8 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/14/2010

At 49000 miles the check engine light comes on. Knowing I probably couldn't afford the repairs at our dealership, I decided to diagnose and repair the vehicle myself. The check engine code read p0480, a code noting a problem with the cooling fan system. After researching the code online, I realized that I was not the only one with this problem. It turns out the town and country, in winter weather, tends to have cooling fans freeze up. As a result, the cooling fan relay will blow out. As I waited for my new relay to arrive in the mail ($47 online, $90 at your dealership) the check engine light turned off. Thinking that maybe the vehicle had made a clean trip, I checked the computer again. P0480 was still stored within. The next day I received my new relay via mail, and went to install the part. Upon calling brookdale luther's service department to acquire the location of the relay on my vehicle, the service employee, though very helpful, noted that Chrysler new of the problem and that I would need an update to my vehicles computer ($120). In response to my question why, I was told that the computer needed to know when the fan motor was jammed to turn the motor off before blowing out the relay. So I could keep buying relays, or pay the $120. My question is this. If Chrysler knows of a problem that could cause a vehicle to eventually overheat, which in some cases could cause a fire, why wouldn't they issue a recall.

10 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/26/2010

My 2000 Chrysler town and country van, has a problem with the serpentine belt coming off while it is raining. This is a very difficult and dangerous problem because it cause the power steering to go out and the most inopportune times. I really wish someone would be ethical enough from Chrysler or NHTSA to do a recall before someone get killed.

11 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

Brake pads and rotors need to be replaced every 8k to 14k miles, recall j29 raditor capand k04 discharge hose - parts ordered July 26,2010. Vechile brought in for service again on sept 27 2010 dealership "ordered the parts again because they never replaced them. Brought the vechile to another dealership on Nov 18 2010 and these recalled were corrected along with k14 for power door possibly causing a fire.

12 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/12/2009

While driving the van it began surging, as if a fuel line problem, and then would die and each event the power steering would fail. I had to park the vehicle in a hospital parking lot and get it towed in morning. When attempting to start the vehicle, it made a very loud "clank" noise as if a rod broke. Result is a $5000. 00 engine replacement due to a faulty computer which sent erratic signals to cam sensor. Vehicle has 120,000 miles. . . . All commuting at gentle speeds (we have averaged 23-25 mpg so it is obvious we drive sensibly). We have been religious about service. . . . . And can prove it. I have owned Chrysler products since 1966 and this is the last!.

13 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/13/2009

2008 Chrysler town and country radiator defect at 28000 miles rotors and calipers needed to be replaced twice within 15000 miles (from 15k to 30k miles on vehicle). Brakes have been done 3 times and are in need of a new set less than 1500 miles since last new set. I damaged the back end of my t+c because the brakes failed to stop; luckily, my children weren't in the car. Chrysler is giving the runaround and when I bought the car less than a year ago, they brakes were squeaking like metal on metal and they said the brakes were fine (I had them checked three times within a 3 month period and one of the times my family and I were at the dealership for over 6 hours waiting!) Chrysler's complaint department said they would contact me on both phones (cell and home) and I have yet to hear back.

14 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/09/2009

I have just recently bought a 2009 town and country van . I've taken it back to the dealership 3 times in the past month . The anti lock brake system . And now the air cond. Condensation is keeping the front floor on the passengers side soaking wet and some on the drivers side. This van has about 32,000 miles on it should it be having this many problems.

15 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/24/2009

The air conditioning on our 2003 town and country does not shut off. I turn off the radio and my heat or air conditioning before exiting my vehicle. As of today, my air conditioning does not shut off on our van unless I turn the vehicle off. I tried to shut it off while parked and all it did was switch to cooling off our feet in the off position. The air is blowing so hard and cool that we all had goosebumps on before we even reached our destination. We have not been able to shut off the rear controls for a while so we just opted not to use it, we should have seen this one coming. So not only do I have my rear air conditioning running, now we have the entire system running all the time, even while it is turned off. All I can say is wow, did we buy a lemon or is this just a poorly made car. Electrical problems, doors don't close, radio doesn't work in the rain, and the gas gauge doesn't even work.

16 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/03/2008

2005 Chrysler town and country with 45,000.

17 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/30/2008

My Chrysler town&country with 3. 8 eng. Belt has come off when driving in heavy rain 4 times. Losing powersteering and causing engine to quickly to overheat. Dealers have no fix for this problem. This almost caused me to damage my car and possibly others since it came without any warning. I checked the internet to see if any one else had this problem and found many. It seems that so may that gates belt company designed a belt package to solve this problem. I purchase this repair package and seems to be working in the rain. Shouldn't this repair been a recall by Chrysler before someone gets hurt.

18 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

The serpentine belt on my 1996 Chrysler Town & Country lxi, makes a loud squeal and then falls off a week later. When driving in rain and going over a puddle the serpentine belt falls off this has happened so many times that I have installed brackets one by the tensioner and one by the pulley. The immediate & dangerous result is loss of power steering and power brakes next is water pump fails causing engine to over heat so unless you have a spare belt in your van at the time and the tools to change it you are let stranded.

