1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2020

2006 Dodge Charger daytona r/t randomly stalls while driving or parked. No check engine light gets produced. In that split second that it shuts off, the car loses power completely and no brakes or power steering. This is extremely dangerous, and Dodge should issue a recall immediately to fix this issue. Most sources point to a faulty gas tank that has a lifetime warranty now but should be recalled.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2019

Car was operating just fine no check engine lights or anything of that nature stopped at wal-mart and was in store for about 30 mins. . Came out and went to start car and it sounded like a popcorn popper full of metal and started smoking so bad it filled entire parking lot with smoke so thick that you couldn't see 3 feet beyond your face. . So had to pull car home and when I pulled valve cover and plugs on left side I noticed meral shavings in cylinder 1 and plugs in cylinder 4 were completely smashed smashed in on themselves ( gap gone ). . Apparently the valve seats dropped into cylinders and puctured pistons. . . I have looked online and it seems that this has been a pretty regular occurrence with other 2006 hemi Chargers. . .

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2017

Car shuts down completely while driving. Check engine light comes on along with a red lighting bolt. Went to Dodge dealership & they ran diagnostics no code came up. They did replace fuel tank from a previous recall. Got car back & immediately stalled again. Carried car back & they ran diagnostic while driving & code came up to replace computer. Replaced & programmed computer & car is still doing it. Dodge states that they do not know what the problem is.

6 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

Head lights flash while driving then shut off then come back on. As I down shifted on the freeway the car died and check engine light came on now I'm stuck with a broke down car. It shifted really hard and died at the same time the check engine came on.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2015

Our problem still has not been fixed. The car continues to "die in flight. " I have uploaded a video to youtube. Https://youtu. Be/ssawxdfdswa this occurred while attempting to merge onto the interstate. The rpms jump up and down. The oil light and the electronic throttle control light flash and ding. The check engine light came on. This is going to cause an accident and the dealership says there is nothing wrong with the car.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

I have complained on this vehicle multiple times now. It continues to have a randomly stalling engine while driving. The dealership claims it is not the gas tank. It has finally started causing the check engine light to come on (yay! it might actually get fixed). Just kidding! the dealership states that the codes that show up are general pcm codes that mean nothing. From online research, it appears it may be an electrical issue with the pcm, ecm, or numerous other parts. Either way, most of us go without cars for weeks while mechanics cannot find the actual cause thus cannot fix a dangerous vehicle. Most of us don't want to drive vehicles that stall while going 40 mph.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and coming to a complete stop in the vehicle, the vehicle stalled with the check engine light and several other unknown indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a tune up was performed however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft and the sensor had failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

While driving on the highway in traffic at approximately 70 mph the car stalled with no check engine light or engine misfire/stuttering. The stall was as if the key was turned to the off position. The car coasted to the side of the road, restart was attempted and the car started perfectly, I continued to drive. The car stalled again after a few miles, restarted and it stalled again - this continued, each time with the time driven being less. All this time the check engine light did not illuminate. I finally made it to a shop where the car was diagnosed and the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor was replaced. This did not solve the stalling issue. The car will have the pcm replaced in hope that this will solve the problem. This is a very unsafe failure especially when traveling at high speeds - the car loses all power and is very difficult to move into the shoulder when it stalls (no power steering). This is a very serious safety concern that can be catastrophic.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

When merging onto the freeway upon slight acceleration the engine died, in front of a semi truck! we had no power steering or brakes! this is a huge safety issue!! we were lucky to not have crashed. I then turned key to off and restarted to resolve the issue. This has happened 6 more times at lower speeds I. E. 15mph, 20, 30 mph ranges, with no check engine light!? brought it into mechanic and they couldn't find the issue, car had no codes. They suggested replacing the crank position sensor. We did that and it was fine. . For 15 miles until it died again!!! still no codes, dealer wont help, I can't drive the car as it is unsafe. I did some internet searches. Found about a known issue with the fuel evap system and the fuel tank and filler neck. These faulty parts cause the car to read false rich signals and causes the engine to run leaner. So now, lack of appropriate fuel upon acceleration causes the engine to stall and lose effected drive systems. This is ludicrous from Chrysler how many deaths has this caused!?!?.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2015

