causing a major crash (thank god nobody didn’t get hurt) other motorists got out to help push it to safety. There’s been multiple occasions while driving the car starts shaking bad as if it’s going to stall check engine light comes on. . I pull over scan for codes nothing pops up ,I then check connectors and fluids etc unscrewed the gas cap redo it ,car starts up I drive home safely (no more stalling feeling or bad shaking) mechanic run diagnostics no error codes appear . 2) airbags senor come on and off for no reason which scares the heck out of me to drive it not knowing if they’ll actually protect me or not if I need it too. It’s been almost 2 car payments since I drove it. Due to safety fears because I travel with kids 3) it’s hard to pick up speed when trying to accelerate my car is now at 99k miles and I have been going through these issues probably since 73k miles.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

I have had my 2015 Chrysler 200 for about a year now and ever since I have had it. It has acted weird. Evetime I am driving down a hill at a slow pace, I loose power as if my car just switched to neutral. It also jerks a lot when I am stopped on a hill going up and I start to go, then it will jerk like its delayed in the gears. I am very concerned for my safety. I have seen other recalls similar to this and I am hoping we can get this one on a recall as well. I have not had my car inspected yet because I cant afford it.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2021

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while attempting to drive from a complete stop, she shifted into drive (d); however, the gear shifter independently moved into neutral (n) and remained stuck. Additionally, the electronic parking brake engaged independently. The parking brake, the brake and the traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to several mechanics, who could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the cross-alignment was performed and an unknown software was reset. The vehicle then operated as needed; however, the failure recurred two years later. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2021

The car just dangerously shuts off without warning while driving in traffic. The battery is new, and all fluids are full. This is the second time, in less than a month, that this dangerous shutdown has happened. Both times being while the car is in motion. The first time this dangerous incident occurred, the car started back up. The airflow sensor, all sparks plugs & coil packs were changed & throttle body cleaned. This time, the car will not crank back up.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

My vehicle has been recalled but I’m noticing problems with my transmission when in switching gears. Sometimes it shifts into neutral, my radio shuts off periodically and my seat fills a lot thinner then the passenger seat. My air bag sensors pops on as well as the gas cap sensor and I just replaced the gas cap 2 months ago.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2021

I purchased this car a yr ago and have complained about the transmission since the beginning along with oil issues and power issues. They refused to fix it. The car downshifts and throws itself forward and it's almost caused numerous accidents. There's times the car will not go forward and when you hit the gas a little it revs and shoots forward. It's very unsafe and I can't even drive it. I'm paying for a car that's very unsafe.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2021

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and running, the gear shifter was stuck and would not shift into drive. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the mechanic reset the computer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was unavailable.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2021

When the vehicle accelerates, the gear shift is harsh and very scary to the point it feels like the car is gonna fall apart. When decelerating, the same thing a occurs. At one point the whole car shifted to the side while attempting to accelerate or decelerate. When making a turn and mainly a u-turn, the steering feels like it's harsh and feels like it will break if it was turned too far or too hard accidentally. The gear shifting/transmission does not shift very smoothly at all times. Its scary when it switches gears. Both accelerating and decelerating in the middle of the highway whether going from 60mph to 70 mph feel or 60mph going down to 40mph. I'm sure it was steering and gear shifting issue because I felt it myself. It sure could be engine problem on the top of that as well. Thank you!.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2021

My car is not shifting correctly after the recent recall for a software update. My engine light came on the very next day. The problem happens mostly on the highway as I try to accelerate. My car runs between 3500-4500 rpms on the highway unless I am going downhill. I have to keep letting off the gas in order for the car to shift. I am not entering the highway at a safe speed because my car will not go. I am afraid this is going to cause a wreck. I am not sure if this is along the same problem, but my remote start stopped working correctly at the same time. I can start it with the remote, but it will only stay on for about 10 seconds, this is also not due to being low on gas. I called the dealer about this issue but they want to charge $150 to even look at the car.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2021

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle started overheating, the transmission was slipping, and then vehicle lost motive power. There were warning no lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2021

