Engine Shut Off Without Warning problems of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Pcm shuts down briefly without warning at seemingly random times, although this seems to be more common when accelerating from stationary such as at a stoplight. Sometimes the outrage is extremely short and there is a ding from the instrument cluster, sometimes it is longer with one or more warning lights illuminate briefly including the electronic throttle, and sometimes the cel will illuminate. Outage never seems to last more than a fraction of a second. If the cel comes on the code is u0100 lost comm. W/pcm. If speed is above about 15 mph the engine doesn't actually stop, there's just a big jolt, as if they hey had been turned off and then rapidly back on. At slower speeds the engine stops and must be restarted with the key. This has resulted in near accidents when pulling into traffic and suddenly stopping. Dealer had the car for a week, at first couldn't duplicate but when it did happen they couldn't diagnose. They reprogrammed the tcm and changed the transmission fluid and filter (which were due anyway) and replaced the battery for lack of any better ideas. This problem can go a week or two without happening or happen 10 times in 3 days. I added a recording voltmeter to monitor key voltages in and out of the pcm (measured and recorded approximately 20 times per second) and this showed the first sign of trouble is the auto shutdown relay control voltage out of the pcm going to zero while the battery voltage and keyswitch �run� voltages both remained high(~14. 2 volts). I replaced the pcm with a refurbished one (could not locate a new replacement) and the problem was not observed for two months, but then resumed. Multiple similar reports on the internet, mostly related to filling the gas tank but my problem has no correlation to refueling or fuel level.

I took my 06 Charger in for airbag recall and when I left the dealer my car shut off at every lights and shut off in the middle of going 40 50 miles an hour. It continues to do that more and more everyday. I've read on the internet about so many of the 6th generation Dodge Chrysler products doing this exact same thing. I can understand why a problem that causes you to stall out in the middle of a busy intersection is not addressed. First it start telling me that it was electronic throttle control problem, then it's now telling me that is a problem between the throttle control module and the ecm. This happened exactly one minute after I left the dealer getting my airbags recalled. It stalls at when stationary, when moving, in the middle of the street, and every couple minutes. I know I am not alone with this problem but I don't understand why nothing is being addressed.

Started engine and violently started shaking and then shut the engine off an restarted fine. While merging onto the highway on ramp moments later the car shut off and was unable to start again. The vehicle had to get towed on the highway on ramp. Engine has been deemed unfix-able by automotive shop an a new one must be used to replace it.

Car engine shuts down at highway speeds momentarily and back on a couple of times engine shut completely off had to pull over to the side of the road engine restarts no fault lights come on after searching the internet I find that this problem has been around for a while very dangerous if Dodge has addressed this problem I find no recalls it should be taken care of as soon as possible this has been going on for quite a while on my vehicle today being the latest episodes Thursday, October 13, 2016.

I have a 2006 Dodge Charger that shuts off while driving. Vehicle has 97284 miles. I currently have the vehicle in for repair at phillips Chrysler Dodge Jeep in ocala FL. The pcm has been replaced but this issue still continues. Vehicle shuts off with out warning while driving.

After refilling my tank with gas, my car suddenly began to stall. Immediately after refilling, I started my car and within a few seconds it shut off. After many attempts of starting it and remaining stationary, my car finally remained on for more than 5 minutes and I assumed it was safe to begin driving. 5 minutes into driving on a city street the car began to jerk and stalled in the middle of the street, fortunately it didn't cause an accident. I was able to restart it and turn into the nearest shopping center where I contacted chrystler, who claimed they had no knowledge of this issue. I've seen a multitude of complaints with similar, if not the same, issues I continue to experience.

2006 Dodge Charger rt car shuts off with no warning shuts off at a stop light or stop sign. When I'm driving under 60 mph it stalls as if it's going to stop and the electrical light pops on and goes off but it does not shut off. When I am driving under 40 it will shut off and I have to hit the brakes and put it in park or neutral and restart it. But the best part of this which it's really not a best part that it starts rite up after each encounter. There is no engine light through out this issue so I don't know what kind of code it's going to read. I took it to napleton Dodge in lansing, IL yesterday and told them the issue and showed them the edmunds report for the extended fuel tank warranty but off course they want to try to get some kind of money from me ($125) for a diagnostics which I'm telling them and showing them the report.

My car is shutting off while driving causing unsafe driving conditions. I have checked numerous forums and many people are having this same issue. This could result in a fatality. I was driving and my car just shut off the power steering went out I was not able to start the care again until I got it back in park. It has happened 2 times now.

Engine shuts off at any speed. Spent over $6,000 at dealership still has same problem. Very very dangerous at freeway speeds lose of power steering and power brakes when the engineshuts down. Will restart and drive after malfunctioning.

My car shuts off when sitting in traffic also car does not cut back on until after 3 tries its also shut off after u put gas in the car in stall at idle it also shuts down sometime while driving I have a daughter who is only 6 this is very dangerous for call to shut off in traffic I'm scared don't no what to do or why I'm have in this problem.