Note: I am documenting my most recent date of incident because there have been so many inconsistent, unpredictable incidences to recall the first. These issues have gone on for probably at least 3 months now. Today while waiting at a stop light, my car died as light turned green and I got ready to go. I was still in idle/ no acceleration. I put the vehicle in park and attempted to start. I was able to get it started and moving before the light changed but not soon enough. I even put flashers on so drivers behind me would know I wasn't getting anywhere on first attempt at moving. (this occurred 2 days prior while waiting in line of traffic---twice in the parking lot. On Sunday it died at least 5 times while waiting in long line of traffic/congested parking lot after an event. ) once I arrived at my destination tonight, I decided to check for code and got none. Then after idling about 5 minutes it died. I again started it and let it idle. It died again. I did this a few more times with same result in even less idle time. I did notice that the last time showed the check engine light and the oil light. I'm not sure if this is part of the fuel tank issue for which I got a recall letter last may or not. This is getting frustrating. (by the way, I have a half tank of gas. I haven't refueled in a few days. ) prior to this random stalling it would 'hiccup' during acceleration. The rpm's would plummet and a chime would go off. This lasted maybe a second and then returned to normal. Some hiccups have been mild while others were jerky. When I talked to Dodge service dept about hiccup they didn't think this was fuel tank issue. Fortunately, both problems aren't occurring at same time but both have been frustrating. The hiccups haven't occurred since the dieing started. I am frustrated and concerned about our safety.

13 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving at any speed, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The failure recurred daily. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, two months after the repair, the failure recurred and the engine was replaced a second occasion but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,152.

14 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2014

We purchased a 2006 Dodge Charger 3. 5l from a local dealership with around 63,000 miles. They filled the tank up before we left. Other than the customary lap around town with the "new" car, I didn't drive it for two days. I drove the car 70 miles to another town for an appointment with no issues. When I went to leave my appointment, I started the car and attempted to back out of my parking spot. The car died as soon as I placed it in reverse. I put the car back in park, restarted and tried to shift to reverse again. The car died again and the check engine light was on. I attempted the same process again and it died yet again. I thought of revving the engine while reversing to get the car to move, but I didn't do it because of safety issues. I was blindly backing into a street and didn't want to get involved in an accident. My brother happens to work in the same town I was in. He came to help. I stood in the street to block traffic. He revved up the engine (two footed the brake and gas) and managed to back it into the street. The check engine light was still on. I two footed the car the 70 miles back to the dealership I had purchased it from. The dealership I purchased the car from sent it to a Dodge dealership. The dealership says that there is nothing wrong with my car and that they couldn't replicate the engine dying. They stated that I was driving with the parking/emergency brake on. I never use my parking brake (all my cars have been automatics). My parking brake was not on at any time. My brother stated the parking brake was not on. This is a major safety issue and I am not satisfied with how the dealership handled it. I could not drive my car out of a parking space. What if it had died in the road when I had to stop at lights or for other vehicles turning in front of me? I found similar complaints from other Dodge owners online. See investigation pe 13-016.

15 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

After filling up my gas tank, I drove down the road for approximately 3 miles. When I stopped at a light, the car began running very sluggish and then stalled. Check engine and oil light popped on. I immediately turned the key to off and sat at the red light for a minute. I turned the key on and the engine started back up and I was able to put into drive and proceed to my destination. It has not happened again since however I realize this is a growing and common problem with other 2006 Dodge Chargers.

16 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

My vehicle began shutting off while idle about about a year ago. It started back up immediately and I was able to continue driving. Initially there were no check engine lights that came up. It soon happened again and this time the check engine light came on. I took it to firestone and they pulled some codes that they said the dealer had to repair. By the time I got to the dealer the lights went off and I shared the other diagnostic with them but they were unable to determine what was really wrong. It started happening again months later and I took it to yet another mechanic. This mechanic 'reset the computer" and made the check engine lights turn off. It stopped for a time but the problem came back. This time (140,000 miles) the engine shut off on the highway! I was slightly tapped on the rear by the driver behind me. Another time a semi truck was behind me and I stalled. Luckily we were in slow moving traffic. Again at high speeds the engine would turn back on but this is very dangerous. I am afraid to drive my baby in this vehicle. There are a ton of similar complaints on Dodge forums with these vehicles. Dodge needs to fix this before someone gets hurt or dies!!!.

