1 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

My steering wheel when turning left or right is becoming difficult to turn and makes squealing noise when turned. When brought to the dealership it was told to me that nothing was coming up wrong with the steering on the cpu. I was told I would have to wait until the steering pump goes to make any fixes. After research many of other 2014 Dodge Charger users have had issues with their steering wheel completely locking or losing any control of the steering while driving at high speeds.

4 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/15/2020

I was driving down the city street and as I went to turn the corner the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. It took all my strength and careful braking not to hit the car in the oncoming lane of traffic. I immediately took to a certified mechanic and they tell me the power steering pump is out. After doing a quick search online I find that this is a fairly common issue. It is so common of an issue that Dodge is in short supply of new power steering pumps with only like 3 in the state of florida at the time of this writing.

5 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/11/2020

Driving down the road at 58 mph and power steering went complety out! no warning at all! dash lights went crazy. Warning lights: service shifter, service power steering, auto park disabled, check engine, then dash lights started blacking completely out. Very dangerous! I took to my mechanic and he says that the power steering pump has been fired. After reading the altenator recall, thia explained everything that happened! all recalls have been fixed on this vehicle. After contacting local dealerships I learned that there are 89 people just in my area needing this same pump and it is on back order. This tells me that there is a huge problem. This is extremely dangerous! now $1800 to fix an issue that never should have happened with altenator recall completed. I now have a car that I am still paying for, cant drive, cant afford to fix, and wont sell to someone else knowing how dangerous this is. Please investigate this issue. I cant imagine that with all of the complaints I have seen that this is not an all consuming issue and puts many lives at risk.

7 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 12/25/2019

The vehicle when I purchased it 3 months ago has pretty low mileage and $79,000 on it well I noticed the whole time I heard a creaking sounding when I would turn the tires and then when I went to georgia because I live in tennessee for christmas and by the time I got back to tennessee I couldn't even turn my wheel and I guess the fuel pump went out in it but it's a new car and it's been taken really good care of I'm just wondering why the pump went out on it so fast when I was driving so fast I could wrecked and everything.

8 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

Power steering pump all of a sudden, just went out. Luckily I was parking my car at home.

9 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2013 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/04/2019

When driving, power steering randomly turns off and displays "service power steering system". It decided to shut off power steering midway through a right hand turn causing me to drive over the sidewalk and almost into a parked car in the parking lot on the other side of the sidewalk. This is absolutely ridiculous, I dont feel safe letting my kids ride in this car at all, especially since I never know when my power steering is just going to randomly stop working. I was so excited when I bought this vehicle because of all of the positive safety ratings, however, because of this issue, Dodge/Chrysler has lost all of my business. Especially when a new power steering pump is $1280 which is more than a complete motor for some cars. The lives of my children are worth more to me than they seem to be to Dodge. Unless Dodge can do a recall on this part and fix it, since I am not the only person who has had these issues, this car will be going to a scrap yard, im not willing to sell it to someone else and possibly have their lives on my conscience.

10 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

Alternator recall that matches exact issue, make (Dodge), model (charger), year (2014), and engine size of car (3. 6l v6). Alternator malfunction caused short circuit of hydro-electric power steering pump. Indicator lights began to flash and car would begin to stall while in operation until eventually dying completely. Alerted that VIN number was not part of the recall and had to have all work done at local mechanic.

Power steering goes out completely without warning , wasn't out of fluid completely but added some and went out again after , car was inspected and nothing is wrong with the pump or reservoir and shouldn't go out . It goes out while driving down the road then comes back on , does not make any noises or anything else , cannot turn and randomly comes on and off while driving.

14 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

So, I've had a problem with the electric p/s pump with it making grinding noises as I turn and locking up. I did end up replacing it because the dealer near me neglected to tell me there was a recall on it and wanted to charge me to fix it. The pump I replaced it with is starting to do it again. . . I want it replaced with a brand new oem pump.

15 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2012 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/18/2017

The power steering pump grinds when turning and sometimes locks up. This is the second time I've filed about this.

16 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/22/2017

I was sitting in my car in front of my house . I went to start the car then my dashboard was blinking with engine light ,battery light and brake light . Then suddenly I seen "service power steering " my wheel was extremely hard to turn . I took it up to the stealers to tell me it's a electrical pump issue that will cost me 2,000 dollars. This electrical issue came out of no where . After I reading different consumers testimony , I noticed this has been an ongoing issue with their steering pump . If I was out on the road and my steering where stopped on me , I could've been died . It should be a law suit filed on them . I would not recommend anyone to ever purchase anything from Dodge.

