3 Starter problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

Since 2013 my Dodge grand Caravan has failed to start on numerous occasions. It will work ok when suddenly you turn the key and the dash lights come on but the engine will not turn over. A Dodge dealer changed the battery but the problem has persisted. Sometimes you can turn the key to on shift into drive and back into park and it will start. Sometimes you can shift into neutral and it will start. Other times neither of these fixes work. Researching this problem shows it has long been a longterm problem with Dodge and Chrysler covering several year models. Numerous people have reported starters, batteries, tipm modules, win modules, fobs and neutral safety switkennethches (transmission range sensors) being replaced with no relief from the problem. Chrysler and Dodge dealerships are unable to diagnose the problem and correct it. It has left us stranded in both cold an hot weather sometimes with our 3 small grandchildren in the vehicle. I feel that the safety issue of this problem is something the manufacturer should be required to identify and correct.

4 Starter problem of the 2009 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Several occasions prior to this, radio would not come on,and then suddenly start working, several times in the past 6 months, the car would not start right away. After waiting and several attempts it would then start. Mechanic checked and could not see anything wrong with battery, alternator or starter. Traveled to florida and the engine light came on, all systems working, but light stayed on. Went to a service station, but the light just went out,so we didn't worry. Now, in the parking lot of my sons baseball, all the electrical systems stopped working, the vehicle just shut off, I could not get it to start, it finally started and I drove it to autozone and the systems check showed again battery, alternator and starter are fine. It did start up today after sitting for a day and now the doors and tailgate are not operating. I am frustrated and nervous to drive this van. It is only 4 years old and I have read all the issues and complaints and this is a major safety issue. If the electrical system shuts down while driving, we could get in a fatal accident. I travel a lot with the children and I have great concerns now about the safety of this van. I read about the l25 recall on the win module for the 2010 Caravans. I believe this is the defect in my 2009. This is manufacturer issue and should be covered for repair.

6 Starter problem of the 1997 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 04/22/2006

1997 Dodge Caravan 3. 3 liter v6 with 93000 miles. Started vehicle and the starter mechanism locked onto the flywheel or failed to disengage, making a screeching noise. Turned ignition off and engine shut down but starter kept cycling engine. Removed keys from ignition and van was still attempting start by turning the engine over and over. Strong smell of burning electrical components as the starter continued to cycle engine, unabated, with keys out of ignition. Hood was popped and battery cables were disconnected shutting the starter off. The starter cranked the engine, nonstop, without keys in ignition, for approximately 10 minutes. The only way to stop this was to disconnect the battery. Upon immediate inspection of the starter it was found to be red hot. The cables/wires coming out of the starter were red hot and smell of burning plastic filled the air. The starter was removed and found to be original equipment ( with Chrysler corporation logo intact). The starter was found to be locked in the extended position and would not retract. A new starter was purchased and installed due to the original being inoperable. Old starter was turned in to pep boys in raynham, MA for core refund. There is no doubt that if the battery was not disconnected, the starter would have continued to start the engine until it eventually(starter)overheated enough to ignite the wires and start an engine fire.

10 Starter problem of the 1996 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 09/15/1999

The engine is just the most recent problem. We went ahead and bought the extended warranty even though it is usually never used. This time we used it numerous times. We have had problems with the electric windows, the starter has been replaced, the fuel pump, the engine head, the electronic locks currently do not work. It has just been a real lemon. We just do not know what to do. This time the engine blew and there was no clue that anything was wrong. We have been stranded several times and last night just barely made it home.
