On February 20th, 2017 I took my car in for an oil change and the tech pulled me in the shop to show me that my subframe is rusted.

Tremendous amount of rust on frame and multiple open holes allowing you to see through the frame were discovered when a local service center replaced the front struts . Shocked that previous visit to a Chrysler dealer to replace an alternator made no mention of the condition of the frame.
Dealer is saying the engine cradle is rusting out and that it needs to be replaced. There is almost no rust on the vehicle yet this important part of the frame is rusting out?.
We have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica touring edition with 69005 miles. Beautiful automobile, we store it in the winter, no rust anywhere on the body. We brought it in to the dealer for an oil change and nys inspection. The dealer informed us that the front and rear cradle of the frame had rusted and deteriorated so badly that the vehicle would not pass nys inspection and was unsafe to drive. The cost to repair was $4626. 00. I found a service bulletin that stated that Chrysler was extending the warranty on the Pacifica to vehicles in the canadian market and salt belt states to 150,000 miles but for reasons that they would not explain, my vehicle was covered even though I live in upstate NY, an obvious salt belt state. This is clearly a latent defect in this model rendering the vehicle unsafe and should be recalled and repaired by Chrysler.
The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the subframe was rusted. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic who diagnosed that the subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
I took my vehicle in for new tires and an alignment and was told by the mechanic that I have rust rot in the subframe. Which now I know is called cradle rot. I contacted Chrysler and they said there was nothing they would do.
At the service dealer today I was told that my engine carriage frame is so rusted that it is not safe to drive. The sides are also severely rusted. I bought this car new and have serviced it every 3000 miles. I go through the car wash in the winter alot. I learned that Chrysler was aware of this problem early on. Why was I not nofitied of this, so my car could have been under coated ( which should have been done as soon as the problem was noticed) and I could still be driving it. I am 71 and on ss, and planned on this being my last car. Now, it can't be fixed and I couldn't with a clear conscience trade or sell it. Wouldn't want a family with kids in the car, going down the road and have the engine fall out. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed before someone is killed. My car looks like brand new inside and out. I meticulously took care of it. At 153,000 miles, I think it is just getting broke in, only to find that that underside is broke, rusted, done! please do something. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact observed a loud abnormal noise from the front end of the vehicle. The contact observed under the vehicle that the subframe was rusted along the engine cradle. The contact stated that he was an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 234,000.
My subframe is totally rusted out. Is very dangerous. Ten year old car, 100,000 miles. Is very big risk driving it with my kids in ithe car. Thank you.
I brought my cart to my mechanic for a routine service and when my mechanic put it on the lift, he called us shortly after, and wanted us to come in to see the vehicle on the lift. . The car's frame was rusting through on both the front and back. He told us it was unsafe to drive and that he saw this on other Pacifica's th he serviced. He stated he never saw this occur on other brands now we have no vehicle to drive. The car is in good condition and has about 85,000 miles. If this car was driven on the highway, as we planned for the holiday weekend (July 4) without bringing it ti a mechanic, we could have been killed. How does safety of passengers get compromised when it appears that 7000 cars were produced and hundreds of complaints with this specific problerm on this model have been filed!.
I have a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica with 70,000 miles. Was inspecting the exhaust system around the muffler and happened to notice some excessive rust on the sub frame and upon further looking I went to the front of the vehicle and noticed the motor cradle and where the motor cradle connects with the passenger side of the sub frame there were enormous amount of decay and corrosion on the motor cradle and splitting in the sub frame. I believe that there was a serious over look and neglect in not treating the sub frame with some sort of anti corrosive at time of assembly at the factory by Chrysler. The car was manufactured on September 2005.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact noticed that the subframe was rusted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the subframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 157,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a mechanic for an oil change and was informed that the subframe was badly rusted. The vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.
The engine frame is rusting out. The rest of the frame is completely fine, but now I need to have the engine cradle completely replaced.
