1 Starter problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2021

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags) and the vehicle was repaired with a new ignition switch and key fobs as per the recall. The contact stated that after the recall was serviced, the vehicle began having starter issues with the vehicle not turning on and requiring jump starts. The contact had the vehicle diagnosed by three different dealers however, the mechanics could not replicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an appointment with the greenway Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram (9051 e colonial dr, orlando, FL 32817) for the vehicle to be diagnosed. The dealer speculated that the failure was caused by the tipm. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.

2 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2018

Vehicle failed to start while parked in our driveway. Had battery, starter, alternator relays tested and no problems found. Had vehicle towed to dealer, who just informed me that ignition module kit & key fobs must be replaced in order to start engine, cost $902. 00 + tax. We had this same problem in Aug. 2012, and again in June 2015 we had recall repair done. This will be the third tignition module & set of keys. Apparently Chryslers permanent solution lasts 3 years.

3 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2017

For the last five years we have been dealing with a mysterious electrical issue. There are hundreds of complaints online of the same issue. The van will be fine and you get in to start it and when turning the key it will not start. Full charge, full battery. Starter is fine - everything checks out fine. With a jump it will usually start. Sometimes it will start on it's own if you wait a little while. People on boards have stated replacing dozens of things - to then have the same issue a couple days later. We are use to having to jump our vehicle about 1 out of 20 times. We have taken it to multiple mechanics and had multiple things checked and replaced. An example of a board with many others experiencing the same thing can be found here: https://forums. Edmunds. Com/discussion/12634/Chrysler/town-and-country/2008-t-c-ignition-switch-problem/p1 in addition - sometimes you will be driving and everything starts going off (wipers, lights, flashers, horn, entire dash lights up, etc - no resolve). This can happen while stationary or driving.

4 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2017

When driving for a short trip or longer, when shopping or not in use, the car will not start on 1st, 2nd or 5th try. Replaced battery, starter 4 months ago. This occurs with no warning and no special time, it can happen now, a week from now and months-from now. I believe it's the ignition switch. I bought the car used in 2017 and this has been happing since. If you can give me some guidance on this and help me fix it or sell it. Hopefully there is a call on this.

5 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

Electrical system - tipm: starter fuse relay is malfunctioning causing the starter to intermediately not work. Problems when it malfunctions: the starter cranks but won't start. Other times the starter will start to crank and the tipm sends a message to the starter causing it to short circuit. This has been going on off and on since 5/15/2017.

6 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. On several occasions, the vehicle became difficult to start. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the repair failed to remedy the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 31,444.

7 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2016

The incidents below are related to the tipm. 11-22-13, 80000 miles, I have video. (I'm guessing on mileage. ) in my garage. I hit my unlock button on my fob. I do not have a starter, but my van began running, the lights, wipers & horn came on, the doors locked. I manually unlocked the door. Entering the vehicle, I tried to turn on/off the van, wipers & lights to no avail. After 1/2 hour, it stopped. I started the car. It was working. 3-17-15, 100000 miles (I'm guessing on mileage. ) in the parking lot, I tried to start my van. No response. Figured my battery died. As soon as we started a jump, van's horn started blaring, wipers, lights & motor began. Could not turn anything on/off with my key. We removed/replaced a fuse, which stopped the horn, wipers, etc. I drove home. 1-28-16, 122487 miles I left work, hit my fob's unlock button, the wipers started going, etc. (the horn's had burned out from a previous incident). I drove 4 miles. The van stalled dangerously in traffic. I was able to pull over. After 5 mins, the wipers stopped. I drove it home. The engine light came on. I made it home. Next morning, while driving, the washer fluid started shooting! I barely got the van pulled over before it stalled. I couldn't stop the wipers. It started again. I drove to about 2 miles from the dealership before it died - the wipers were still going. My tow bill was $77. When I tell service the symptoms, she said, "do you have a town and country?" I had the ignition module (recall) replaced. I went home. 2-3-16, 122600 miles driving to work. Wipers begin, wiper fluid shooting out again! 5 days prior, they said it was a recall for the ignition module. Today, it has nothing to do with the ignition module replacement. I must pay $966 to get a new tipm if I want to be safe. It is not covered under recall or warranty. I called Chrysler customer service. They said the same.

8 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the wireless key malfunctioned. When the contact placed the key into the ignition, it would not start. The contact needed to activate the wireless starter using both keys. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect.

9 Starter problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

The car didnt start. I have had the starter abd battery replced within the past year. Each have been tested multiple time because this isnt and isolated incident. I go to turn the car on I have hed the fobik replaced but the problem still exists. The car eventually started after an hour.

10 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2014

Starting in Dec. 2014 my vehicle would not start, it just clicked and clicked but would not start. The dealer said the wire harness needed replaced but they only spliced the cable and replaced the battery terminals which did not fix the problem and later both cables spliced melted. The starter had to be replaced but still had the starting problem, start sometimes or would click, click, click however many times until it started. It has been into the dealer 4 times and still going back again after replacing the ignition switch and finally putting in a new harness August 17, 2015, had it back one day and 35 clicks later it started; will be taking back to the dealer next week to continue searching for why it keeps doing this. I fear that it will just turn off and stop in the street again as it did Aug. 5, 2015, that was so scary! I have seen forums online that has person after person complaining of the same problem. That is why I decided to write a compliant here. Before all of this at the dealer it would not start so put in a new battery but it did not fix the problem. Intermittent problems make it so hard to know when it will happen or not.

