1 Cooling Fan problem of the 2012 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/05/2019

While stopped at a traffic light near a busy intersection, there was a loud pop from underneath the hood which was followed by the vehicle shaking and stalling. I immediately turned on my hazard lights and attempted to move out of the flow of traffic. Upon inspection, engine coolant was leaking and parts of the fan blade were found underneath the car. It was apparent that the condenser fan had broken off and damaged the radiator. All of the fan's blades were gone and scattered underneath the hood and highway. The incident happened late Thursday evening and unfortunately, I cannot get it in to be repaired until mid next week as the parts have to be inspected and ordered. I have a family member that is a mechanic and he helped to get me and my kids home safely. Upon review of the Dodge site, there have been customer satisfaction notifications for the engine cooling fans for other makes and models with repair assistance, but the 2012 Charger is not listed as one of them. However, the exact same issue described is what has occurred with my vehicle this week. Dodge stated that this is not a current recall issue however, with my experience I feel this is something that warrants attention because had the vehicle been in motion, this could've been a hazardous situation for my family, pedestrians, and other drivers.

7 Cooling Fan problem of the 2007 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/26/2017

I was sitting at a stop light and heard a pop. The cooling fan blade on the passenger side of the car had broken and made a hole in my radiator. I immediately took the car to a mechanic and they replaced the fan blade and the radiator. Three weeks later the exact same thing happened to the fan blade on the driver side of the car, once again making a hole in my new radiator. I feel that this is a huge design flaw and, apparently, a huge problem with 2006-2008 Chargers. I'm so glad I was in town on small local streets both times when this happened. It would have been terrible if it had happened on the freeway. I checked with the dealer to see if there is any kind of recall for this part and there isn't. I have the 5. 7l v6 hemi Charger and it has a little over 100,000 miles.

8 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 05/11/2017

Recall l08 engine cooling fans, this recall is exactly what happen to my car. Cooling blades broke and went through the radiator. Called Chrysler to complain as I was told recall isn't on my exact VIN. They took my complaint and said it was the exact same problem but tough luck because the recall wasn't on my VIN. My car has been sitting in the front yard till I can afford to fix it only had the car 2 months. Sitting at the light felt like someone bumped the back of my car but there was no car behind me. Coolant started to leak through the a/c vent. Pulled over after the light changed and towed the car home as it just started to show that it was going to overheat. We removed the cooling fan and saw the broken blades and the whole it made in the radiator. I was told by Chrysler that the blades are cheap and break easily. Well hello if I am going to pay that much I hope that a vehicle is going to somewhat hold together. The dealership I bought it from had just replaced the radiator and inspected the fan and everything was good. Then it just breaks I can take and send pics if needed. Thank you.

9 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/17/2016

On the evening of 09/17/2016 at approximately 2200hrs, my wife was leaving a local store parking lot when she heard a noise and the engine began to shake and make a loud noise. Smoke and fluid began coming from the engine compartment. She immediately stopped the vehicle and shut it off. I received a frantic phone call and responded to the location to find that a little more than half of the electric radiator cooling fan blades had desentigrated into pieces, cutting into the radiator. The vehicle is now inoperable and parked awaiting to be towed to the dealership on Monday. There were no previous warning signs of this event happening and am very glad my wife was not driving on the freeway when this happened as the outcome could have been much different. Looking online, this appears to have been a problem with this year make and model vehicle along with several others from Dodge. This is very dangerous and could have resulted in a much more serious incident had my wife been driving at higher speeds.

15 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 05/25/2016

While driving in rush hour traffic, the cooling system fan blades came apart and the shrouds of the fan went thru the radiator causing immediate leakage of all coolant and destroying the radiator. I almost got into an accident because of this. This caused loss of radiator coolant. Fans and radiator will have to be replaced along with coolant. According to Dodge, this has been recalled on some same vehicles (2008 Chargers) but mine has not been recalled or notified that this could occur. They stated in the attached document that they know they have installed a defective part that can cause future car damage, but won't do anything to fix it. I was refused since my VIN is not covered" by this notification, even though my car is in a warm climate state (florida) and my make, model, year of vehicle are exact to the described issue in the notification.

16 Cooling Fan problem of the 2010 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

Vehicle had a horrible start up sound. The engine constantly knocked and I told the shop they waited until I had to get it towed there. The engine went out and my warranty paid for it but they still Chargered me for things I asked them about like the termistat and the cooling fan. . . . The mechanic said they was not working but my car had not check engine light and went out on the interstate.

