Owner of 2001 Dodge Dakota p/u, with wrangler st tires, at 10000 miles tires cracked around rim, goodyear store only adjusted the front ones, which he said were cracked. The rear, he called dry rotting, normal wear and tear. The front tires 8000 miles later are cracked. I called westchase tire and auto , in houston, texas and the store manager mentioned that it was strange that this had occured again. I checked the NHTSA site and found the same type of failures were being reported since several years back. I am positive that neither goodyear nor Dodge will fess up to any problems with these tires. I just hope that loss of lives do not occur before action is taken. I will have these tires replaced once more and see how long they will last this time.
Goodyear tires: I purchased a 2002 Dodge Dakota in June, 2002. From day 1, I had trouble steering. After 3 trips to the dealer, I learned today that the goodyear tires were defective. I was told to immediately get new tires. The goodyear dealer was unresponsive to my need. It was obvious that he did not want to deal with defective tires. I went immediately to a michelin (sp) dealer and purchased 4 new tires. The michelin folks could insert a car key fully inside splits that were in my tires. I found news reports of abc investigating goodyear but obviously this is not getting to the public, either through the media or dealers. No incident but only because I took the truck in for an oil change and again complained about difficulty keeping the truck on the road. This complaint is sent in hopes that an investigation will start. I was told that the tires were from a "bad batch". How many tires are in a batch and where are the other tires? please respond and let me know the appropriate actions to take. I was most fortunate because I drive 70 mph on interstate-10 daily. The oil change may have prevented an accident and perhaps my life. Respectfully, patricia hunter.
All four tires original equipment are cracking at the bead. Cracks are several inches long. Goodyear dealer says "heat cracking" and will replace at prorated value. If these tires were recalled per your website, I was never notified. Information is for paper trail.
Manufactor date of the tire is 2400, all tires failing at the outside one quarter away from the bead and it looks like dry rot and the crack is about one eight inch deep.
