Vehicle has been losing power suddenly, without warning for several months. The issue occurs at various speeds, road conditions, after various running times. When power is lost the lights fail to operate, the engine completely stops, signals dont work, steering is minimal. We have almost been in several accidents. The dealership it was taken to only provided a failing egr valve as a diagnosis with an estimate of over $700. However, research did not indicate that would resolve the sudden shut-off. I took it to a private garage after noticing the engine tended to shut down when the keys seems to be touched. I was able to replicate the issue reinforcing my assumption. The shop replaced the ignition module (as has been recalled with other town and country vehicles) and I have not had a single issue. The failing ignition module has been an issue in thousands of vehicle and this should be included.
Stalling problems: vehicle stalls out at stop lights and coming to stops in traffic on highway. The vehicle would re-started after putting in neutral. The car has stalled when slowing down and making left hand turns. This is very dangerous crossing through the intersection and not knowing if your vehicle will stall out or not. It is becoming more frequent, it happened 5 times on the one trip. I thought I purchased a really good used vehicle, and I think someone just passed on their problems to me. My husband's friend replaced the egr and it stopped doing it for a few days and then started stalling again. So I parked it for a few weeks. This past Friday I took to the mechanic. The mechanic road tested vehicle with scan tool, performed data scan. No codes present/active or stored. They performed complete fuel injection/combustion chamber fuel service. Cleaned throttle plate area. Cleaned combustion chamber. Added fuel system cleaner to fuel tank to clean fuel injectors. Replaced spark plug wires and all spark plugs, erased memory, then re-test drove with scan tool, ok at that time. They advised us that they were unable to duplicate the stalling concern at that time. On Saturday I picked up and it hesitated when going through the intersection, but otherwise seemed ok. On Sunday stalled out at the two red lights in town, but restarted ok. Then after driving on the highway for a half hour, at the exit it stalled at stop sign and did not want to restart - 3 tries before I could get it going. So displeased with this vehicle, and I am worried about driving my daughter and nieces around in it! I wish someone would just tell us what is wrong so we can get it fixed.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact contacted the dealer state line Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of kansas city (1001 w 104th st, kansas city, mo 64114, (816) 399-5457) who informed the contact that the egr valve malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure persisted and the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer who stated that the tipm and motor mount were possibly the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired a second time. The contact stated that the failure was related to the keyfob however, the failure was not covered under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
For the past two years, between the miles of 78,000 and 97,000, we have experienced multiple (over 2 dozen) events where the vehicle will lose all power. Most occasions occur as we are coming to a stop or attempting to accelerate from a stop. The dash lights usually, but not always, start to flash just prior to the event occurring. When we lose power, it is a complete loss of power. Even the radio and clock need reset after the incident. The events have happened during all types of weather, when the van is cool or has been driven for hours. Multiple dealerships have worked to fix the issue, but nothing has resolved it. O2 sensors, egr valve, abs module, a throttle body cleaning, and thermostats have been replaced. Only for the stalling to occur again. The issue has been up to the Chrysler corporate people and a dealer in cleveland actually had van for 3 weeks, but could not fix issue. At this point Chrysler has wiped their hands of the issue. The van is at dealer again now, because it stalled out 4 times last weekend. Of course they find no codes and cannot replicate the stalling so they want to do another throttle body cleaning. They have told to us to get the van towed the next time it stall without turning in back on. Easy for them to say because they are not stalled out in the middle of an intersection at 5:30pm on Thursday or another intersection the Sunday evening of new years day. I am fed up with the vehicle and being told they can do nothing for us. I do not want to put my family in harms way any longer. The shear number of complaints for this issue on these vans is alarming. How can a company continue to put a product out that places people, especially children, in such danger. The only other issue for me is that pricing of other minivans (Toyota & Honda) makes it hard to leave the Chrysler models.
Car turns off completely randomly at a low speed while driving. Turns back on. Its very dangerous. It has happened on streets as while as on the freeway. Not safe while driving, especially with children in the car. I did some research and this happens a lot with this particular vehicle. I have taking it into the dealership 3 or 4 times now. Some people say that the egr valve is the problem. I feel like this needs to be addressed before someone is injured or killed in accident due to this defect.
Follow up to complaints# 10826063 dated 02/14/2016 and 10839895 dated 3/4/2016 (2010 Chrysler t&c limited w/4. 0l engine dies unpredictably while under way). Owner called Chrysler 800# and was contacted soon after by representative from Chrysler care (customer service). She called around and found dealer in owner's proximity who had experience with problem and made appointment. Technician found no fault codes, but based on his experience replaced egr (exhaust gas recirculation) valve with one of newer and better design than what came originally from the factory. New part# 4593888-aa (valve e 140380) and 5277928 (gasket 140620). Owner drove vehicle for 500 miles with no stalling incidents, then washed, waxed and detailed it inside and out to like new condition. Owner's wife now again driving vehicle which now has 1,046 miles since repair with no further stalling incidents to date. Vehicle appears to idle smoother at stop lights, too. (the idling issue was minor, but had been with the vehicle since brand new). Vehicle now has 64,900 miles. Owner wonders if Chrysler egr valves on Town & Country engines should be recalled. This is submitted for the **possible** benefit of many others who are experiencing unexpected stalling issues. Our thanks to Chrysler care customer service department for their help. Keeping fingers crossed.