17 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2013

This is not the first time this has happened and this is flat out dangerous! after driving all day I was almost out of gas so I stopped at one of my regularly used gas stations. As like I always do when I get gas I got a full tank and I do not overfill, once the handle pops I'm done pumping. Vehicle started fine and I drove off the gas station with no problems. Once on the main road I approached my first turn and in mid turn going about 20mph my vehicle just stalled,no warning or nothing it just randomly stalled. Once the car rolled off the main street I put it in park and tried to start it up again. No luck, the vehicle wouldn't start. It took a few tries but managed to get it running again. To my surprise I didn't have a check engine light so I sat there for a while revving the engine and even shut it off and restarted it, everything seemed fine so I went on my way. Shortly after I drove off it happened again and this time I was just driving straight. From the gas station to my home is about 10min and in that short time frame the vehicle randomly stalled 4 times! this went on for a few days until my fuel lvl was about 3/4 full? after researching online on Dodge forums I was able to find out what may and most likely be the issue with my vehicle. Some say its a collapsed gas tank which affects a check valve in the gas tank that is for the evap system. When you have a full tank and the system opens up to release gas vapors back into the engine it's actually sending raw fuel back into the engine which in turn floods the vehicle and causes the stall. Of course this part can't be replaced or fixed since the tank and those parts are sold as one piece which is big $$$! my only fix for this until this is recalled is I don't get a full tank anymore. This is a serious and dangerous issue which should be recalled immediately before someone gets into a serious accident.

18 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that she was driving approximately 55 mph when the check engine sensor light illuminated and the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer but the cause of the problem was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 82,729.

19 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2013

My car stalled less than 1 mile after pulling out of a gas station after filling up with gas. It took several tries to restart before successfully able to drive again. I thought bad gas. But it now happens every time after I fill my tank full of gas. My car's rpms will sputter for the first couple miles after filling up with gas. It also stalls every time driving within the first 2 miles of filling up with gas. It is very scary driving with my family in the car and fearing that my car will stall in the middle of an intersection and cause a major accident. There is no check engine light or diagnostic codes for this. Just the oil light comes on and the engine dies, power steering fails, and abs are not working.

20 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

In June 2013 I started experiencing problems with the check engine light and the vehicle intermittently shutting off. Took vehicle to several different Dodge mechanic and was advised they could not duplicate the problem and just not fill the gas tank to full when adding full. This went on several months and after spending thousands of dollars for "problems" not associated with this issue I took to a neighborhood mechanic who after having the vehicle for several months determined it needed a new throttle switch (didn't solve the problem) and finally rebuilding the computer. This helped the problem a little as the stalling out only happened infrequently. However, recently the problem is reoccurring more frequently.

21 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2012

I have a 2006 Dodge Charger rt 5. 7l hemi. I just recently purchased this car. At times when I am accelerating quickly or press wide open throttle the vehicle shuts off for a second and then cuts right back on. The check engine light comes on as well as the lightning bolt icon flashes and I also hear a chime as well. The rpms drop all the way to zero as if it is stalling and losing all power but immediately cuts right back on. Through research I have noticed this is an on-going problem with a lot of Charger owners and a recall should have been issued by Dodge by now before someone loses their life. TSB# 1803105 NHTSA# 10016027.

22 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2011

Recently I started having an issue with my Charger. Upon entering a high way and attempting to merge with traffic during morning rush hour, my car lost all power upon acceleration. The engine did not stall but the tachometer dropped to near zero, the engine light and power light flashed briefly and then returned to normal. I attempted to accelerate again and same thing happened. Fortunately I was able to avoid a pretty significant accident with the the cars behind me and the ones I was merging on to the highway with. The symptoms disappeared for a few weeks and then started again and progressively became worse. I brought the car to the dealer that investigated and found it to be the power control module which turned out to be quite expensive. I did some research on a forum that I belong to and found many instances of this. Contacted Chrysler and simply put they did not seem to care. There are many defects on this year of Charger and not one of them has ever been covered, at least the ones that I have. I consider this latest incident to be serious safety problem and hope that it gets investigated. As for another Chrysler product, never again in my lifetime. I rely on my vehicle for work and this is by far the worst that I have ever owned. Please look into this before someone has to start checking off accident and death when submitting a form.