17 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2014 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/29/2016

I have been working with fca since 8/31/16, so for 28 days now, that I have been without power steering. I filed my first complaint on, or around 9/12/16. I experienced the exact same symptoms as stated in NHTSA pe14022 while driving down the highway at apporximately 65mph. Every warning light went off flashing, service transmission message, service power steering , and tach, and speedo would drop to zero , and I would lose engine power, and power steering. I captured the incident on video, and provided the video to NHTSA, I will again provide a link for the video here : https://youtu. Be/e96hvqpep10 . In dealing with fca llc, they refuse to replace the electric hydraulic power steering pump that was fried from this incident occuring. Fca is saying that it was the "2 year old mopar battery" that caused the incident, and refuse to replace the ehps pump that worked perfectly fine before this occured. I replaced the alternator per NHTSA recall no. 14v-634 a great deal of time prior to this incident occuring. Fca is trying to circumvent having to replace the pump by changing the origin of the means to the battery, instead of the alternator. I have been extremely frustrated with how fca refuses to acknowledge all of the proof given to them. I am not alone in this, there had been many complaints filed with similar results as mine in dealing with fca. It's time for NHTSA to do something to remedy this issue with fca. Fca offered to replace the $1400 ehps pump if I pay a $500 CO-pay, I refuse to accept this offer based on the principle of the matter. The true origin of all of the issue's I'm currently having, is from the original alternator that was in the car for a year and a half initially, and during that time it was improperly charging the battery that possibly caused the battery to ultimately fail on 8/31/16. Please see attached files. Failure mileage 81332.

18 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2013 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/18/2016

My steering wheel got locked up on a highway going about 55 mph it was so hard to turn the steering wheel but I managed to pull over , the abs, light came on and it said service power steering system, I turned the car off for about a minute then turned back on and it was back to normal, but a couple weeks later it's doing the same thing in my driveway but now it won't even turn on at all and it just says service power steering system, so I thought maybe the steering pump was bad so I purchased a used one on ebay installed it but still no luck it still wont turn on. . .

19 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

After filling tank 2006 Dodge Charger rt v8 stalled multiple times. First two still sitting at pump, next at intersection while turning right and also lost power sterering, next at parking space while straightening out. Serious safety hazard, especially at intersections or stalling in traffic. Found NHTSA pe13016 regarding this issue, but I see it is closed and was only issued to certain vins. All affected models should be covered for the tank replacement and associated 'float' and vapor purge valve.

20 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/28/2013

After filling gas tank, engine hesitates and/or stalls. I only fill up until the fuel pump automatically shuts off, I do not add any more fuel than that. This has happened almost every time I have filled up with fuel. Most of the stalling/hesitation occurs when coasting or decelerating (coming to a stop). This has created multiple very dangerous situations due to the engine not running and I have a loss of the power assist to the steering. Occasionally the engine has a difficult time restarting after the engine stalls. This will occur approximately 4-8 times after a fill-up of fuel.

21 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Immediately after fueling, the vehicle stalled while leaving the gas station and lost all belt driven components as a result - power steering, a/c, etc. The vehicle subsequently stalled several more times while driving, and exhibited labored acceleration in between. This was the first incident and has been repeated every time it was refueled until pump shut off since, regardless of different gas stations and fuels.

22 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

I bought my 2006 Dodge Charger r/t brand new in June of 2006. I always filled the tank with gas until the pump automatically shutoff. I never topped off with gas or continued filling the tank once the pump would automatically stop. This was never a problem for 5 years. Last year in October of 2011 at around 73,000 miles the car would stall and turn off the engine occasionally right after filling up in live traffic usually at a stop light or parking lot driveway. I would have to put the transmission shifter from drive to park since the vehicle shut off and restart the car with no problem. Today at 75,600 miles on March 27, 2012; I filled up as usual and the car engine turned off in traffic on 3 different occasions. I read on Chrysler owners' forums online this is a common problem with plenty of Chrysler vehicles and Chrysler is aware of it. The fix is a whole new fuel tank with a better fuel vapor valve and the cost would run $1300-$2000 for various car, van, and truck owners. The only other method I was advised by a Dodge service advisor was not to fill the car up all the way, perhaps to 3/4 of a tank full. This is dangerous for any driver when a car engine stops, steering locks, and there is traffic behind you. Some drivers will not know how to react in this situation. Chrysler should offer a recall to fix this problem with the gas tank instead of charging the owner.

23 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

Problem occurred and continues to occur after filling up the gas tank. First instance was in November 2010 and most recently December 2013. Car will stall numerous times until some amount of gas is burned off after driving. First instance occurred making a turn in front of a railroad track. Other instances have been on a freeway in heavy traffic causing me to have to pull over. Car can restart on the first re-attempt or take up to 4 attempts. Car will usually stall again seconds later. A workaround is not to fill up the tank all the way (to the auto shutoff of the gas pump) but this doesn't always work. This is with a 2006 Dodge Charger with a 5. 7 liter hemi. Chrysler denied the issue back in 2010 although the problem was starting to be documented on the internet at that time.

24 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/28/2007

The power steering rack inthe 2006 Dodge Chargerwas making a whinning noise and was very hard to steer. Brought it in to the certified dealership and was expected to pay $1200 to replace the power steering pump and rack. Thiswas absurd, the cars' warrant ywas 36000 miles, my car is at 39,000 miles. This was unfair, and after researching other consumers with the 2. 7 litre engine expierenced the same problem, this should be recalled. Instances of this problem have even resulted in death. I'm very upset.