11 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

The vehicle would not start. All other electrical systems worked. The only way to start the van was to turn the key on and off rapidly several times and then it would start. We took the van to the dealer and they replaced the starter. The van worked for a few days and then it would not start. We took the van back to the dealer but they can't fix the problem.

12 Starter problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2013

Have had an ongoing problem with car not starting when key is put into ignition. Have to keep trying key until car finally starts. No click, nothing. Took it to dealership. Have had the starter replaced, keys reprogrammed and still continued with the same problem off and on. On this last visit, 6/23/2014, I was told it was electrical system. . . . . . . . . And for the first time, did not have to pay anything for the repair. What about all the other costs I incurred. . . . . And the problem continued. Is this part of a recall???? shouldn't I be reimbursed for all the other repairs and the problem not taken care of?????.

13 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2012

Van was parked went out to run to store would not start. Had no power to anything, no windows, no radio, no instrument panel, gages don't come on when key is on. Had bettery tested was fine. Contacted dealer they had no idea. Got van to start with remote starter but when I put key the key in and put to on van shuts off and refuses to start. Called Chrysler they had no clue and referred me back to the dealer. Prior to this the van was running fine. Have only owned it 4 months. Seen other complaints about electrical issues and seems to be ongoing. You would think that Chrysler would do a recall on the electrical system but who am I. This is the first Chrysler that I have owned and has put a bad taste in my mouth about owning another since they have had numerious complaints and fail to resolve the issue nor does the dealer want to so the next step is contacting the better business bureau and the attorney general to investigate.

14 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and had to be jumpstarted. The failure recurred multiple times intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The starter was replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system); however, the part was unavailable to perform the repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

15 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2011

Description of the complaint: my 2008 Chrysler town and country, , just stopped working last night. Drove it around all day and it was fine. Went in to work, and when I came out that night to go home, the lights were all working, and the power doors and windows worked. However, the radio stopped working, the power windows no longer work, and the car will not start. It will not try to turn over. You can turn the key and nothing happens. The starter does not click, the motor doesn't do anything at all. Since we can't put it in gear due to the security lockout, we have towed it to a repair shop. This is a major issue considering it is the only vehicle my family has, and now we have no way to get our kids to the doctor or to school. They said it was a fuse box which has to bee ordered but will take a while since there has been a shortage of these items. They said the dealers were out, probably because of a manufactures defect. They said there was not a recall as of yet.

16 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

1. There are times when right after shutting the vehicle off and coming back to the car several minutes later, it will not start. The key turns but there is no power. I have replaced altenator, and battery and starter. The problem appears to be in the ignition. 2. I have replaced the front wheel bearings at 80,000miles ,also in the 3 years of owning this vehicle I have had to replace front brakesand rotars 2 times and rear brakes once. 3. Oil seems to "disappear" usually 2 quarts in a matter of 1000 or less miles. This vehicle is the most unsafe vehicle I have ever bought. I bought this vehicle on the word of Chrysler that it is a safe and trustworthy van. I have been stranded more times than I choose to count, in parking lots and what not miles away from home, with my 3 small children. It is absoluetly acinine that I have to have a "survival pack" food and water and strollers and things of that nature in my vehicle at all times in case we get stranded somewhere.

17 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2009

2008 Chrysler town and country. Consumer states problems with front and rear brakes the consumer stated the brakes have been replaced three times. The consumer stated there was a burning smell coming from the vehicle. The consumer immediately pulled over and discovered the front brakes were extremely hot and the rear brakes were smoking. The service manager indicated there was a problem with the brakes and they could not seem to fix them. Also, the air vent was not working properly, a fuse had to be replaced, as well as the starter. The driver side mirror had to be replaced, the handle on the sliding door was replaced, the driver side rear door did open properly and the bumper fell apart. The consumer stated the front and rear brakes had to be replaced for a fourth time. Updated 07/12/jb.

18 Starter problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2009

My 2008 Chrysler town and country, which I used to love, just stopped working last night. We replaced the ignition/accessory fuse because ours had blown, and it still did not resolve the issue. Since we can't put it in gear due to the security lockout, we have been unsuccessful in towing it to a repair shop. This is a major issue considering it is the only vehicle my family has, and now we have no way to get our kids to the doctor or to school.

19 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2008

We have had nothing but problems since we bought this vehicle in September 2007. First, the doors reopen by themselves - that took 8 trips to the service department before it was finally fixed in may 2008. Another issue that has not been resolved is that the starter sticks when you start the vehicle. This is an occasional problem and difficult for the service department to duplicate. Yesterday, June 8, the van completely lost power while I was driving. I lost all power steering, brakes, lights - everything! I have taken it to the dealer and they can't figure it out and daimlerchrysler has not been any help. In fact, when I called to inquire about a repurchase of the vehicle - I asked 4 times to speak to a supervisor and then the agent hung up on me when I insisted that I speak with a supervisor! I'm extremely worried about the safety of this vehicle. I will not allow my children to ride in this vehicle again.
