The passenger side sliding door will not latch closed in hot weather. It continuously tries to close but doesn’t latch. This has been happening for years. Now it is starting to do this while driving when the door is not even being opened or closed. The overhead lights come on and the door ajar symbol flashes and dings. It will continue to do this for 20 minutes or more while the door continuously tries to close. I have two children and feel that this is a safety issue because the door is not secure while driving. I have not yet taken it to a dealer because I have read online that tons of people have this problem and dealers haven’t been able to find a cause.

2010 Chrysler Town & Country. Consumer writes in regards to defective sliding door not closing properly. The consumer stated the door jammed open on several occasions. The consumer had to slide a screw driver into the latch in order to release it, so the door would close.
The power doors, both sides and the rear hatch, open at random, either when vehicle is parked and turned off or while driving the vehicle. I have found my vehicle on the street with a door open, once during a snow storm and the inside was inundated with snow. I'm afraid I might find a homeless person sleeping there or a nest of skunks perhaps, or maybe stripped clean by a thief. The key fob has been eliminated as a suspect of inadvertently operating the doors. Once I closed a side door with the button on the inside of the car and after a few moments, it reopened. On three incidences doors opened while driving. This I assume to be a real safety hazard. Imagine if the rear was packed with luggage or groceries and the hatched open while driving on the highway. I wouldn't want to be the car driving behind me! the car was purchased 09/08/09 and currently has 4400 miles on it. These events happen sporadically and I have yet to have the dealer look into it (I had to cancel the first appointment due to a snowstorm) but I suspect they will think I'm crazy just as I thought my wife was crazy when the first time she told me the rear hatch opened while driving. I didn't believe her until it happened to me a few months later. And it happened to me again more recently.

Door power locks ceased to operate after about 9,000 miles rendering the automatic door locks from operating when vehicle reaches 15 mph which is a safety item. The failure was fixed by a software update downloaded from the main Chrysler factory. However, the dealer charged me for this service because the warranty had lapsed. I feel that the software had a latent defect that Chrysler should make good as a recall.

For some history, I own a 2006 Chrysler town and country lx that is less than 21 months old, I do not have power doors. The van that has less than 20,000 miles on it made and odd noise. Got out to check and saw nothing. It did it again while turning, so I stopped again to check, and as I was putting it into park the noise was continuous, it was a busted cv axle. Now I know what the malfunction was, but at that point I had no clue. I was attempting to get my three year old out of the car and the sliding door would not open. I double checked that the doors were unlocked and was trying to pull the handle to get the door to release. At this point I got frantic, and when the door finally released, it flew back so hard that it caused a dent in the rear corner panel. I understand that the vehicle must be in park in order to open the back hatch. The issue I have is that the door did not release properly to the extent that had the car been on fire I could have lost my child. I have looked up some things about Chrysler vehicles and people getting trapped in them and it didn't seem all that uncommon. After I had my child out I even tried turning the van on and off to get it to shift into park. I spoke with the dealer, and even the customer service people , and was told that they will adjust the door but nothing more. I did not think they were taking this seriously, even after the service manager had a hard time getting the door to release.
The power sliding side doors bagan making grinding noise about a year and a half after purchasing my van new) the dealer stated that they wer just dirty. However, 1000 miles after waranty the driver's side passenger door will no longer operate electronically, still function maunually, except it must be opened entirely or it will not relatch. Dealer stated that they do not know what was wrong, and will cost at least $150 to diagnose.
My 1999 Chrysler town and country limited Mini van driver seat caught fire when the seat warmer was on. The seat got very hot about 1 minute before and then smoke came up in front of me while I was driving and I looked down and saw flames. I put it out and turned off the seat. We purchased the vehicle in 2001. At the time of the purchase, the driver's seat warmer was not working and as part of our sale the dealership replaced the entire seat with a brand new one to correct the problem. Also, at the time of incident my passenger sliding door will not open from the inside. So, had the fire spread my passengers in the back would not have been able to open the door from the inside of the car. Someone would have had to let them out from the outside of the car. We have had the locks replaced in the past 2 years due to the car locking itself and locks not working from both outside and inside.

Exterior handle on rear sliding doos break easily. My daughter in law puled one side to oen and it broe off. My 5 year old grandson puled on the handle on the other side later and it to proke of. The cost of the new handle is 166. 00. I appears the the quality of material is of a poor quailty and the price for a new one is outrageous.