Car stalls and engine shuts down, loss of steering while either sitting still or driving at higher speeds. This has happened on numerous occasions after adding fuel to the car.

On 4 separate occasions now within the past few months, my car will shut off on its own after I have filled it with fuel. The first 2 times the car shut off while in the fueling station parking lot. The third time occurred while I was driving on a three lane road traveling at 50mph. The last incident occurred at a major intersection causing my vehicle to block traffic. Each time was immediately after filling the car with gas. I use only premium fuel in the car and the fuel was purchased at different businesses. After allowing the car to sit for a minute or so, the car will restart and runs as normal. I have called a local Dodge dealer and was told there are no recalls and that there is no way for them to diagnose what could cause this to happen. I have been told by other Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 owners that they too have had this issue; car shutting off after fueling. My concern is that by stalling in an intersection or at high speed, eventually a wreck will occur. I am also concerned by the Dodge dealer's service department telling me there is no way to diagnose this issue.

After filling up my Dodge Charger rt with fuel and topping off, while driving back home the car stalled 3 times "just shut off" the car started right back up. Is this the vapor purge valve on top of the tank?.

I filled up with gas in California when on vacation. I pulled out of the gas station and onto the freeway. About a minute after merging and getting up to speed the entire car shut off. No power, no power steering, completely died. I had to merge through two lanes of highway traffic at highway speeds to get out of the flow of traffic. Car was able to restart after putting it in park and waiting several minutes. Huge safety concern having the vehicle completely shut off on me. I have had four other instances of this happen to me. The other times I was on side streets or in the parking lot waiting for the car to die.

Vehicle seems to buckle and jerk, most notably after refueling. First noticed this while on the interstate traveling at 70 mph. Vehicle eventually shuts off when you near a stop and sometimes takes multiple times to restart. The oil light comes on when it shuts off but the oil level is fine.

I filled my gas tank getting ready to go on a trip and vehicle started stalling out without warning ,engine would just shut down. I have been told that there is a known problem with the 2006 Dodge Chargers with the fuel tank.

While driving on freeway, car died. Was able to start it back up again. Gas tank only 1/8 full. Got off freeway. Car continued to just shut off while driving on the streets, leaving me stuck in the intersection several times.

I had just finish filling up my car with gasoline and was driving through the sub division. My car shut off at the stop sign. This has happened on several occasion in the past year after filling up my car. On this day I step on the gas tried restarting my car and it would not start. When I took it to the repair shop I was took that my engine through a piston on the number 3 and 5 and I need a new engine. No one was able to tell me why that would happen. When I explain what was going on with the fuel system I was told that that may because the car was running and it was not getting fuel and it through the pistons.

First time it shut down on me I was at stop light going to work in leland nc. The other time it shut down on me I put gas in the car in charlotte nc. I was away from home. The system shut can't want crank . I was in the middle of the street on my way to work in leland the first time. Leaving the gas station the second time shut down at the light again.

I was going down the high way and the car just shut off and then came back on like nothing happen they really need to recall this and it a hemi 5. 7 daytona.

After I stop and fill my gas tank, my car will stall and shut off while driving. I was almost rear ended leaven the gas station because the car just shut off on me. This will only after I fill my gas tank to full.

The problem started back in December of 2013 at 77,000 miles. When I fill up at the gas station (I never top of) the car stalls and shuts off. It happens every time I fill up. I pull out of the gas station and it shuts off in the middle of the road. Dealer can't find the problem. It's very frustrating. My main concern is safety and the repeated service visits and cost. The last time was scary because it shut off at a red light. When I started up the car again it shut off in the middle of traffic. I managed to get home but the car shut off several times during the drive.

I gassed up, and then drove off. When slowing down for a stop light, my car's oil light came on and stalled out. It restarted, but then shut off again. I was able to re-start and then travel 35 miles each way visiting family. This happened again on December 3rd after gassing up, it shut down on me when I got to work in the morning, then stalled again on the way home. Then again yesterday, Dec. 4th 2013 when I got to work, I backed into my parking spot, and it shut down. Then leaving for the day, I was going down the parking garage about to exit, and it shut off before I could leave my building. I then drove it around the block, and it shut down again, and I had a hard time starting it. It finally started, and I headed home, and it stalled in traffic again, not even 10 minutes later. I was able to start it, and make it home. And it's sitting at home today, December 5th, 2013.

My vehicle shuts off at random times. While I am sitting at a red light it will shut off or while I am waiting for the car to warm up. When I take off the engine will shut off for a brief second. The engine starts up and the car will jerk forward. Sometimes when the vehicle shuts off it wont go back into gear and some of the gauges flash. I was left in the middle of an intersection twice when the vehicle shut off. I have taken the vehicle to transmission shops and dealerships and they can't tell me what is wrong with the vehicle.