I took my van in for a simple valve change because it was using a lot of oil on 2/15/16. A week and a half later I received my van back and it stalled in front of a tractor trailer truck. Van was returned to the dealership and they claimed to repair /install new gas pump, egr valve, gaskets, crank sensors etc. I received my van back on 4/2 claiming everything was repaired. The van was no longer stalling. On 4/3 while driving on the parkway, in heavy traffic my brakes, steering wheel locked and van shut off while driving. Just missed going over the guard rail. Again took th van back to the dealership, contacted Chrysler customer service which made the dealership owner very irate. My van was in the dealership from 2/15 to June. I got the run around about we are doing everything to repair your vehicle. Guess what, it is still not repaired the van continuously stall anytime you made a hard turn. It was at the point of no return. The longer the dealership had it the worse the van got. Meanwhile all of this extra stress is starting to affect my health. I paid for a $42,000 van and even Chrysler has no idea of how to fix it. I got fed up in June and asked to have the van returned back to me. After more than 3 months they were ever so happy to return the vehicle back to me. As of now I still don't have all the receipts of exactly what was done to the van. All I know is that I would never buy another Chrysler again because of the treatment received and their uncaring attitude about the safety of the vehicle. At this point I found out that I am not the only one with this stalling issue. I feel Chrysler is aware of it and don't know how to go about correcting it. The vehicle was in the dealership at the time on 2/15 for a recall for the ignition node(r03). I don't know if the recall initiated all the action or incompetence. I have towing receipts in excess of 100 miles.
Vehicle stalled (highly dangerous, loss of power steering at high speeds): 2nd time in less than 1 week vehicle has stalled while driving in motion on highway between speeds of 25mph (1st time) and 45 mph (2nd time). No turns involved. Weather conditions were favorable with no rain or inclement weather, both were at night 7-8pm timeframe @ approx 50 degrees f outside air temp both times. Vehicle is a 2010 Chrysler tc with 4. 0 liter engine. 119,875 miles when it happened a second time. 1st time esp light came on, cannot confirm this occurred the 2nd time. No prior indications, no prior reported problems that I am aware of . Second owner, purchased car under warranty @ approx. 44,000 miles. Very hard to understand how this has not been diagnosed given the amount of complaints. I am an experienced mechanic in the aviation field, had this been an aircraft, the fleet would be grounded.
Our 2010 Chrysler t&c stated to have engine stall problems since two years ago. Basically the engine just stopped when driving (the rpm drops to 0). The driver will feel the steering wheel gets heavy and the traction warning light comes on. We did the Chrysler r03 safety recall repair (I. . E replace the win module) but it does not help at all. Especially prone to stall in the first 20 minutes of driving when temps was low, and especially when humid. We have had it checked by multiple mechanic shops but no clue was found. Multiple parts have been replaced (crankshaft position sensor, camshaft sensor, and egr valve) but nothing worked. Now for every driving we expect at least 2-3 engine stalls on the road. It is very dangerous!! I see lots of similar complaints online and Chrysler should definitely solve this!.
Out of nowhere vehicle stops running, no check engine lights, but van shuts off. This has happened a dozen or so times in the last few weeks. Took the van to local shop for diagnostic test. No codes appeared, tested fuel pump and egr value, not problems there. Mechanic unable to detect issue. I've noticed other complaints online and a recall for 2010 Chrysler t&c vans, but not my vehicle (built on 9/26/2012).
Engine stalling at slower speeds multiple times a day. Recall done twice, throttle body and egr replaced, no luck still stalls, been doing this for a year now, accident waiting to happen.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact was driving 15 mph when the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The contact was informed that the egr valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
Multiple stalling when the car is recently filled with gas or when the car is cold and during the first 5-10 miles on the road. Fortunately never at fast speeds. Recently had egr valve replaced and no new episodes. This did not show up on the computer checks of engine until just recently despite multiple stalls. Not sure whether the problem has been fixed yet since it has been intermittent. Noticed that there are multiple complaints about this vehicle stalling. If this valve is the cause of the stalls then maybe recall is indicated. I have already had the ignition switch recall repaired in 2011. Very frightening and very dangerous to be driving and have your car stall without warning.
On two occasions this year, my Chrysler Town & Country minivan stalled and lost all power after turning at an intersection. I was able to stop safely and restart car. All lights went out, all power. Each time I turned a 90degree right-hand turn, the quick left-hand lane change. First time happened in August 2010, then December 2010.