I used the power sliding passenger door with remote on key chain and interior power sliding door buttons and the problem is it just stopped working, one day it will unlock and lock when using the buttons but will not close properly or open automatically or close automatically. We have only used the vehicle less than one year when this occurred and the other side is fine but the passenger side does not work properly.
Recently the power locks on our Chrysler town and country minivan have begun to malfunction. They lock and unlock without reason, both while we are driving as well as when the car is parked in our driveway. Tonight they locked immediately
after I had closed one of the sliding doors after buckling my children in and before I had opened the driver's door, locking my keys inside. Fortunately my husband was also around and was carrying his spare. I believe that this malfunction presents a serious safety hazard. With two small children it is both a challenge and an inconvenience to schedule this sort of repair, but plan to have the repair made as soon as feasible.

1999 Chrysler town and country limited Mini-van. Outside door handles on both the right and left sliding doors have deteriorated and have fallen off of the vehicle. Dealer tried to replace under warranty but was refused by daimler-Chrysler stating that the handles were not part of the latch assembly. The doors are now unable to be open from the outside, making, in my opinion. The vehicle very unsafe. The cost of replacing both handles with labor is approximately $500. 00.
I have taken my tc limited in for repair for the left side sliding door for the 5th time, and each time I take it in for repair the same thing is wrong with it motor replacement!!! this is an issue that really needs to be taken care of. If anyone has any information on what I can do since this is the 5th time with the same problem please let me know.
I was getting my children out of the minivan and used the automatic door button on the inside of the van to close the door. As the door closed, my 2 yr old suddenly slipped her fingers into the path and the door fully closed on her 2 fingers. I immediately used my remote to open the door and released her fingers and it did not respond after several attempts. I attempted to open the door manually and realized it was locked, and it would not unlock with the remote either. I had to use my key to open the front passenger door and then unlock the doors from within the car and then manually open the door her fingers were stuck in. Her fingers appeared completely flat when I was able to remove them but although they were very bruised and swollen for a week or two, they were not broken. I feel we were very lucky that she was so young and small that her fingers were not hurt more and that she had not managed to get her entire hand into the door. The incident happened about a year ago and I assumed it was a fluke accident and did not report it sooner. I am reporting it now because I recently read of this happening to other children with more serious consequences and want to add to the record with our experience. We have been very cautious with our children around the doors and do not close them anymore until we have started walking away from the car but I still worry about them when they are in the car and the doors close.
The rear sliding door on our 2005 Chrysler Town & Country has failed, making it impossible to open the door more than 12 inches. This is a safety problem because we obviously have a van so that we can transport our children. The design appears flawed. There is a cheap plastic chain carrier that contains wiring and rides in the door track. This has blown apart, causing the car wiring to be exposed and subject to wear in the door track. Although we only have 54000 miles on the car, Chrysler says this is a wear and tear item (I. E. , we've just used the door too much). They won't fix it, even though the door on the other side is beginning to have problems too (bushings falling off, rough closing, etc). It looks to us like the whole sliding door concept at Chrysler needs to be rethought. We can't be the only ones with this problem. For us, opening and closing this door are things of the past until we can come up with the $300 quoted to us by the dealer, jeff wyler in newport, kentucky, for a repair that is obviously a design flaw. Contacting Chrysler's corporate headquarters (since this is obviously a safety issue with kids riding in the back) got us nowhere--in fact, they also stonewalled for a while on replacing the solenoid on the transmission--which was leaking, indicating to us that Chrysler's legendary transmission problems are still not fixed, even on its most recent vehicles. We've owned three Chrysler vans, meaning the Chrysler has made quite a bit of money off of our family, but this is the last one we'll ever buy.
I have a 2001 Chrysler town and country, I have a problem with the power sliding door, this has now happened twice first time fed. 2005 and now Dec. 2005. Both times it has happened it has been cold, single digit temp. When starting the car and the power sliding door is shut, the moter of the door kicks on and keeps trying to close the door, resulting from this, the door becomes ajar, and the auto slide door will not work plus the door will not shut the door latch freezes in the lock mode and the door will not close!!! this happened when I turn the car on, first time my kids were in the car the second time no one was in the car and the power slide door was never touched.
Rh side door intermittently fails to open. It was repaired under warranty at 30861 miles. Now failing again. Dealer says over $400 to repair. I believe this is a safety issue since the door becomes nearly impossible to open and does not close properly after it fails to open electrically. I believe that Chrysler needs to repair it properly, or have a safety recall on this defective mechanism.
The contact stated the sliding passenger door of van closed on the contact's leg. He opened the door remotely, and while it was opening, his shoulder bumped the door, causing the door to reverse. The cause of this incident was unknown because no contact has been made with the dealer or manufacturer. As a result of this incident he sustained minor injuries.
When using the automatic door closure option with both the driver and passenger sliding doors, the door will only close to within 5 inches and then bounce back open. I have taken it in for warranty work 3 times and they are unable to repair it, they have replaced the latches and replaced the track thing it runs on.
