1 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/30/2019

Remote randomly will not lock/ unlock doors. Pull the battery cable and remote works. Chrysler sent out TSB 08-040-04 on subject. They have a glitch in original software and seems unfair that consumer must pay to have it fixed. Sliding doors do not have keys to lock so one must crawl through the driver / passenger seat to lock manually. As an older adult this is a safety hazard. It should be recalled.

2005 Dodge Caravan. Consumer writes in regards to corporation and dealership violation of ada civil rights. The consumer stated the power locks were inoperable. The consumer was informed by a mechanic, it was a common problem with the software, with his year and model. The consumer stated, the locks, when disabled made it nearly impossible to support his quadriplegic mother. The dealer stated it would cost $100 to analyze the problem. 3 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/26/2012

Power door locks failed on 2005 Dodge Caravan sxt purchase new on December 21, 2004. Doors will work manually, but will not operate with the remote or power lock buttons. The back door gate will not lock without the power locks working. The power door locks are designed to automatically lock when reaching speed of approximately 20 mph. It does not. This is a safety issue. Why doesn't Dodge admit to this problem and provide a free software upgrade? if you google it there are many complaints of this. This should be a recall for safety issues.

4 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 08/10/2012

Power door locks cease to function from internal switch or key fob. Key fob still activates anti-theft alarm and will lock and unlock the rear liftgate but not the front doors or sliding doors. Removing and reseating the iod fuse/relay will resolve the issue for a short time but it fails again within a matter of hours or at best a couple days. Dealer attempted to replace the door lock modules but this did not resolve the issue. Research shows that this is a known issue and there is a software update to resolve it but Dodge/chrystler has not yet issued a recall or provided extended warranty coverage for this in spite of the widespread nature of the failures and apparently numerous complaints to safercar. 6 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The door locks, horn, headlights, a/c, windows and mirrors stop working. We have to remove the fuse or disconnect the battery and then it works again for a while. This is very unsafe when we get in the car at night and cant go because the lights wont go on. We live in arizona and that is unsafe when the ac and windows wont work at the same time. After a five minute drive my kids were about dying. Its unsafe when the door locks go out and we cant lock the vehicle. I understand that the vehicle needs a software upgrade, but that the dealership charges $200. I shouldn't be forced to pay for a defect that Dodge knows is defective.

7 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 09/27/2011

My power locks stopped working about a month ago. They will work manually but will not operate with the remote or the power lock button. Tried disconnecting battery and then re-connecting, tried remedy in handbook (turning key in ignition 4 times on and off , without actually starting it, and then depressing the power lock switch) which worked for two days. This is a safety issue!!! the locks are designed to automatically lock when reaching speed of approximately 20 mph. It does not. This is a safety issue!! why doesn't Dodge admit to this problem and provide a free software upgrade! many people are experiencing the same problem. Google it, it's there plain as day! is Dodge hoping the problem will just go away by itself? this is a safety issue! fix it!.

8 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

The automatic door locking system on my 2005 Dodge Caravan stop working . It can be reset by pulling the iod 20amp fuse in the main fuse panel for 5 seconds and reinstalling it which resets the system. It will then work for a short period of time before the problem reocurrs. I have had to reset the system many times. There are many Caravan owners with this problem. I feel this a serious safety issue and more so if you have kids. While Chrysler has apparently denied that this problem exists I have done research and found that it is a factory defect and Chrysler possibly has a software update which can correct the problem. Chrysler should be made to bear the cost of the repair to the automatic door locking system on my Caravan via a recall.

9 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/17/2010

2005 Dodge grand Caravan bcm software failure the failure happened unexpectedly about a week and a half ago. It resulted in power door lock failure for the van and eventually the engine not shutting off when the ignition was turned off and the key taken out. When the vehicle was designed, it was designed to have power door locks. With that in mind, there is only one key entrance for the van on the drivers door. Therefore, without the power door lock feature enabled we cannot access our small children as easily as having the key and being able to open the doors automatically. Also, about three nights ago I pulled my van into the garage, put it in park, turned the ignition off, and took the key out. The auxiliary features and fan motor were still running so I alerted my husband to come out and take a look. When he attempted to restart the engine, turn the van off and take the key out. The engine continued to run even though the key was out of the ignition. Eventually, he had to disconnect the battery in order to stop the engine. I didn't have to research on the internet very long to see that this is a common failure for this make/model of van. There is complaint after complaint of people having to deal with this issue because someone has not taken control of it and made a mandatory recall on this product we took it to the shop only to find out that the bcm software failure (that Chrysler is very familiar with) was our problem. After paying $70. 60 for a rental car and $105. 93 for the bcm update we now have working power door locks.