The engine mounts have broken, and been replaced, and broke again. The floorboard, has rusted through on the drivers side, and the frame is rusting out. The suspension is breaking and has now blow out 2 tires. The electrical panel /dash, doesn't work and causes other problems. I don't live by salt water and have been informed that this is not a new problem with this make/model. Gas fumes come up through the floorboard, and I have been dealing with this since I took it off of the dealership. I am a single mom of 3,and am not finding help from anyone. Can you please help me?.
After having my oil change mechanic show me the frame on my Pacifica 4 large holes in engine mount frame from rust.
Yesterday had new tires put on the car and the mechanic said, I need you to come see this. I looked and saw my frame rusting through. There was a report on tv on this 2 years ago. Seeing hundreds of complaints on line about this exact same problem! what will it take for a recall? when is this government organization going to care? isn't that what this is set up for? this isn't just a hand full of complaints.
My car started making loud noises when I hit a pot hole. I took it to my mechanic he said the frame is rusting trough.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the a frame rusted and rotted out on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. While parked, the contact smelled fuel coming from the vehicle. The contact also stated that there was an odd smell coming from the vehicle that was not fuel related. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that the frame was rusted out and needed to be replaced. The power steering was leaking and the contact was informed that the fuel pump may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
After encountering multiple problems involving front suspension, motor mounts, power steering components and uneven tire wear the dealer informed us the sub frame assembly was rusted through and needed to be replaced. This assembly has steering and suspension mounted to it, as well as serves as the cradle for the engine. After contacting the manufacturer they stated this vehicle was not included in the recall or extended warranty offered by Chrysler and they would provide no further assistance.
While traveling I had some alignment issues with my car, I brought it to a Chrysler dealership service area to make certain the car was safe to drive home to connecticut. While I was told it will be fine to make it home, my subframe will need to be replaced due to rust. As I researched this, I see that this has been an issue with the Pacifica 2004-2006 models. Below are the statements from service: 1. Sub-frame badly rusted reported 12/31/2015 by Chrysler service easton, MD 2. Front sub-frame nearly broken 01/02/2016 by town fair tire, hamden, CT.
On 12/4/15 we took our 2006 Chrysler Pacifica for an oil change. When we picked up the vehicle the mechanic at the dealership explained to us that the subframe that holds the engine of the vehicle in place is rusted and will not pass annual PA inspection without being replaced. We were quoted an amount of $2,009. 28 for just the parts to replace the rusted subframe. This did not include any labor. The vehicle only has 73,000 miles on it and has been garage kept since the day it was bought brand new in 2006. After some extensive research, this seems to be a common problem in 2004-2008 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles. I contacted Chrysler concerning this issue due to the safety concern this poses for myself and my family as well as the fact that this should not be happening to a vehicle that is less than 10 years old and garage kept. The contact at chrysle acknowledged that this is a problem, but that our vehicle was not covered under a warranty that Chrysler issued for 2004-2005 Pacificas. I find it completely irresposible of Chrysler to deny fixing this issue when they are well aware that they did not provide enough coating of this part while manufacturing this vehicle. I have a picture of the damage but have been unable to attach it to this form. If we attempt to fix the issue with the vehicle, we will be putting more money into the vehicle than what it is worth and if we try to trade in the vehicle, we will not be given the value of the vehicle due to the required costly repair to pass inspection. Please do something about this as Chrysler needs to be held responsible for their failure to manufacture a safe vehicle.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in for inspection it was discovered that the sub frame had rusted and corroded and the was deemed unsafe to drive. The cause of the failure was not determined and the manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 120,000. Jft.
I took my vehicle in for a routine oil change and I was informed that my subframe is completely rusted and the engine is on the verge of falling out the vehicle. Mechanic stated that this is a very common issue with this particular vehicle. The mechanic told me that the vehicle is no longer safe to drive and the cost of this repair will be upwards of $3000.
Took my car in for brakes and mechanic sent me pictures of car frame rusted through I had to have the whole frame replaced because it was unsafe to drive . I don't have a printer so I can't print out pictures to send you.
Vehicle subframe severely rusted and corroded, informed unsafe to drive, many other owners with this issue. Motor could fall out and no help at all from Chrysler.
