36 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

Every time my 2006 Chrysler town and country is filled with fuel when driving off within minutes the engine dies and start up takes several tries. This is a safety problem pulling out in traffic risking the vehicle becoming disabled and subject to the on coming traffic. When the engine dies power steering also becomes disabled. Lets hope no one fills up near a railroad track. Chrysler is aware of this problem recalling several of their makes for the same problem knowing they have the same gas tank on more than a few of their models.

37 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

After fueling, this vehicle stalls 1 to 3 times. We do not "top off the tank", but stop fueling when pump shuts off. It does not matter the temperature outside. The engine shuts off and power steering and power brakes are lost. There have been times that an object, such as a mail box, is almost hit because it's very difficult to control the vehicle. This is no doubt a safety issue because control of the car is lost. If you pull out into traffic thinking the vehicle is going to accelerate and it does not, you are in danger of being hit by oncoming traffic. Apparently this is quite a common problem for these vans. This needs to be addressed by Chrysler.

39 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

For 3 months now, everytime the vehicle is fueled, the engine begins to stall and sputter. This happened on 2/20/2014 at 5pm after leaving the fueling station and the car stalled in the middle of a turn through a heavy traffic intersection, I lost power steering at a critical point in the turn and crossed one lane and almost into a concrete wall before muscling the steering wheel into a safe spot to try to restart the vehicle. I have been seeing a lot of reports about a failure with the vapor liquid separator valve on the gas tank that allow liquid to fill the charcoal canister which inturn sends raw liquid fuel rather than vapor into the engine intake causing an extremely rich mixture causing the stalling and sputtering. This is happening after every refuel and I am seeing hundrends of Chrysler owners complaining of the same problem. Chrysler denied ever hearing about this problem when I called their customer service number to inquire. Apparently the fix is to replace the fuel tank. Sounds like a very unsafe design flaw to me.

40 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

The car stalls after fuel tank fill up. This happens every time we fill the fuel tank. After approximately a quarter mile or one minute or so driving the car sputterrs or stalls.

When done fueling the vehicle, gas will flow back out of the tank and all over the car and ground.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/25/2013

This vehicle stalls after refueling. I google the problem and I found numerous complaints from people with this problem all having Chrysler/Dodge vehicles. This is a huge safety concern as the vehicles tend to randomly stall after refueling. Several mechanics posted the cause as being a defective value on the top of the fuel tank causing the problem. This is one of those posts. Shops are reporting a problem with the gas tank on Dodge caravan, grand caravan, Plymouth voyager, and town and country vans. Shortly after refueling, drivers experience engine stalling. The stalling may repeat several times. The problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank. The valve is designed to prevent liquid fuel from entering the charcoal canister/emissions system. When the valve fails, liquid gas can enter the line and fill the charcoal canister. After refueling the pcm on the vehicle detects a change in fuel level. Then, when the engine meets certain temperature and driving criteria, the pcm issues a purge command to the charcoal canister to remove the stored gas vapors. It?s at that point that all the liquid gas in the line gets sucked into the charcoal canister. The pcm expects to see gas vapors entering the intake manifold and it is prepared to adjust air/fuel mixtures to compensate. However, it is not prepared to see liquid gas coming into the intake. That?s what causes the engine to stall. Unfortunately, the only fix is to replace the entire gas tank. Chrysler does not sell the vapor/liquid valve as a separate unit. Once the tank is replaced and the charcoal canister purged, the problem goes away.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/03/2013

My van frequently stalls out, and it's particularly likely to stall immediately after fuel refill, especially if I fill up the tank. It happened again this week, leaving me stalled out at a stoplight for a few minutes. Sometimes, too, it will leave me stranded by acting as if the engine is flooded and therefore, it won't start. If I let it sit and don't attempt to start it for at least 30 minutes, it generally starts right up. This has been going on for at least 18 months, but I am not certain of the exact date of the first instance.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that there were two leaks within the fuel system. When the contact refueled the vehicle to capacity, the fuel gauge would only read that the tank was half full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the egr system exhibited a large leak and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle could not pass state inspection with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 129,000.

46 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/30/2013

First incident: filled up low gas tank at a gas station. Hopped in the car, started it, and drove off. About 1 minute later, the car shut off completely. It started up again a moment later. Second incident: same as the first incident, only a week later. Empty tank, filled it up, shut off about a minute later. Third incident: same as first two forth incident: this continues, occurring every time now.

47 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/17/2012

If I fill the gas tank until the automatic shut off stops the flow of gasoline, after leaving the gas station, the first stop I make the car will want to stall. I have to put the car in neutral and keep it revved or feather the gas pedal in drive. On some occasions if it does not stall and I am on the highway it will feel like it wants to stall and I have to be careful and feather the gas pedal. As long as I don't fill the tank to the point off the pump automatically shutting off I have no problem. I feel this is a dangerous problem that needs rectified. I have owned 3 Dodge caravans and another Chrysler town and country and never had the problem, all were prior 2007 models.

48 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

I stopped and got gas. I do not overfill my tank. I did not top off my tank. As I left the gas station and pulled across traffic my 2006 Chrysler town and country began to shutter and stalled. After that day, every time I fill up the same thing occurs. I have researched and reviewed many sites on the internet and see that there are many others that have had this same dangerous issue. Apparently, the only way to repair the problem is to have Chrysler install a brand new gas tank. It seems the real issue is a defective vapor/ liquid valve. This a tremendous safety issue, I was almost was hit by on coming traffic because of this issue. After spending many hours searching the internet, I have found no recall to date. Does someone have to get injured or die before Chrysler fixes this issue? my kids, all 4 of them were in the vehicle when it happened to me the first time. Now I drive around the parking lot, let the vehicle stall and then drive.