17 Cooling Fan problem of the 2007 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/17/2015

Problem #1: one of the cooling fan blades sheered off and & flew into the radiator. I was at a complete stop and broke off when I started to accelerate. I replaced the broken blade (didn't have enough money to replace both) and radiator. About a year or less later the other fan blade sheered off (the one I didn't replace) and went into the radiator. This time also during accelerating after a complete stop. Deja vu. This time I had to replace the entire fan assembly (because the blades were on backorder) and radiator. When I went to the Dodge dealership they said there was a recall on the same blades but only the 2006 model. Problem #2: it is now loosing propulsion. The power stays on it just stops moving forward. I can put it in park & then back in gear and it moves, but barely. It isn't consistent but it is terrifying. I have googled possible issues and it seems like a lot of people are having the same problem and they have linked it to a bad pcm. I took it to a mechanic but of course it didn't do it while he had it. I have been told, by Dodge, that they are the only ones that can do a full diagnostic, that other devices only cover about 30% of the program. That alone seems unfair if not illegal. I cannot afford $110 just to find out what's wrong. My trunk light doesn't work either & even Dodge can't find out why. It's not the bulb, it's not the fuse, and the electrical connection is good. According to them. I have more images and receipts but can't figure out how to attach them.

18 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/19/2015

Engine cooling fan became separated from fan housing and became lodged in radiator. The fan continued turning, causing radiator fan blades to break off and bounce around the engine compartment. The radiator dumped all coolant, and the engine overheated within moments. Dodge has issued a recall for a very specific sales code and date range of vehicles, and is denying the same recall to other owners experiencing the exact same problem. While the vehicle was being repaired, another Dodge Charger of the same year was in the shop for the same problem. Pictures have been taken of the incident showing the full extent of the damage.

19 Cooling Fan problem of the 2007 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 05/16/2015

Driving on city street speed limit 40mph car began overheating. In attempt to fix the overheating issue a new water pump and 2 new radiators have been installed. The initial radiator literally had the entire bottom fall out. The cooling fans will not come on and are damaged. It is my belief that the damage to the cooling fans is what caused damage to the radiator. I have been dealing with this issue for 3 years now driving another car if traveling more than 1 mile from my home. Obviously this is a problem caused by the manufacturerl.

20 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/12/2014

Cooling fan hit fan shroud breaking off a piece that hit the radiator. . This caused loss of radiator coolant. Fans and radiator had to be replaced along with coolant. According to Dodge forum this problem has been recalled on some same vehicles (2008 Chargers) but mine has not been recalled or notified that this could occur. Fortunately the car was at idle when this happened. No injury occurred. This is a design defect or part failure and owners should be compensated for towing and repair.

21 Cooling Fan problem of the 2007 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

On June 2, 2014 I was stopped at a stop light waiting to turn when I heard a loud bang followed by what felt like something falling out of my motor. Once I turned I turned off onto the service road to check what happened. My car immediatley began to over heat and my gage went from in between the cool range to hot range. I did not want to drive my car any further in order to prevent any unneccessary damages. I called my husband who then came to get me and check the problem. He noticed that the fans on the cooling system were not working. One completly locked which caused some of the fans to break and the other just stopped working. I looked on line to see if there were any similar occurances of this happening. I came upon Chrysler customer service notification l08, which implies that this problem has happened on over 55,000 vehicles. I contacted my local dealership and was had them look into it. According to the notification it states that only the severe cooling systems on 2006-2008 Dodge Chargers are having this occur. My vehicle is a 2007 Dodge Charger 3. 5 l v6 which is not covered under the customer service notification since it only carries the heavy duty cooling system. So my dealership will not cover the cost to fix the same problem occuring on like make and model vehicles. However, during operation my cooling locked and stopped working. I am unsure how many more vehicles have had this occur to them but upon researching it has and continues to occur.

22 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

I was driving down a street when all of a sudden my vehicle started to shake. I pulled over and found out the my cooling fan had broken off sending the blades into my radiator causing the system to loose coolant. I spent over 400 dollars for repairs. This is a common problem from what I red and I feel that I should be reimburse for the coat of the repairs and have Chrysler perform a check for any other damages it might of caused.

25 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I stopped my Dodge Charger in the gas station parking lot. I just finished washing my Charger and was on my way to a car show. I stopped at the gas station to wait for the rest of the people in my group. My girlfriend exited her vehicle and got into my car. I started my car back up to run the a/c. Within a few seconds of starting my car up, I heard a loud bang. I immediately turned my car off and exited my vehicle. As I got out of my vehicle, I observed a small stream of green fluid (antifreeze) running beneath my vehicle. I popped my hood and observed my radiator was damaged again. I also observed that my cooling fan was in pieces again. But this time it was my passenger side cooling fan. I had my car towed to the same body shop as last year and the mechanic there advised me to look into an recalls involving the cooling system of my car. He explained that it occurred the same way as the other fan did a year ago. At that time I saw a customer satisfaction notification l08 that involved Dodge Chargers 2006-2008. I read the notification and learned that my vehicle was not covered by this notification. My Dodge Charger was originally sold in florida and I bought it in florida. My Charger was manufactured on 10/10/2007 and my Charger is a 2008. I felt like my car was covered by this notification in several ways. But Chrysler claims that my VIN was not covered due to the sales code, even though the defect the notification mentioned was precisely the same.

