(jcc add veh speed) tl the contact owned a 2006 Chrysler Sebring sedan. While driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the brakes failed to respond. The vehicle accelerated independently and the steering wheel failed to turn left or right. The failure occurred without warning. The contact could not stop the vehicle and crashed into the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and later impounded. The contact sustained a neck injury, internal stomach injury, and a migraine headache due to hitting the head on the steering wheel. Medical attention was required. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that there were no open recalls. The failure mileage was 177,000.
