1 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 1998 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/11/2006

Began hearing a light vibration in the seats of my vehicle as I was driving. I drove approx. 90 miles on it when part of the tire tread of my driver's side rear wheel began peeling off. It is a cooper cobra 91t p215/55r16 m45 radial gt that I purchased approx. At most 12,000 miles ago. I bought these two rear tires for my 1998 Chrysler Sebring convertible. My front tires I purchased about 3 months ago but got a different brand. I pulled over on the side of the road as soon as it happened and changed the tire with my minitature spare tire. This all happened today. . . . . No accidents/no injuries. . . The tire is still inflated. . It is just missing the outer and a couple of inner layers of thread with numerous wires protracting out. The area effected is approx. 10 inches long. . .

2 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2001 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 11/09/2005

I bought a used car from hyannis Honda, west main st. , hyannis, MA the last week in may 2005. Recently, I got a nail in my back rear tire. I took the vehicle to cape and island tire in falmouth, MA. After examining the tire, the manager said that they could fix the tire but it would be useless because all four of my tires would never pass the state inspection because my tires were to bald. After paying for 2 new rear tires($250), I took the car back to hyannis Honda. The sales manager agreed that the tires were defective and they would replace the front 2 tire for free. A week later, after returning for a trip to CA at 10:30 p. M. , the front tire was flat because hyannis Honda didn't seal the tire properly and the battery was dead. The next day I returned to hyannis Honda who agreed to fix the tire but said that my battery didn't have enough charge to start the car in the winter. I could purchase a new battery for $110. I discussed my situation with brian perry in hyannis, a certified inspection representative. He said that if he inspects a car and notices that the tires are unsafe, even if they are barely within state guidelines, he would warn the driver of the potential danger of driving on unsafe tire especially during the winter months. I really feel as though hyannis Honda definitely has a "conflict of interest" in being able to inspect their own used car. The car they sold me might have passed the tire requirements but they should have warned me that I was riding on almost bald tire and that the battery was so old that it wouldn't work in the winter. I feel that their unethical behavior endangered my life and the lives of my family. I know the old adage"buyer beware" but this is terrible behavior from a reputable Honda dealership.

7 Tire Tread/belt problem of the 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 07/15/2002

My wife and I were driving in southern missouri from memphis, TN. We were on I-57 (I think that's the road number we were on at the time). We had a blow-out in which the tire body (the tread of the tire) separated from the rest of the tire. I recall seeing the intact (or at least apparently intact) tread of the tire rolling into the median of the highway, while I was trying to keep control of the car and avoid an accident with other traffic or even having the car roll over. The result was that the tire was flat, my wife and I were stranded on the side of the road miles from our home in memphis, TN and we had to replace both the tire and the wheel, which had worn down seriously since the tire was no longer present. We had to call roadside assistance to change the tire because when I had the tires rotated on the car, an air-wrench was used and the lug nuts were too tight for me to remove. Upon our return home, we ordered a new wheel and purchased a new tire when the wheel came in. The total out of pocket cost was approximately $1,100 (if this goes any further, I will supply details, but the wheel cost approximately $775 and the replacement tire was around $300).
