Dodge Dakota owners have reported 9 problems related to brake abs warning light (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have purchased several tires for this vehicle, and the problem is mainly in the the front. I have had it aligned as required and it continued to eat the tires in a very few months. I recently (withing the last 6 - 8 months) had the brakes, rotors, idler arm, bushings and other items replaced that dealt with the steering and the braking of this vehicle and it is doing the same thing again. When turning left or right, it will pop, and when pressing on the brakes it will grab, release then grab again. The brakes are not making a noise and I know when new brakes are installed that they have to allowed to maintain their fit, however, once they maintain their fit, they shouldn't start grabbing. When I have to press the brakes in a hurry the abs light comes on and it concerns me the vehicle will not stop in time. This has been a problem for the last 4 or 5 years.

Abs light wont even flash or give warning and truck slid a bit. No accidents to report, yet. This has happened multiple times after braking when the needle dips below 20 miles per hour. Thats why I give plenty of space between cars when approaching a light just in case the truck slides. I have complained but Dodge keeps telling me my VIN number has no recall for my abs ecu. There is a recall for abs ecu but not on my VIN number but I am having the same issue for the abs recall. So they will not replace it. You can feel the brakes lock up when it does it. Im also having a probem with my ignition swith. At times it will do a no start. That is also on the recall list but I was told again my VIN number wasn't on the list but I have these same problem for the recall. No one will replace these items if your VIN number isn't on the list even if your vehicle is having the problems reported for the recall. When something serious happens then who will be to blame. My VIN number was recalled just for airbags only. These problems need to be fixed ASAP before serious injuries may reslt.

My brake rotors constantly pulse very heavily when the brakes are applied. Steering is effected and the truck is hard to control when stopping. The abs light is constantly light up. I took the vehicle to a garage to check the abs brakes and they said the brakes were fine but they can not remove the light abs light. This will be my second time replacing my rotors since I bought the truck new. It has 85,103 miles today. I have had numerous problems with the brakes but not the rotors.

Defective brakes and rotors. There are many, many others just like myself going through the same problem. Either it is a portioning problem which the causes the majority of the braking weight to be absorbed by the front brakes which causes rotors to warp due to the self adjusting back brakes, which do not function properly. Or the fact that the front rotors are not sufficient to carry the weight of the v8 quads. . Read more...

While driving on road had to apply brakes suddenly to avoid hitting another vehicle. Abs lights came on, wheels locked up, and driver was not able to control vehicle. Contacted dealer, and was told that the brakes should fluctuate to maintain steering control.
Abs light keeps coming on. Whenever brakes are applied, the pedal continues to the floor. The vehicle takes awhile to stop. Does not happen all the time, intermittent. Has extended stopping distance. Taking vehicle to dealer to check.
