Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle hesitated and shuddered with the check engine warning light illuminated. The van shuts down during speeds between 35-40 mph. There are no warning or check engine lights, just the traction light comes on and the rpm gauge goes to zero. When the engine shut down there is no power steering or power brakes. Today when the van shut off I was able to shift the vehicle into neutral, and start it, but 20 seconds later it shut down again. I attempted one more time and it started. I quickly shifted into drive to avoid being struck by another vehicle. The van has 165,000 miles. This started happening about 2 weeks ago and is intermittent. My wife and kids aren't able to drive this van due to this safety issue.
Since the vehicle had been worked on for a bad intake gasket. Every time I cross any rail road crossings my check engine light illuminates and the car feels as it will stall. I am scared for my family of getting stuck, at least if anything does happen, I will have made this report for others.
This vehicle shuts down while driving - intermittently. There is some times a lurching that happens as though it's not getting gas and the rpm's struggle and then it will die. Pop it into neutral, turn the key and it starts right back. Most often this happens within 10mins of driving and at speeds anywhere from 10-35 - usually when the rpm's settling to around 1200-1800. It has happened at highway speeds and it has happened 45mins into a drive with no lurching indication at all. When it shuts down, the driver loses all power steering/brakes which makes for very dangerous situation. The dealer swapped out the ignition under recall in June 2015 - this did not fix the problem. The dealer has taken the car on several drives and has not been albe to experience the problem. Sometimes it happens 2-3 times in one drive, sometimes 2-3 times in one day for several days in a row and then it might not do it again for days or even weeks. The key is always in the on position - it never moved to acc or any other position - and this almost always happens when the car is settling into the rpm - meaning not while accelerating. Sometimes this will trigger the check engine light, sometimes it does not. Sometimes the check engine light comes on just before it dies, and other times it does not. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for why this happens but it happens often and again, is very dangerous and unsafe.
The following lights came abs, anti skid, check engine light. The engine started missing then the security indicator light came on and the alarm inside went off. I had no electrical controls. The windows wouldn't roll down, the door locks wouldn't work and then the engine shut off. The outside alarm then went off too. I had to disable the alarm by unhooking the battery cable. I had the car towed in to the dealer and they told me that the car was not communicating with the computer and they had no idea what the problem was. I then called Chrysler and checked to see if there had been a recall of any kind and sure enough my vehicle had the recall# l25. I have never received a recall notice but the gentlemen that I spoke with at Chrysler corp. Said that according to their records the win module had been replaced on my van and that my vehicle had been repaired on 2-7-2012. That never happened!! it is currently being checked out by the Chrysler tech at our local dealer. They said they are only allowed to replace the rubber gasket inside the module and if the module itself is bad I will have to pay for the module. The gentlemen I spoke with at Chrysler corporation told me that the module would be covered at no charge. This is crazy!!! my two young grandsons were in the van when all this happened. Needless to say they were terrified. This problem needs immediate attention. The government needs to get involved here. This is definitely a safety issue!!.