26 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Charger. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph a loud popping and banging noise emitted from underneath the hood. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. The driver noticed that the fan assembly and radiator both fractured as a result of a large amount of antifreeze leakage. In addition, steam emitted from underneath the hood. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer issued a customer satisfaction notification related to the electronic power cooling fan. The reference was number l08. The VIN was not included in the customer satisfaction notification. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 182,000.

29 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 12/24/2012

On christmas eve, December 24th 2012 at approximately 1:45 in the afternoon I was driving my 2008 Dodge Charger on a busy intersection when all of a sudden I heard a loud banging noise from my engine compartment. After I heard the loud noise, my 2008 Dodge Charger immediately stopped and shut off in the middle of the busy intersection nearly causing a chain reaction multicar accident. A local police offer came to the scene and helped direct traffic until I was able to physically push my car out of heavy traffic. Once I was able to look under the hood I noticed a lot of coolant pouring to the ground. I also notice that there was no coolant in the coolant department. I contacted the local Dodge dealership, but unfortunately they were closed due to the holidays. Lucky I was able to bring my 2008 Dodge Charger to tire kingdom. The manager of tire kingdom identified the problem and stated that my cooling fan broke off causing the broken pieces of the fan to fly into my radiator which caused my radiator damage and left a hole in my radiator. Additionally I had to pay $571. 36 to repair my 2008 Dodge Charger and the day before christmas on top of that. I have full receipts for the repairs and I also have pictures of the broken fan and damaged radiator. . Read more...

30 Cooling Fan problem of the 2007 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/19/2012

My 2007 Dodge Charger was rendered inoperable when the engine cooling fan blades separated unexpectedly, causing severe damage to the radiator. This incident ultimately resulted in engine failure. When this incident was reported to the Chrysler group, the case manager was informed of a recall that addressed this same issue. Please refer to customer satisfaction notification l08 engine cooling fans. This notification cautions owners that the electrically powered radiator cooling fans on about 52,000 of the referenced vehicles (include 2007 Dodge Charger) may separate during fan operation and cause damage to the radiator. This exact failure occurred to my vehicle costing me in excess of $2000 but the Chrysler group refused to offer assistance due to the fact that my VIN fell outside of the range to the vins included in the recall and that my vehicle was out of warranty. I request that a the existing recall be expanded to all of the vehicles types listed within the 2006-2008 time frame instead of limiting to the 52,000 estimated in the notification. Updated 01/24/13.

31 Cooling Fan problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/21/2012

On June 21st of 2012, while my car was sitting in the parking lot running with my kids in the car, my a/c was running to keep them cool. It was over 100* outside and my kids needed to stay cool. I was out of my car for a matter of minutes and I heard a loud popping sound. As I turned to my car, I saw a large pool of antifreeze under my car. I turned my car off and turned my car into the body shop that I was parked in front of to fix it. They advised that my cooling fan fell apart and caused damage to my radiator. This required my to replace the cooling fan and the radiator. It only required me to replace the driver's side cooling fan at this time. I was unaware of aqny problems with the Dodge Chargers cooling fans at this time.

32 Cooling Fan problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/26/2011

My car was recalled for the cooling fans letting my car overheat. The dealer replaces the fans and the asks if I want him to fix my overheating issue. I thought that was why my cooling fans were the issue. It stopped overheating for a month maybe at most the I had to have a new radiator, t-stat, and water pump. Within a couple weeks on my way to my doctor the temperature guage dropped to 140 and died. I started it up and it has a quick knocking noise that seem to tick too quickly toto be a rod plus the car doesn't die. I turned it off after hearing the knocking and had it towed home. Now my brother is letting me drive his car and mine is a yard ornament.

35 Cooling Fan problem of the 2007 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 01/02/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Charger. On November 1, 2006, the vehicle was serviced for a basic oil change and filter at 3,600 miles. On January 2, 2007, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for basic maintenance, in which the contact requested a tire rotation because the tires were wearing very quickly. He was informed that the tires were rotated, balanced, and that the oil was changed. Two months later, the contact noticed that the tires continued to wear very quickly and the brakes were not stopping the vehicle properly. He went to a local tire store and was informed that the tires were placed on the vehicle incorrectly and that two different sized tires should have been installed. The contact returned to the dealer and they were supposed to provide new tires and brakes. They provided the tires and new front brakes, but no rear brakes. The dealer also failed to repair a rattling noise in the fan under the hood; however, they did not. Currently, the brakes lock sometimes and the fan still makes a noise as if leaves and sticks are under the hood. The contact has a 100,000 mile warranty, but was advised to take his vehicle to another dealer. The powertrain was unknown. The current mileage was 32,000 and failure mileage was 10,044.