23 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2010

2006 Dodge Charger r/t. This has been going on for years, I read about others having similar issues and decided to contribute mine as well as it happened again the other day when I accidentally refilled all the way. When you fill the tank all the way, the vehicle stalls immediately and will continue stalling until the gas tank is no longer "completely full. " the only easy way to fix without taking something apart is to repeatedly restart the car until enough gas burns off. Even with taking care to not fill the tank all the way, going up certain hills seem to cause the stall as well. No check engine light, just power cuts off. One single chime from the car as the oil light turns on. You can restart it but obviously this is bad when it happens in traffic. Seems to stall most at stoplights and other idle conditions but can also stall in low speed scenarios. Never got fast enough to tell if it would happen there too. According to both independent mechanic and dealer, this is a valve inside the fuel tank which would require an expensive fuel tank replacement to fix - the mechanic said they had seen a lot of them, but there was no recall so it would be at my expense to fix.

24 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2008

06 Dodge Charger with 33,000 miles. Car has began to violently shake and engine light will begin blinking while almost stopped at a stop light or fully stopped. I have to shut the car off stopped at an intersection for a short time and then restart to get out of the intersection. I do not see how this can possible be safe for my passengers(3 & 7 yr old), myself or other cars. This has occurred 4 times since may 2008. The dealership has replaced oxygen sensor, flashed the powertrain control module (saying lost communication with steering control module), and on July 29th replaced the powertrain control module. Had car back a few days and backed out of a parking space, put car in drive and pushing the accelerator did nothing. After a few seconds the accelerator worked & I moved about 10 feet. The car started shaking violently/engine light began blinking and I had to shut the car off. Fortunately, no one was around me this time. When I restarted the car, the engine light stayed on constant(not blinking), which I have been told over & over by the dealership is safe to drive. I was able to drive the 2 miles home. Took car into dealership again on Aug 4, 2008. Was told this time that there is a TSB & they have to order parts. But to pick it up until the parts come in that it is safe to drive. The consumer was told the vehicle had an evaporation leak. There were times when the vehicle would not accelerate, the engine light and esp/bas light illuminated. The dealer then stated the cause of the problem was a multi-cylinder misfire at cylinders 2-4. Updated 10/09/08.

25 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2006

I purchased a 2006 Dodge Charger apprx 2 wks ago. The engine light came on the day after I purchased car. I took the car in that Friday and was told it was a service recall issue and to bring the car back because it would take all day to repair. I too am filing under the texas lemon law. Car only had less than 19000 miles when purchased. I also have a problem with loud squeaking brakes.

26 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2006

Car purchased 2/2006 w/ approx. 5,600 mi. First occurrence in 6/2007: vehicle in drive at stopped position. Proceeded to accelerate through intersection. Vehicle almost stalls and sputters (engine makes rough winding noise). Does not accelerate. Engine light on briefly. Pulled over, put in park, returned to drive to try again. Same thing happens. Turned vehicle off, waited a few seconds, and then back on. Drove fine for about 30 days. Thought maybe bad gas. Over the next couple of months it happened approx. 5 more times at different times during the day (hot and cool days, engine cool and warm). Twice engine light came on and had to turn off for over 5 minutes before light would go out to proceed. Brought in to Chrysler dealer on Sep. 13, 2007 where car was purchase for oil change, tune up, new tires and explained rough/whining idol, lack of acceleration and stalling/bogging down occurrences from a stopped position. Said problem was fixed after mouse nest removed from engine and injector wire repair from chewing. Sept. 17 & 18, happened again - backed out of driveway (each morning), came to a stop, put it in drive, and rough/whining engine sound and no acceleration above 20 mph. Brought back to same dealer on 18 sept. Have not been able to "duplicate the problem" so left overnight. Updated 01-14-08. Updated 12/12/08.
