Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) Problems of Dodge Caravan

My 2010 Dodge grand Caravan stalls 5 to 10 times per week. It stalls at any speed and at any time (warm or cold). Since the Dodge dealership could not find the issue (hats off to their ineptitude), after further research, I learned the issue is due to failure of the totally integrated power module (tipm) and affects other Dodge/Chrysler products . See NHTSA action number: dp14004. However, NHTSA stance on this is ¿except insofar as the petitioner's contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the Chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioner's contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a NHTSA order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize NHTSA's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition is denied¿. This will only be resolved when someone dies or the NHTSA takes our ¿contentions¿ seriously.

Original owner of the vehicle. This is actually a report of 5-6 separate incidents of the same issue within a week's span. The engine of the vehicle suddenly shuts off while driving. It is instant and silent, with no pre-warning. Driver loses all power steering / brakes during the occurance. Last incident almost caused an accident when the vehicle's engine stalled and a following vehicle had to take action to avoid a collision. My wife and kids were in the van at the time of the incident. When it happens, the van always starts back up, but it has to be stationary and in-park. Vehicle was taken to the dealership on 01/23/15 for repair. Dealership indicated the egr valve and temperature sensor was faulty and has been a common problem for decades. This is the second temperature sensor that has been replaced by the dealer. Internet search confirms many issues such as this are evident on the road. Repair made 01/23/15 at a consumer cost of $513. 41. Our purchased extended warrnaty covered all of it, but $150. 00. I consider the issue, in regard to a dfmea format to be, loss of function which shall be a severity of 10 and an inverted delta by the manufacturer. I ask that NHTSA investigate this issue as my families well being was at stake this morning which does not sit lightly with me as a husband / father.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test, who stated that the win module would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The dealer then stated that the after market remote starter was the cause of the failure because of the wiring but the failure persisted with the illumination of the check engine warning light. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with an egr failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was waiting for the part needed to complete the egr repair to become available. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated while driving over a bump, the engine stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but the problem recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to duplicate the failure but stated that the evaporator system integrity monitor switch was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 500.

2004 Dodge Caravan. Consumer writes in regards to fuel tank extended warranty coverage that applies to vehicle stalling after refueling. The consumer stated the vehicle began stalling shortly after it was purchased and has since continued. The stalling occurred at highway speeds and while making left turns. Also, the check engine light illuminated. The dealer replaced the egr sensor.

My 2002 Dodge Caravan with 4 cylinder engine has about 66,000 miles on it and the egr valve package has gone bad. The Chrysler dealer in my area states that this part is not covered by the extended emission's control warranty that expires at 80,000 miles. The part cost around $170. 00 and will take about $120-$200 for labor. The part # is 4287820ac.

During January 2001 the transmission would completely shut off in mid traffic or at a turn then either stall or turn back on by itself. We had it into the dealership 3 times before engine check light came on and they could tell us what they say the problem was : the egr valve and some kind of transmission leak. They completed the work for several hundred dollars and now in October 2001 the transmission while driving started making revving (accelerating) noises then stalled with no warning, now it will not shift from first gear without stalling and another Chrysler dealership says we need a whole new transmission for over two thousand dollars.

The warning light came on for the egr valve. Dealer has replaced the egr valve. Vehicle uses less fuel now. Van shakes left and right at 37mph, and up/down at 48 mph. At first, dealer denie dproblem. However, after they checked other vans and found same problem. Consumer believes shaking has to do with a faulty torque converter. Also , multi-function switch malfunctioned.