10 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

My 2005 Dodge Caravan's power locks stopped working about a yr ago (2009) I tried replacing the fuse, new battery. This did not correct the problem. There is only one keyed entry into the vehicle which is on the drivers door which forces you to crawl all around the vehicle to open the other 3 door. In the even of an emergency this would be a huge safety issue. I know from reading other forums that thousands of other 2005 Dodge Caravan owners have this same problem. Apparently Dodge is aware of it because they have a software program update for it.

11 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 01/02/2009

The door locks on my 2005 Dodge Caravan had stopped working. I naturally figured it was the fuse that controlled the door lock circuit. I could not find the door lock fuse, or even any instruction where to find the fuse in the owners manual. I went online and did a google search containing "2005 Dodge Caravan fuse location". I could not find any info on where the fuse is located, but I did find numerous other complaints regarding the exact issue I have. I turns out the 'fix' for this issue is a software upgrade to the vehicles bcm computer, as the installed software is bugged. I read it is a $130 charge to perform this update. My complaint is, why should the consumer have to foot the bill for a known defect with one the vehicles safety systems? it is obviously known that this problem exists as there is a fix for it, when will the company back its product? I am positive my complaint is not the only one of this nature, please have the company address this safety issue!.

12 Software problem of the 2008 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/14/2008

10/14/08, 10/17/08, 11/3/08, 11/7/08 - electronic failure, lost steering and brakes, car stayed running, almost got into an accident, all indicator light were on. I had to have car towed. It would restart but all light were lit. 1st time in they said it was a brake sensor and software needed to be updated. 2nd time, light would go out while driving at night, all lights came on, lost steering and brakes again. And. Wireless ignition node replaced, win module replaced, control assembly, instrument panel hvac and atc automatic temp replaced. 3rd time, I was driving down the street and the transmission shifted into 1 gear, no standard transmission either, pulled vehicle over, shut engine off and restarted. I was able to make it to the dealership, but manual shifting did not work and lights were on. Ans. Powertrain control module not communicating properly along with the tcm, test and replace pcm and flash pcm with new software. 4th time, still in shop as we speak, abs light and antiskid lights came on and would not turn off when car was restarted. They told me I could drive it, but almost getting killed 3 times in 3 weeks, I was not going to chance it. This vehicle is a lemon. Anyone want to get on board with a class action?.

13 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/20/2008

My power door locks have stopped working multiple times. After reading other complaints it is obviously a defect. I'll share a quick fix with other complainants: open your hood. If you stand at your driver side front fender, remove the cover from your fuse box. Remove the 20 amp fuse at the far bottom left corner for 10 seconds and then put it back in, it's an easier fix than disconnecting the battery cable.

14 Software problem of the 2005 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 12/18/2007

I have a 2005 Dodge grand Caravan. The power door lock stop working when the wireless remote is press it will not lock the doors. If I disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and leave it disconnected for 5 minutes it will work again. I have to do this every other day. I hear same people having this problem have taking the car back to the dealer and the dealer have charge $130 to reprogram the bcm. If so many people in the internet are having the same problem the dealer should not be charging this crazy amount since is problem with the software in the bcm.

15 Software problem of the 2003 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 08/26/2006

2003 Dodge Caravan headlights - unwanted shutting off while driving with minimal electrical load. Dangerous for mom & kids on highway at night. Preceded by other, probably associated, electrical problems. Wife at wal mart returned to vehicle. Gauges flickered, dashboard crazy, clicking sound from driver's side/relay(s) buzzing, power locks wouldn't function (great if she was trying to get away from mugger). Wouldn't start. This event preceded by headlights cycling off and on right after startup, but after running a few minutes stayed on during that operation cycle. Back to the wal mart event. Vehicle taken to dealership - replaced battery. Back to the future. Checked fuses, connections, harness, battery cables for fault/corrosion - nothing. No codes. Costly fixes may include:1) fuses and boxes, 2) battery cables and terminals corroded, loose or not grounded/battery,3) headlight switch,4) multi-function wand on steering column (there was a 2003 viper recall for lamp contacts corroding - 20031010 - this could be it for the Caravan too. . . Dealers were supposed to reflash the bcm software),5) fcm,6) bcm,7) alternator (charging issue as opposed to control/regulation issue. . . Maybe shorted diodes),8) god darned electrical harness, might throw in ignition switch too. Noted that Dodge has a TSB for older models with a software algorithm adjustment for fcm, but not in effect for 2003 models?can this work for the 2003?this will be the last Dodge we ever purchase, or that extended family ever is associated with, if this is not resolved to our satisfaction promptly. Dr. Z and/or NHTSA - if you want to fly someone down here ASAP to see these results reproduced - we get them nightly - so quit the liability mitigation game and get this resolved. Factory car.
