I began to notice oil underneath my 1999 Dodge Caravan on my concrete driveway. It appeared to come from the valve cover. The vehicle mileage was only 47,000 and the van less than two years old. Allstar Dodge service told me it could be the valve cover or the head gasket which he advised could cost around a thousand dollars to repair. My Caravan was out of warranty (3yr/36,000 miles) I took the van to a mechanic. He repaired the valve cover gasket and notice no other problem at the time. Two months later the head gasket failed. I contacted allstar Dodge service whom advised me that there were no problems with the Caravan and no recalls. I took the van back to my mechanic to have the head gasket repaired. My mechanic told me the engine in this van is the same 2. 4l engine that was recalled in the Dodge neons 1997 with faulty gaskets. He stated that I may want to investigate the problem. I have since found complaints about both the valve cover and the head gasket problem. I pray others with the same problems would file complaints so that something can be done to remedy these problems and before someone gets seriously hurt or dies.
Head gasket failure. Vehicle well maintained, records available. Unacceptable for major engine failure (head gasket) at relatively low milage. Chrysler needs to recall as my independent mechanic reported that he has seen this problem with this type of engine many times although chrylser maintains that this is "not a common problem".
Was told I needed head gasket replaced due to oil dripping. No prior problems have had regular service check up and oil changes I have called the manufacturer and was told there were no recalls as a result. I did find another complaint of similar situation on allpar. Com . This seems too early for such a large repair.

Loss of oil and overheating while driving. Taken to a repair shop, and informed of a head gasket failure. Dealer was notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was not covered under a recall. Feel free to provide any further information.
Engine head gasket failed, causing major oil leak.
Dealer service manager stated that they (Dodge) have had many failures of the head gaskets on the Caravan 4 cylinder. Even though the car was out of warranty, Dodge agreed to fix the engine head gasket. This is the second head gasket failure. Thank god that I noticed the small oil leaks in the carport. If I haddn't the engine could have let go on the highway. Something is very, very, wrong when you have to get a head gasket replaced every 10-30k miles.
Cylinder head gasket failed. Yh.
Rocker arm gasket failure.
While driving vehicle started overheating. The driver had vehicle towed, who indicated that this was caused by the way the head gasket was designed. The head gasket was replaced, but the problem recurred twice. Ts.
Gasket failed causing oil leak.
Vehicle was taking to mechanic for routine service. Upon inspection of vehicle, dealer noticed oil was leaking onto the engine compartment. Mechanic stated head gasket was going bad, needed to be replaced. The auto shops that inspected the vehicle stated that the head gasket failure was a common problem with these models.