Chrysler 200 (2015) engine shuts down with no notice. I have to literally stop, put the car in park and restart the ignition in the middle of the road to get the car moving again. Mostly when deacceleration (turning a corner/slowing down for a traffic stop, going over a bump, etc. ). The electrical system just shuts off. Notice that the temperature outside is usually warm. Seems to do better in cooler weather. The car does not get hot (temperature gauge has been tested). Oil is full and gets regular changes. It is extremely dangerous. Many times throughout this month I have almost been hit. Angry people cuss you out for stopping in the middle of traffic. Not only does it cause me high anxiety but the safety of myself and my grandchild is at risk. I am afraid to drive it but have no other means of transportation. Message displays: put gear in park, restart engine. No engine light comes on so the mechanics are unable to diagnosis issue. It has been put on the code reader but not codes appear. Midas said it was the power distribution center electrical connector (r24) . That they couldn't fix it but that it should be under warranty but it wasn't for my VIN # . Prior ( a week or so before) the airbag alert illuminated on the dash (2 different times) but went off after I adjusted my seat. At one time after I started having problems my low light beam indicator said my bulb was out but then went off and my low light still worked (not burnt out). Now my control in the middle of my dash work.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2021

There were no warning lamps but my transmission shift very hard and is very jerky. Also my parking break keeps engaging on its own. Im afraid that im going to be driving and it will engage itsself. It hasnt happened while driving yet but it had many times while setting still and in gear.

The contact stated a month later the failure recurred. The contact had the vehicle towed to his residence. The contact called and notified the local dealer of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 16v529000 (power train) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2021

Awd service required.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2021

Since purchasing my car, I’ve experienced at least 9 instances of the vehicle completely cutting off, while driving. I have one of these incidents on video. The car will cut off, tell me to “shift to park and hit the start button” while in traffic, posing severe danger to myself and other drivers. There are recalls describing this exact problem, yet my VIN number is not included in the recall. Most recently, my vehicle stalled/cut off immediately after getting an oil change. Once restarted, began running rough, shaking, and would not accelerate. I took it to a mechanic who said the problems all seemed the same as the recalled vehicles and all subsequent problems stemmed from the main power train issue. I was advised to take it to the dealer, which I did, and the dealership is trying to charge me $3,705 to fix a commonly known and previously recalled issue with this year/make/model vehicle. I’ve contacted fca and they cannot give me any answers, explanation, or assistance.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2021

I purchased my 2015 Chrysler c in 2017. I started having issues with the transmission jumping every now and then. My car is at 60k miles now and I have a sensor light on telling me service awd. I took it to have it decided and the reading I got back was p1634 and p1634 00. The power train issue has been fixed before I owned it and now from the sounds of it, may be going bad again. I smell a burning smell from time to time when driving on the highway. I'm trying to take my car in to get serviced but everyone's telling me no open recall. However I keep reading about recalls on Chrysler 200 power tranny. I have lost so much money on this car it's ridiculous! my daughter is a new d.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2021

It has done it before like 6 months after we bought it but it hasn't done it again. I thought I had turned the wrong knob so didn't really look into it much until recently. It almost got is killed. We were gettingoff an exit turning right and it died in the middle of turning. In front of the cars comingour way. . It shuts off while driving at any speed and flashes "shift to park" in order to do that you have to completely stop and shift it then turn off your car in hopes it'll start right up. . . It dont. We were on a busy over pass when it happened a few days ago. Yesterday (04/26/2021) we were by the court house and it done the same thing. Today (04/27/2021) it didn't even want to start. It idled high and acted like it was dying. I of course had to drive my children to school so it was scary.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2021

I have a 2015 Chrysler 200. After the car sits for a few hours an engine has time to cool completely down it shuts off on its own after restart and acceleration. If I start to slow down it will shut completely off and tell me to put into park. It has done it countless times on busy roadways, when I?m coming to a stop at stop signs or traffic lights. It is starting to also shut off as I am turning. Not only is it extremely dangerous and completely unsafe but it?s extremely annoying. It seems to do it more if the engine hasn?t completely ?warmed up? before I drive it. They have recalls for this exact problem on certain Chrysler 200s but apparently mine doesn?t fall under that recall and seems ridiculous that it doesn?t. Seems as though tens of thousands of the 200s are having this same issue but they pick and choose what ones are fixed. Is Chrysler waiting for families to die in car accidents before they finally fix the problem!?.