Original owner of a 2006 Pacifica (85000 miles). . . On October 16, 2015, I drove the vehicle to the Chrysler dealer where it was purchased and has been regularly maintained for a routine scheduled oil change and multi-point inspection (no check engine light message triggered the visit. ) in the process of returning me the keys and directing me to the cashier, the service advisor mentioned that a part known as a "front cross member" would need to be replaced due to rust/corrosion spotted on the inspection with estimated cost of repair at $1862 for the part and $644 for the labor (estimated time to complete the repair at 5. 6 hours). The service advisor made mention that failure to do the repair could result in the engine falling out. Upon returning home, I googled "pacifica frame rust" and discovered this problem is widespread. I learned there is a class-action lawsuit in ohio involving this issue with motions and rulings relatively fresh with a judge named "donald c. Nugent" hearing the case with the first name of plaintiff named being "holland et al" and the defendant in the suit being named "fca" as in fiat Chrysler. From information I have gathered online, I have discovered that engine-cradle rot is a serious problem for the Chrysler Pacifica. Chrysler admits they didn't apply enough coating to the engine's sub-frame during assembly, but thus far has only offered to cover under warranty only a very small portion of the vehicles (approx 7000 in a November 9, 2010 technical service bulletin). Later, on March 16, 2012, fiatchrysler issued a new technical service bulletin superceding the previous TSB stating the engine cradle defect and extended warranty applied only to 2004-05 Pacificas in canada and salt belt states manufactured in a six week window in 2004. This means approx 300000 Pacificas are dangerous and in need of repair mine included.
Front sub frame rust through. Was told frame could crack or break causing loss of control of car. Needs $3,100. 00 repair at Chrysler dealer to make safe. .
Took to mechanic to replace links in wheels. Mechanic informed me of the rusted through subframe. I don't wanna be driving down the road then all the sudden my engine falls out. Only transportation I have.
Upon regular maintenance, the auto mechanic discovered my 2006 Pacifica engine cradle frame is totally rusted out. He advised me the cost of repair is so high that it is not worth to repair. He further required me to acknowledge that my car is not safe to drive. This is very unusual to have a subframe rusted though the whole metal frame since the car was always kept in maryland, we hardly have any snow in the last 10 years. From the search on the internet, it turns out that this subframe problem affected was common in many Pacifica on the road. We felt fortunate that the engine has not dropped on the ground and lead to a fatal crash. Why there is not recall on these Pacificas .
My 2006 Pacifica cradle, carrage, rockers, or whatever the correct name. . . Underneath is rotted out. I got new tires for the vehicle and when I went to sears auto center to have them installed is when the news was broken to me about the issue. They told me that the compartment holding the engine is rusting out bad and could result in the motor falling out. It was so bad that they didn't align the tires because they didn't want to be held responsible. I drove the vehicle back to the dealer I purchased the vehicle and explained the issue. Their response was this is a buy here pay here and the vehicle was as is no warranty so their not responsible. Wow. . . . Was my response. . . . So I followed up by calling the dealer about the issue. . . But they don't have a recall on the vehicle frame issue for 2006 but only for certain vehicles in 2005. . . . Now if that ain't just blow my mind. . . Only thing I could do was file a complaint and hope enough people do too for it to be a chance for recall. . . Now I don't think that's fair that I done purchased this vehicle as a family vehical with a rusted frame and there's nothing that's being done to fix this issue. This is a $3000 fix out of pocket which is not fair.
Took our 2004 Pacifica in today for an alignment to fix the shaking when the car is driven on the highway and was told that an alignment would be a waste of money due to the rusted out frame under the car. Hadn't heard a single word about this issue until today. We've had this car since 2005, bought with 12, 000 miles on it and now it has 85, 000. Still not bad for a car that is 11 years old and the body and interior are in very good shape. Now what to do?!!! thank you firestone for being honest and not charging us for your time. (can I mention that the car has been in for repairs about a year ago for another issue to a Chrysler dealership and not a word was spoken about this!!!) the engine mounts, k-frame is badly rusted to the point the suspension is out of alignment and cannot be adjusted. The car is unsafe to drive.