19 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/07/2008

Chrysler town and country 2006 air conditioner went out they unable to fix because of multiple failures and unable to get parts. For people who are seventy as us it becomes a health problem.

20 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/22/2008

We purchased on 11/06/07 a used 2006 town and country from VIN devers (419-885-5111) in toledo ohio. We also bought a service contract and the 8 year 80k mile warranty as this vehicle would be our family car. We have three young children. The first time we used the ac (05/19/08) we discovered it didn't work. It only blew warm air. We called VIN devers and they said it was not covered so we tried another Chrysler dealership in the area. They too explained it was not covered. Both dealership advised not to take it to the other dealership. After several phone conversations with both dealerships and being totally confused we finally gave up and paid for the repairs ourselves. I later called Chrysler's service center in auburn hills and they explained the repairs should have been covered. I am now working with the service center to have the moneys refunded. This has been a total mess from the initial purchase of this vehicle and I would like some assistance. The repairs were for the rear evaporator coils and all new hoses and costed $670.

21 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/29/2007

Driving on highway, temperature warning light illuminated. Temperature gauge indicated h (hot) position. Stopped vehicle on side of highway and inspected coolant. No coolant in system. Added coolant, drove 3 miles, repeated. Had towed to private garage. Mechanic replaced coolant lines to rear heat at a cost of $321. Mechanic stated that lines were rotted throughout. Stated that every t&c he sees with rear heat has coolant line failure such as this. States they are of inferior quality, cheap aluminum with no protection. Cannot guarantee they will not fail again.

22 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/13/2007

I purchased a 2001 Chrysler t&c new on 9/10/2001. Presently I have 38,000 miles on it. First item replaced was the sway bar at about 30,000 mi. Then on 5/22/07 the tie rods had to be replaced due to front wheel play. On 8/13/2007 after arriving on vacation, the next morning I went to a local store about 4 miles from the resort. On the way back the van started to over heat and the alarm sounding. I pulled over and waited for it to cool. After arriving at the resort I checked the coolant. Remaining was about 4 1/2 quarts of the required amount. I filled it to capacity and ran engine noticing coolant leaking. I had it towed to a Chrysler dealer. They were able to place it on a lift immediately advising me that the dual coolant tubes made of steel pipe had rusted under the van on the front passenger side. I had 37,800 mi at this point. Repairs cost $423. 22. Amazingly Chrysler changed the replacement tubes with aluminum tubes. I noticed in reading reports regarding my same problem, many owners are having the same situation. Surprisingly this was not covered by my extended warranty along with the tie rod replacement. All the vehicles I have ever owned never needed tie rod replacements. Regarding the use of steel to run coolant under a vehicle to the rear heater knowing road salts, rain, etc have a devastating effect on this metal, Chrysler engineering goofed at the cost of the customer, avoiding listing this part under extended warranty. At this point having owned a 1990 Dodge caravan with 2 transaxles replaced and giving Chrysler another chance to prove themselves in building a better vehicle I guess I overestimated them along with placing my faith in their company. I have sent customer assistance my complaint and bill for the coolant pipe replacement placing little hope in reimbursement. Now I see why the american car manufacturers are loosing out to foreign car manufacturers.

23 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/19/2006

At 60,000 miles, engine is losing coolant. There are no visible signs of leaks. Temperature gauge read hot. Pulled over, let engine cool down, and noticed there was no coolant. Vehicle engine oil was recently changed by walmart. And to my surprise, walmart's best oil change does not require checking coolant. Engine oil was clean and full.

24 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/23/2006

A/c compressor failure - we were on the road for about 1/2 an hour en route from tallahassee to orlando on thanksgiving day, 2006. As we exited onto hwy. 19, we noticed smoke coming from the hood of the car. (later, it was apparent that a belt on the a/c system burned as the compressor locked up. ) this was at least the 6th a/c system failure. We had recurring leaks that were "fixed" and recharged numerous times, starting at a macon dealership off I-75 in summer 2003 to a replacement of the rear a/c unit in summer 2006. Last week's compressor failure was the latest in this long series of problems with the a/c, but clearly the most serious as it resulted in considerable smoke and at least the potential for additional damage and danger.

25 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/27/2006

Gentlemen, I own a Chrysler Town & Country minivan (2001 model lxi) with about 33,000 miles on it. Recently I took the van to my local dealer for its regular oil change and to have a tire rotation and alignment performed. While performing this service the dealer service consultant told me that the lines from the front heater to the rear heater were corroded to the point where the lines were about to break and/or leak coolant and should be replaced. They showed me the area and sure enough the area behind the cross member immediately behind the front wheel had the mounting bracket rusted off completely and the line itself for about 4 inches just behind the bend to go up in front of the firewall had metal flaking off and was about to give way. I have marked the area on the enclosed figure 6 from your service manual. The corroded area was a few inches in front of the rubber line which acts as a connection from the metal front heater line to the metal underbody line to the rear heater. For your information no coolant has been added or changed in this vehicle since its original delivery with the factory installed coolant. I believe that this line should not have corroded this rapidly (five years and low mileage) and that Chrysler should reimburse me for this repair even though the warranty has expired. This is bad design and material selection. In this day and age no lines of this type should deteriorate this rapidly even in a section of the country where salt is used in the winter on the highways. Even more important is the possibility of complete loss of coolant and the safety hazard of a major failure. You should seriously consider a recall inspection and replacement in those areas of the country where winter salt is used.

