There was no incident yet. The driver's side upper strut bracket is rusted about a 1/4 of the top side. Don't know where the moisture could have come from? the seals above that area seem ok. Couldn't find any past recalls for this issue but, the passenger's side is just fine. At this point the insurance company won't cover fixing it. And am not sure what could be done? this is my mom's car and the information below is mine.

To whom it may my 2008 Chrysler town and country caught fire last Friday in my garage. When I woke up to bring my kids to school I noticed the back part of the car was burned in the car was filled with smoke. I immediately called the fire department once they got there they noticed the car was cold, that the fire had been started, and put itself out, in the middle of the night. The fire inspector came as well, and determined it was an electrical fire from the rear speaker, where my daughter typical sits. My car is a total loss. Likely we would not hurt, the fire was right about the gas tank! I'm wondering if this is something I could file a case on or if you can direct me to someone who handles cases such as this. As far as I know, according to my insurance company, price I was not going to help me out even though it was a manufacture error. Any information you could provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Vehicle began approximately 30 miles prior with a wobble/sway at highway speed. After another 20 miles clinks developed from right rear. The final incident had the right rear wheel seemingly lock causing me to bring the vehicle to a sudden stop. As it turns out the vehicle had 2 right rear swing arm mounting bolts missing and the other 2 sheared off. This caused the right rear tire to contact the inner wheel well cutting it. Additionally there were 2 bolts missing from the left swing arm mount. Had this occurred at highway speed and not as I was exiting it could have been a very serious accident.

I have less than 50k miles on my minivan and the front hubs need replaced. I have contacted Chrysler and they don't to do anything about it because it is out of warranty. I have seen in 08 and 09 they have recalls for this same issue. To me they are putting inferior parts on these vehicles. Is there anything that can be done to get to Chrysler to pay to fix these. I want to keep my family safe as we travel this summer.

My wife was driving alone, north bound on I 65 south of louisville, kentucky when the back end of the vehicle swayed and she proceeded to slow down and pull off by driving on to the right berm. A tractor which was mowing the grass the side of the road swung up onto the pavement and my wife ran into it. The tractor driver was ejected from the tractor. The front end of the Town & Country received extensive damage and the insurance company stated that the vehicle was totaled. My wife received extensive bruises to her right side, and her forehead struck the steering wheel. Both bones in her left arm were broken, probably due to the fact that the air bag did not deploy. She was taken to the hospital in louisville, kentucky. Two days later surgery was required as plates and screws were installed in her left arm to hold the bones together and a cast applied. Inspection of the front seat after the accident showed that the horn in the steering wheel still worked but the cover of the air bag in the steering wheel was still secured.

Slightly before 9,000 miles I started noticing a slight shimmy of the steering wheel when the brakes were applied when driving over 50mph. This condition did not occur consistently, but was sporadic. As time has past, this condition has become much more frequent, the steering wheel shimmy has become much more severe, and is now occurring at speeds as low as 35mph. I have owned Chrysler town and country vans over the past 16 years (trading up every 2 years) and can testify that their brakes have been a consistent weakness (typically warped discs). My previous 2009 Chrysler t&c even had a recall for their brakes. However, this severe steering wheel shimmy thing is something that I have never seen in the past and I am afraid that it is approaching a violent situation that may cause loss of control. The mileage on the vehicle is far too low for a brake wear issue. Furthermore, a warped disc would be noticeable when breaking at all speeds. I am about to go to my dealer with this, but am checking the internet to see if this is a known issue and if there are any existing recalls. These observations are made from my 30 years of experience as a mechanical engineer and former head of product reliability at motorola.
I purchased a used 2008 Chrysler town and country touring edition with appx. 30,000 miles on it in late 2011. In may of 2012, I had an accident which only affected myself and the vehicle. While traveling approximately 45 mph the passenger rear wheel came off of the vehicle, causing the van to slam to the ground and me to perform emergency maneuvers to stop. The wheel, having had all five lug bolts sheared off, had bounced off of the vehicle doing considerable body damage. The brakes, axle, tire, et al had to be replaced. I chalked this up to coincidence, paid my deductible, and had over $3,000 worth of work done to repair the damage from the accident. This past Sunday, August 24th, 2014, the exact same thing happened. I was traveling slower this time, about 25 mph, and when I heard the same wheel making noise I pulled off the road into a strip mall parking lot just in time to have the wheel come off again, this time doing damage to the rear quarter panel, the bumper, the axle, brakes, tire, et cetera. It also forced me to make another emergency stop, this time in the lot, where the right side of my vehicle was damaged by the handle of a commercial dumpster that stopped my skid. I reached out to Chrysler because I cannot believe that the exact same thing to the exact same wheel would happen twice, and I now chalk it up to a parts failure on Chrysler's end. I was at first told that they were not responsible and that nothing would be done on their end. The following day, I spoke with the Chrysler dealership where the van was towed and was told by their head mechanic that the failure was due to the (factory) alloy rim. I again contacted Chrysler with this new information and was told that my case was being moved up to a "specialist" and that I would have to wait 3-5 days before I heard from them. I no longer feel safe transporting my family in this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact was driving at an unknown speed when the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the detent package was replaced and the power train control was reprogrammed. The failure recurred several times. Later, while the contact attempted to brake, the vehicle responded slowly and the brake pedal was depressed into the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to dealer where the front brake pads and rotors were inspected and replaced. The front and rear brakes were found to be worn and warped. The manufacturer was made aware of failure however no further assistance was provided. The current mileage was 29,800 and the approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact heard a loud screeching sound from under the vehicle. After inspecting the vehicle the contact noticed that the front passenger side tie rod disconnected and the other three wheels were pointing forward. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the technicians replaced the tie rod. They also advised that a lug nut was not tightened correctly. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 2,766. Updated 04/10/lj