My car from work like any normal night when all of sudden my car shut off and would not start back up. Eventually I called my insurance to have it towed home since after 11pm. The next morning I have my car towed to Dodge to be informed that engine had blown. My car gave me no indication or signs at all before this happen. The dealership informed me that the engine was blown due oil sludge. I very angry especially since Dodge only changed my oil and was not told about this earlier. My cousin has Dodge Charger as well and engine blown 8 months before mine for the same reason. When I told this to the dealership they told me I shouldn't believe everything I hear. I will never buy a car from Dodge again.

There was lost of power, steering was lost. I had to shift it in neutral and glide to the shoulder lane almost being hit by a truck. I turned the key off and tried to restart the car, after a few attempts the car started, when I shifted it in drive and proceeded to try and get back on the road it shut off again. The engine & electrical light was on. I tried restarting it and it started and drove like nothing had happened. I took it to the shop and they ran diagnostics and tried to duplicate the problem, they couldn't help me and says that until it happens again they can't do anything. I called the dealership and they said the same thing, they said that they have never heard of this happening. They said they would keep my vehicle and try to figure out what is going on, if they don't find anything than they would keep it and try to duplicate the problem and I could be without my car until they figure it out. I researched it online and there are multiple cases of this happening with Chrysler vehicles. There is now an investigation ongoing but until then many owners have to deal with this problem or go without their vehicle. A really bad accident to include serious injuries and or death to the driver can happen and what will happen then? before this occurs something needs to be done immediately and the company should pay for the repairs to correct his issue. A recall needs to be issued immediately!.

After fueling up, I pulled out of the gas station and onto a main road. About 300yards from the gas station. I accelerated to approximately 40mph, in the middle of the intersection my car "dinged" the oil light came on and my engine shut down. I lost all ability to turn, or break. This is a very dangerous situation. I feared for my life. I originally thought it was because I let the fuel levels get too low, after, I realized if I fill up all the way, this always occurs. God forbid if I were to be entering on to a freeway at a higher rate of speed. Since this has happened to me 3+ times, I am very scared and nervous to drive my car. Something as to be done. Please, before someone gets killed because the gas tank and evap canister are screwy! I. Ant get any dealership or mechanic to fix it without replacing the whole tank,($$$$$$$).

Took car to the dearlership for tune-up;and transmission service on march13, 2013; on April 17, 2013 the car totally shutdown as I turned into the gas station. I got it started, it jerked as if it was choking,I managed to get to the dearlership and it shut down again,just before I made it up to the service lane at the dearlership. I was told that the rear axle seals were leaking, which I had repaired,also that an updated memory chip should have been installed in March,so that was done. Pickup my car on April 18, 2013 and while sitting in traffic, the car was shaking and felt as though it was about to cutoff. I put in park while at the traffic light and pressed on the gas to raise the engine;as I turned into my driveway, it stalled again. I took it back to the dealership,they intitally said there was a coil that was misfiring but the diagnostic machine could not detect it. I picked my car up on April 25, 2013 only to have something electircally draining my battery down to 4 or 5 volts every other day. Took it back to the dealership, technician said their diagnostic machine couldn't find any problems with the battery,alternator nor any of electrical parts. I had no problems with my car prior to having the above services done. After speaking with a mechanic, I was told that I am not the only person having these type of problems, especially after a new software chip has been installed. Perhaps this and other issues need to really be addressed with Chrysler.

I bought my 2006 Dodge Charger r/t brand new in June of 2006. I always filled the tank with gas until the pump automatically shutoff. I never topped off with gas or continued filling the tank once the pump would automatically stop. This was never a problem for 5 years. Last year in October of 2011 at around 73,000 miles the car would stall and turn off the engine occasionally right after filling up in live traffic usually at a stop light or parking lot driveway. I would have to put the transmission shifter from drive to park since the vehicle shut off and restart the car with no problem. Today at 75,600 miles on March 27, 2012; I filled up as usual and the car engine turned off in traffic on 3 different occasions. I read on Chrysler owners' forums online this is a common problem with plenty of Chrysler vehicles and Chrysler is aware of it. The fix is a whole new fuel tank with a better fuel vapor valve and the cost would run $1300-$2000 for various car, van, and truck owners. The only other method I was advised by a Dodge service advisor was not to fill the car up all the way, perhaps to 3/4 of a tank full. This is dangerous for any driver when a car engine stops, steering locks, and there is traffic behind you. Some drivers will not know how to react in this situation. Chrysler should offer a recall to fix this problem with the gas tank instead of charging the owner.

Driving to the beach, suddenly all warning lights on dashboard came on, then engine shut off, loss of power, then thick white smoke coming from hood, then flames underneath the car, then within a minute the car was completely engulfed, destroying the engine compartment, and front seat, dashboard & windshield blew out. . . Scariest thing ever. ! I nearly escaped in time, lucky to have not been burned, lucky I got out alive. . . There should be a recall Dodge Charger r/t hemi, 2006 (5. 7 liter).