26 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/24/2006

My 2002 and 2001 town and country"s the rear heater steel tube lines rusted out at the bracket just under the passenger floor in front of the rubber tube connection to the rear aluminum tube lines. There is a recall on the 2005 year but Chrysler will not honor this on 2001-2004 models even though they are the same tubes on the town and country and the Dodge caravan for these years. I have a 2001 and a 2002 town and country plus my sister has a 2002 Dodge grand caravan with the same problem. I also looked into your other forms for the same problem and there are complaints in 2001,2002,2003, and the recall statement for 2005. This is a common flaw and should be repaired by Chrysler and this part re-engineered and the new style part fully installed on my 2001 and 2002 town and country's at no cost to me.

27 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/17/2006

Heater tubes rusted and lost of all coolant suddenly. This tube runs from the front to the rear heater element. This tube is 2" from the exhaust pipe. Definitely a poor design.

28 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/17/2006

T&c ex 2001-steel lines (2) for rear heater rusted through leaking out all its fluid. (hoping there is no damage to engine). These lines go from engine compartment to just under the vehicle. Replacement lines were made of aluminum at a cost of $149 + 6% tax. (was given a slight discount on price)loss of fluid was $21. 58 + 6% tax. Labor done by self.

29 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/06/2006

Noise started coming from engine compartment. Water indicator went to hot. Pulled over and car was steaming. After allowing car to cool, checked anti-freeze which was low. Refilled and started car. Anti-freeze was pouring out of coolant tubing at bottom and towards rear of engine. Shut car off. Inspected tubing. Tubing was rusted out. Called dealer and had car towed to dealer. The dealer replaced tubing under warranty ( 40 miles remaining). Dealer also mentioned that 10 cars were brought in for the same problem this week.

30 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/05/2005

Vibration and in brake petal and/ or steering wheel. When turning sharply to left makes a grinding noise also has a bumping feeling like something is loose. Service department checked and had warped rotors and needed front disk brakes for the vibration, the grinding and the bumping noise was loose suspension sway links front brakes were replaced and rotors were resurfaced- I had to pay for the brake and rotor repair; the suspension loose sway bar links were replace listed was replaced front sway bar link and a link-sway eliminator. Driver seat feels like it has lost its cushion sometimes feels like there is a hard knot of something in the tail bone area of the anatomy. The a/c vents are unable to adjust for cooling the front and side windows. The floor vents do not line up with the openings in the floor console causing any air to be moved toward the front and under the dash. Was told the seat and a/c was all in normal operation.

31 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/27/2005

Coolant lines going to rear heater/ac unit in 2001 Chrysler town and country rusted out and failed suddenly. All coolant lost. Lines corroded where they pass within 2" of exhaust pipe. Clearly a design defect. Dealer charged over $400. 00 to replace the steel lines with new redesigned aluminum lines.

32 Engine Cooling System problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/27/2005

2005 chryssler town n country limited 6,100 miles only air conditioner is not cold. Sometimes passenger side is cool but the driver side is not. The 1 st time we had it in for service the dealership informed us that the free-on level needed to be filled more, and that mayby the factory did'nt fill it up all the way. I just brought the vehicle in for the 3 rd time. I'll keep you informed.

33 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

Windshield wipers will not operate in cool damp weather (25-45 degrees f with high humidity). They cannot be controlled- sometimes operating for 10 minutes without being able to turn them off, sometimes they go into delay mode by themselves, and sometimes will not even turn on. This has been going on since we bought the vehicle in 2002. The same problem occured with our 1997 Dodge intrepid ES which we sold in 2002 due to it being an electrical nightmare, a lemon from the factory. Though purchased new, the dealer would not make any effort to having the car replaced though we suffered through 3 years of warranty "repairs" for the same problem. Anyway, I digress. . .

34 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/05/2005

The serpentine belt comes off when driving through minimal amounts of water causing power loss to the steering as well as overheating. This is a serious safety risk which deserves a recall by Chrysler. I have lost steering while driving on 50 mph roads with my children in the vehicle. Several times my children and I have been stranded due to the serpentine belt falling off causing me to lose steering and my vehicle to overheat and had to walk down roads with my children to find help. After researching this on-line it appears that this is due to due to an engineering miscalculation of the pulley system.

35 Engine Cooling System problem of the 1996 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/16/2003

The airconditioner continues to malfunction after several attempts to fix it by my mechanic. After the second setting the van begins to overheat. The clutch in the transmission failed after 63,500 miles.