Noisy tires, 225 65r 17 michelin energy a/s feathering on outside edges on front tires. Alignment checked and found to be in spec by dealer. Tirerack rates this tire very high, but after a few thousand miles, they are already showing signs of abnormal wear and cupping. The combination of the t&c fwd engine weight, cheap front end components which cause stabilty problems, along with this soft riding, hard rubber michelin, will become another problem like the Ford explorer & mavericks with firestone 500s. Steering stability, quick response and wander are a safely issue on this tire /vehicle combination.
Today I noted that both michelin as energy saver 225 65 r17 front tires are cupping on outside edge, steering has been very sensitive at high speed, vechicle wanders easily on the the freeway requiring frequent steering correction. It is the alignment of the "caster" adjustment/design or manufacturing of the new t&c design has a problem. With only 3500 miles on it, I ran my hand over the tread of all tires, and the front tires are cupping, while the rear are smooth. Please advise. Dealer informed of oversensitve steering, has not performed an alignment yet. Waiting for a call from from Chrysler complaint dept.

Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle began to jerk, shake and decelerate abnormally. The failure recurred most often when driving in rainy weather. The vehicle was taken to an auto mechanic for diagnostic test in where the technician advised that the driver' s side strut mount would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 123,000. Kmj.
Rear axle spit in two while driving at 50 mph on back road, lucky not on highway. Tires slammed into wheel wells, caught on fire almost, lots of smoke. Could not control vehicle well, and went off the road at approx 25 mph and hit a bunch of small trees, injured both knees, refused ambulance transport. Car was towed to my garage and axle replaced with junkyard part and vehicle is back on the road. Scary incident ,could have been worse or fatal if this happened on a highway instead of a local road. Axle tube is just thick sheet metal, not really an iron pipe like you would think, very flimsy. Have nice pictures ifyou are interested. Should recall this flimsy axle.

The contact owns a 1997 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 30 mph, the contact noticed a tapping noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics where the mechanic advised that the surface around the strut on the front driver side was corroded because of poor drainage from the drainage system. The mechanic installed a cap on the corroded surface to minimize corrosion of the original part. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

1997 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated the left front axle broke while driving. The vehicle was being stopped and she was able to pull it over. The vehicle was then towed to a mechanic, not the dealership. There was no explanation as to why this happened. Chrysler has not been contacted. There had been no problems with the vehicle prior to this. The vehicle has been fixed, but the contact has not yet picked it up so there was no information on what was replaced. This happened on October 11, 2005. Updated 11/29/2005. The mechanic explained to the consumer that a bushing on the axle holds moisture and caused the part to rust.
Knocking in the front wheel area. Technician claims it may be a bushing or a strut (or a bushing on the strut).

Both front wheels fell off while the consumer was on the highway. Vehilce was towed on both occasions.
Left front strut mounting plate has rusted thru allowing the strut to penetrate into the engine compartment. This is the only area of rust on the entire vehicle. Chrysler service personel and multiple mechanics have indicated this is a condition they would expect to see on a vehicle 20 - 25 years old; not 6 years old.
Dealer identified problem as "clock spring failure" dt.
Please fill in description.
Front and rear shocks are leaking where they connect with shaft. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Vehicle constantly pulls to right, wheel alignment has been done. Also, tires were replaced. Did not remedy problem.
When driving front of vehicle pulled to the right, and there was access wind inside of vehicle.
While driving at any speed car pulled to the right. Consumer has taken vehicle to 3 Chrysler dealers and on outside source. They said that it was due to a defective part in front back and fornt right of the caster. Dealer put shins in. Currently, there is a whistling noise, and vehicle still pulls to the right.
While drving about 30mph, vehicle would vibrate for no reasonsteering wheel would shimmy & shake. Took to dealer & informed consumer that tires needed changing. Manufacturer of tires (michelin) it was due to design of vehicle.

Van aways pulls to the right when driving. Dealer and manufacturer said no problem found in van.
While driving vehicle at 50mph, vehicle vibrated. Had control of vehicle at time. Had all 4 tires changed & rotated since November. Informed by dealer the problem was with tires. However, informed by tire dealer that it was suspension.
At highway speeds steering wheel vibrates uncontrollably. Dealer has attempted to repair the vehicle.