49 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact filled the vehicle with approximately 3/4 of a tank of fuel and parked it on a hill. The next morning, the vehicle had approximately 1/8 of a tank less fuel. The contact smelled fuel inside the vehicle. The failure recurred on more than one occasion. While driving approximately 50 mph, the interior lighting illuminated without warning. The contact had to manually turn off the lights. The failure recurred on several occasions. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator was intermittently illuminated. The failure recurred on several occasions. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated when shifting from second to third gear without warning. The failures recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

50 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

Had just filled gas tank and pulled out of gas station into traffic. Van began to sputter and stalled in middle of traffic. After this happened several times figured out not to fill the tank all the way. A couple of times almost got hit from the rear.

51 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/28/2012

Engine stalled after fill up without any warning. After refill as car left gas station engine rpm went down and engine stalled. It happened in unexpected places like entering busy road or starting from traffic light. Driver gets no warning like check-engine light indicator and engine just stops. Asked dealer to check the problem few times, but minivan was returned back and dealer could not repro the problem. Did not feel safe to drive as I had no idea when to expect engine to stop working, till I found internet forums mentioning this failure and the only way to resolve this issue was to replace fuel tank.

52 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

After fueling, the 2007 t & c van with 3. 3 l v-6 starts to stall, sputter and surge. This has become progressively more frequent with each tank fill. After 30 seconds from the onset, the engine normally returns to normal idle and runs smoothly. The last incident occurred last evening (3/9/13) and the engine surged by up to 800 rpms just after the van was put into gear and we were pulling away from the gas pump and we had a bit of control loss with pedestrians in the way. No one hurt thankfully.

53 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

While traveling on the highway, I ran over road debris when changing lanes (saw it too late to swerve). The left front wheel kicked up the road debris and I felt it hit the undercarriage. A couple of days later, when adding fuel to the tank, we discovered that the fuel filler neck had been sheared off! the fuel we were pumping went straight to the ground.

54 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

Fill up with fuel (not topped off, just until the pump clicks off) and the car starts, but after going several hundred feet, the engine starts to sputter and choke, then the car dies. Must restart and usually it still chokes and sputters, but then will seem to resolve once you step on the gas and will not typically stall out until the next fuel up when we rinse and repeat the same experience. This happens every time I fuel up and has for over three and a half years. I finally decided to do some research on it because it's very nerve wracking as it happens once you leave the service station and are out in traffic. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be addressed before someone is killed because of a faulty gas tank! I found that Chrysler has addressed this problem with some of their vehicles this is occurring to, but not the minivans. . Read more...

55 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/22/2011

Purchased van used from a Toyota dealership in may of 2010. Reported within days to dealership that van had a stutter when at idle. They gave it a tune up but it did not resolve the issue. Warranty purchased with van did not cover the fuel system. Stuttering continued and became worse as the years went by. Van began to die when idling, especially if turning left which put us in danger a number of times. Also, we smelled fuel. We replaced the tank in 2013. However, our mechanic informed us at the time that it had a design flaw and the same issues would occur in a matter of time. Tank was fine for two years. Within a month of the warranty expiring it began to stutter at idle again. It helps to not fill the tank completely. However, it smells of fuel and continues to stutter at idle. We will not spend another $1500 to replace the tank as with the design flaw the issue will just reoccur. Chrysler needs to recall the gas tank and create a design free of faults.

56 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

Stalls at stop after full gas tank refueling, doesn't stall if not completely full.

57 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

Vehicle will stall and usually completely cuts off after gas tank has been filled. This happens almost every time. After this happens it is hard to re-start and has caused the vehicle to be stranded in the road.

58 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 5 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The intermittent failure occurred immediately after refueling the tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to locate the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

59 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

For the last couple of years, every time we fill the gas tank on our 2004 Town & Country it stalls after driving begins. On multiple occasions it has stalled in front of several lanes of oncoming traffic. The engine totally dies and all power steering is lost. After restarting it runs fine. We have had multiple occasions where collisions have been barely avoided and this is my wife and children in that van. It has been reported on multiple online automotive forums as a common problem. The Chrysler mechanic immediately new the problem when I described the symptoms. He said it is caused by a faulty sensor in the fuel tank and they see it very frequently but unfortunately Chrysler does not acknowledge the problem. This is a serious safety issue and I hope Chrysler decides to do the right thing and it does not take a loss of life to get their attention. I assure you that it is only a matter of time before this becomes reality.

60 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/07/2007

For the last 5 years every time we fill the gas tank on our 2004 Town & Country with gas is stalls after driving between 50 and 150 yards. On multiple occasions it has stalled in front of several lanes of oncoming traffic after pulling out of gas stations. It has also stalled in front of fast moving oncoming traffic when turning left across oncoming lanes. When it stalls, the motor quits and all power in steering and braking is lost. The van must be put into park in order to restart, which means coming to a complete stop in front of traffic. After restarting it runs fine. We have had approximately 9 occasions where high speed collisions have been very barely avoided, usually with children in the car. It has been reported on automotive online forums and from mechanics as a common problem resulting from a faulty sensor in the Chrysler fuel tanks. Unfortunately Chrysler does not acknowledge this fact.
