Tl the contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving 65 mph, the contact experienced sudden engine failure without warning. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that she should have the vehicle towed to a Chrysler dealer. Fred martin superstore (3195 barber rd, barberton, OH 44203, (330) 753-4444) diagnosed that the engine rod bearing was defective. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 06v432000 (power train). The contact called the manufacturer back and was informed that the remedy for the recall had already been performed on the vehicle. They also informed the contact that because they found no defect with the vehicle, the recall repair was never performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 107,000.

Purchased the Pacifica touring awd in September/October, 2013. It was in fabulous condition. A couple of months later, I experienced my first of eight occurrences wherein the vehicle shut off without warning. Once the engine shut off, power brakes and power steering didn't function properly, likely because the engine was no longer running. Five of these eight occurrences have been within one mile of my residence. Additionally, it occurred once in a parking lot, once in an intersection, and once as I was getting onto an interstate highway. A few of the occurrences almost resulted in accidents. I was at the mercy of the other drivers in those cases. I have six grandchildren. I'm hesitant to take them on trips because I have no confidence in my Pacifica's safety and reliability. My vehicle safety complaint seems eerily similar to numerous other owner's 2007 Pacifica safety complaints. I pray Chrysler will investigate this issue to determine what is causing the engine failure before a precious life is lost. Chrysler, please identify the cause and notify the owners of the fix soonest. It makes no sense to continue neglecting these safety claims. I'm certain $$$ is causing your hesitation to investigate; however, it will seem like pennies compared with the cost you will undoubtedly pay due to negligence in the event of injury or fatality. Thanks in advance for hearing my concern, diagnosing the problem, identifying the solution, and quickly implementing your plan to repair the affected vehicles. Safety has a price, but human life is priceless.

After starting the vehicle and engaging the transmission into reverse the vehicle engine failed. I then turned off the ignition and returned the vehicle to the park position. At this point I decided to try it again, only this time without the ac and stereo on. The vehicle started right up just fine and I let it idle for about 1-1. 5 minutes to let the idle stabilize. (it was not real stable). I then put the transmission back into reverse and backed up maybe 2 ft and the engine failed again. (now I am in the road) I repeated my second attempt and let it idle 2-3 minutes, put it into reverse and it was shaky but stayed running and it drove fine after for several days. About a week later my wife told me that this problem had happen to her 2-3 times over a couple days time. I have had it happen 2 additional times and today I was having to put the vehicle into neutral when stopped or idling to keep the engine running for a short 20 mile drive home from work. I have read many forums as we consumers seem to be doing much more of, and this is not a new problem. It needs to be fixed. Budget cuts, sequestrations and furloughs are making things very tight for a lot of us out here and we depend on good quality transportation to get to the jobs we thankfully still have so that we can do our part to contribute the the economic recovery of this great nation. Do the right thing Chrysler!.
Engine failed while on the interstate. Engine was properly maintained. Oil changes every 3-5000 miles and had a bearing break and engine totaled before 80,000 miles.

We purchased our 2005 Chrysler Pacifica on June 24, 2005: 10 stalling episodes to date. 1st & 2nd stalling events occurred within 6 weeks of purchase; both involving slow-speed left-hand turns. Car completely stalled - no ability to steer. Once in park, pac able to start. Took car back to dealer where, after 1 day's worth of investigation, technicians said they could not replicate problem & since no diagnostic codes appeared, there was nothing to fix. I googled "Chrysler Pacifica stalls" & found 100s of similar complaints for both 2004 & 2005 models. I printed examples & headed to dealer. After confronting technicians with the complaints they admitted they had seen several other pacs for the same stalling problem. In fact, technicians had replaced iac motor on other pacs they had serviced for stalling problem - same remedy suggested in googled complaints but not offered to me. Dealership replaced iac motor for free. Due to general concern about apparent dangerous nature of all pacs & outrage over deceptive service at dealer, I complained to Chrysler corp. Got a feeble corporate response about "my dissatisfaction with my service needs. " Chrysler never even mentioned stalling problem. Iac fix seemed to work until 1. 5 months ago when pac stalled again. I decided it was time to respond to the recall involving the pcm reprogramming & headed back to dealer. 3 weeks after pcm fix, car is stalling every time I slow down, whether turning or not. Pac is currently at dealer. Technicians refuse to deal with this as a mechanical problem with pac model - obviously given no direction from Chrysler corp to do so. Dealer says we are responsible for paying for anything they do to fix problem - totally absurd since nothing they have done to date has fixed problem. Bottom line: pac models are experiencing systematic engine failures=totally unsafe cars. Hope NHTSA investigates problem & forces Chrysler to offer customers real solutions to potentially fatal flaw.
: the contact stated while driving 30 mph on normal road conditions, the front passenger side door opened. The door was locked but the door light that signaled the door was open was illuminated. This was the first incident with the vehicle, which also have had an engine that stalled. The engine failure light alerted the contact for the engine problem. The abs light also alerted the contact for the brakes failure; the sensors were replaced. The dealership had honored the extended warranty but the contact was very upset because of the six times the vehicle had to be taken to the dealership.
