Side/rear Glass Problems of Chrysler Pt Cruiser

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the rear passenger side quarter glass became separated from the vehicle. The NHTSA has previously issued recall campaign #07v149000 regarding the quarter glass on certain Pt Cruisers separating from the vehicle. Recently, one of the quarter windows on my Pt Cruiser would leak while during a rain or going through the car wash. While I had the vehicle at a Chrysler dealership body shop for some minor paint work, I had them look at the window leak. They removed the window and discovered that (2) of the (5) mounting studs that secure the glass to the vehicle body were pulling loose from the molding around the window. The glass had to be replaced which cost me $350. I had contacted Chrysler corporation customer assistance for possible reimbursement for this expense. Chrysler corporation denied my request for reimbursement stating that my vehicle was not covered under the recall. As the owner and operator of the vehicle, and this window being a non-movable piece of glass, there is nothing that I can do during the normal operation of the vehicle that would cause the glass mounts to fail. The only other way that the mounts can fail is from a defective design or installation issue. My vehicle was made just one month outside of the recall period. How can Chrysler corporation be so sure that all of the defective windows were removed from their assembly plants, and did not make it onto my vehicle? if the glass separates from the vehicle, it could cause serious damage to another vehicle or injury to a pedestrian. I maintain that Chrysler corporation should expand the existing recall and replace possible defective quarter windows on other Pt Cruisers. Chrysler corporation won't release to me information on how they changed the window design or installation process of the quarter windows, stating, ". . . The information you are is seeking is either unavailable considered proprietary; therefore, we are unable to assist this customer with their request. ".

The front passenger window of my 2006 Pt Cruiser spontaneously (?) exploded, sending shattered glass into my car while I was driving through a residential neighborhood at about 25 miles per hour on a very temperate night. I had just stopped at a stop sign, and was getting back up to normal speed. There was only one loud bang, and I heard no other sounds. There were no cars beside me, and I did not see any activity out that side of the car that would account for a pebble being thrown, or a bb gun being shot, etc. , although it was dark out. In fact, I believe I was driving past a vacant lot. The inside temperature of the car and outside temperature were about the same, at about 65-70 degrees. I did not find any foreign objects while cleaning the glass out of my car. Only a few pieces of shattered glass were left remaining around the edges of my window, but otherwise the window was completely gone. Sharp pieces of glass were mostly in the floorboard and front seat of my car, although some did fly into the back floorboard. There were a few pieces of glass in my cup holders in the center console, and at least one piece made it over to the driver's side. My arm was cut very superficially in one place.

With no warning and no apparent cause, the rear driver side quarter window detached from the car while driving on the interstate. Since I was unaware of what exactly happened at the time (I just heard a noise and felt some wind) I did not stop and am unaware of what if any property damage may have occurred to other cars as a result. Closer examination shows that the glass separated from the bolts that held it to the car. It looks like there is a recall for this problem on later Pt Cruiser models (07v149000), but that does not apply to 2002 models.

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact was traveling 70 mph when the rear passenger side quarter glass window came out. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and found there was a recall on the 2005-2006 model year, but not on his model year, even though the vehicle was manufactured in 2006. The recall campaign number was 07v149000 and it was for visibility, because the rear quarter glass window can come loose from the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact heard a slight popping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. She looked back and noticed that the rear passenger side window had disconnected itself from the frame. The window was hanging outside of the vehicle. She drove home and took the vehicle to the dealer the following day. The dealer stated that they could replace the window. The contact found recalls for her vehicle, including NHTSA campaign id number 07v149000 (visibility:glass, side/rear) for the same failure she was experiencing. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was excluded from the recall. The contact believes that if the failures are identical, the vehicle should be repaired according to the recall. The VIN was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 80,000.

Rear quarter window flew off of car. Passenger quarter window did the same thing in may08. Chrysler is saying there is no recall for the month my car was made.

The fixed rear quarter glass on my 2004 Chrysler Pt Cruiser fell out. No damage was done to property or a person. There is a safety recall, g01, for 2005 and 2006 Pt Cruisers. Chrysler refuses to repair the defect. The adhesive failed.

2005 Pt Cruiser rear quarter glass flew out of car and across 2 lanes of traffic. No one was hurt. I called Chrysler to check recall and they said my VIN was not covered however other 2005's are recall 07v149000.

Quarter window on 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser fell out while driving. Just like a description on 2005 - 2006 cruiser recall for this exact window matched. This was not taken care of by Chrysler and had to be paid out of pocket.

2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser window shattered while driving. Consumer states that the when the glass shattered most of it went onto the highway. Mechanic determined that the replacement would be an out of pocket expense. The consumer discovered a recall had been issued, however the consumers vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. The consumer was also told the mileage on her vehicle was a factor as well.

The dealer that refused to honor the recall was the same dealer that tinted the windows on the vehicle when it was purchased. The manufacturer stated that they would replace the window; however, the contact has to pay for the window repair because of the tinting. I contacted daimler Chrysler to see about assistance because they recalled 2005 / 2006 Pt Cruisers for this very problem. They told me sorry vehicle is out of warranty. Well of course it is, but gosh are window's supposed to fly off the car??? no!!!!! just fix it.

Drivign down the freeway my rear passenger side stationary window (wedge window) was sucked off the car. Upon inspection it appears this window was originally glue in. While reading of this problem online from other owners I have noticed a trend it seems to happen a lot with this particular window on the passenger side for the car. Why has this not been addressed. I was traveling down the freeway in moving traffic being followed by cars. This could have created a sever problem. Luckily no one was hit by the flying window.
