The windshield on this vehicle cracked for no apparent reason. The crack started at the bottom, just left of center. The crack ran up the windshield for about 3 inches, then turned 90 degrees to the right. Over the course of the next few weeks, the crack ran all the way to the right a-pillar. It bears mentioning that the crack started while the vehicle was in my driveway. The car hadn't even been started yet. I've seen many mentions on-line of Pt Cruiser's with problems identical to mine, and my neighbor's pt also has this same crack. When I took it to the Chrysler dealer, they denied any knowledge of an issue with pt windshields, and denied my repair request under warranty, even though the vehicle was still covered by Chrysler's 36/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty. When I called Chrysler customer care, they agreed, after a great deal of wrangling, to fix my windshield if I paid a $100. 00 deductable. I did, reluctantly, because here in texas, a vehicle will not pass a safety inspection with a cracked windshield. It's obvious that Chrysler has an ongoing safety issue with the Pt Cruiser windshields. It also seems obvious that Chrysler has their head buried in the sand. Chrysler needs to be forced to deal with the Pt Cruiser windshield issue in a proper manner, before it causes injury or worse.

After purchasing my 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser 4 years ago within the past 2 months my dashboard has started to crack. It began w/ the air vent @ the windshield and not even 2 months later it has reached to the edge of the dash closer to the driver. I have noticed that there has been plenty of same issues regarding this same issue.

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact had 3-d crystal angel stickers on the corner panel of her windshield for decorative purposes. She received a recall notice from the manufacturer for the corner panel windshield, stating that it needed to be replaced. She took her vehicle to the dealer and they stated that due to the 3-d angel stickers on her glass, they could not perform the recall repair. The contact believes that it is dangerous to not have a working windshield, and the dealer should follow through with their recall repair regardless of the stickers. The VIN and recall number were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 68,000.

Stress crack in windshield. Begans below the seal, middle of windshield. Chrysler states that at 35,000 miles my car is not under warranty. Service men took pictures and said I might get a merit on warranty. Glass is only covered for 12,00 miles. Though the service men did say that it was indeed a stress crack, no signs of impact. I know nothing has hit my windshield, or I would have taken this up with csaa. This is a safety issue. Chrysler had to recall 2006 quarter panels due to this as well. I have a 2006 limited.

Stress cracks from top and bottom of windshield.
1) driving on interstate approx 600 miles on vehicle 2) windshield cracked approx 6 in left of center, beginning at bottom of windshield, up four to five inches vertical, then branched left and right horizontal approx 3 inches. Crack continues to lengthen horizontally in both directions. 3) dealer stated not responsible, caused by road hazard, however I disagree with this.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. After rainy weather conditions, water enters the vehicle and causes severe leakage on the floor and flooding of the fuse box. The dealer stated that the seam underneath the driver side windshield was not welded properly, allowing fluids to leak into the vehicle, in which they attempted to use the adhesive/rtv/black to repair the seam. This was done several times, but the vehicle has yet to be properly repaired. A formal complaint with the manufacturer. The powertrain was unknown. The failure mileage was 9,000 and current mileage was 51,163.
