While driving eastbound at approximately 70 mph, I heard a loud bang, a whooshing sound, and felt a sudden change in the handling of the vehicle. I pulled to the shoulder, and found that the entire inside and outside sidewalls of the right rear tire had shredded.

To whom it concerns: I am requesting that the dot NHTSA investigate the possibility of a tire sidewall separation or sidewall delamination of cooper tires (cooper tire & rubber company) model discoverer rtx, size p245/70r16, dot ut9h 2bm 1818. I purchased a set of 4 tires (discoverer rtx, 245/70r16) on November 14, 2018 for my 2003 Dodge Dakota. On December 9, 2018, I was driving on the highway for the first time since purchasing the cooper tires. I suddenly heard a noise similar to driving on grooved payment or rumble-strips. However, the roadway was smooth and clear. I pulled over immediately and checked the tires. The right-rear tire was torn (shredded) all-around between the tire shoulder and tread, resulting in two separate pieces. Upon further inspection, I found a portion of the side wall where the outer and inner sections were not adhered (or not glued) together like the rest of the tire. I am concerned that this tire was defective and that the other 3 tires may also be affected. Can you look into this to see if this tire should be recalled? I am concerned about the safety of these tires. Thank you.

I have a 2007 Dodge Dakota it had 1880 miles on it when the drivers side rear tire blew out near mile marker 38. 9 on route 80 east bound in NJ. I was in the middle lane going 65 miles an hour when the outside sidewall of the tire developed an approximately two inch vertical split. The tire went down immediately, however I was able to get over to the shoulder without further incident. Aaa sent a truck out and installed the spare. The tire was a goodyear wrangler sr-a p245/70r-16. The dealer that I purchased the vehicle from referred me to goodyear. I went to three goodyear tire stores and I was told that it was caused by a sidewall intrusion, and goodyear would not replace the tire. I e-mailed goodyear a complaint however I have not heard back from them. I had the tire replaced at the third goodyear tire store at a cost of $161. 11. I kept the defective tire. I had checked the air pressure that morning before leaving home. There was no damage to the tire at that time, and non occurred that day prior to the incident. I was in the center lane of a major highway when it blew. The tire had less than 1900 miles on it at the time of the blow out and the tire was not damaged prior to the incident. It is beyond belief that goodyear would not warranty this tire, and it is even harder to believe that they do not even have any interest in looking at it.
I bought the 04 Nissan maxima in December 2004, and in September . 2005 I took the car to have the tires rotated. I was informed by the local goodyear tire dealer that two of the tires had cracks in the sidewalls. Because the car had only 10,000 miles goodyear replaced these two tires under the original warranty. Now, in 2007 with 40,000 miles on the car the other two original tires have sidewall cracks. Of course goodyear will only give me credit for the wear left on the tires , and a new tire cost $300. We have decided for safety reasons we were not going to replace these tires with the goodyear eagle size 245/45r18v. This seemed to be a similar problem as Ford and firestone had with the explorer several years ago. Why has the public not been informed about the Nissan/goodyear tire problem. My conclusion was fewer of us own missing than fords. So, if the tires cause a couple of us to have wrecks that was just the price of doing big business.
Sidewall failure of goodyear wrangler 265/70r17 rt/s tire. While driving 70 mph, the sidewall of tire blew out. The tire had only 41000 miles of mostly highway driving. Tread wear was very even with no uneven wear of any kind. I had stopped for gas only 7 miles before the failure, and inflation of tire appeared normal.

: the contact stated while traveling 55mph, the left front tire blew out without warning. The sidewalls shredded on each side. The dealership has not been alerted. The manufacturer of the tire is goodyear. The brand name is wrangler.
The sidewalls on the front tires split on the outside and inside . I found the defect myself. Replaced the tires. I still have the old ones. The truck had only a little over 12k miles on it. The dealer blew me off.

While driving my 2003 Dodge Dakota pick-up on the expressway my rear left drivers side tire had a blowout. Upon stopping and inspection, the tire had a side blowout with only 15,775 miles of wear. This tire came with the vehicle when I purchased it new in April 2004. I did not hit anything on the roadway and was driving the speed limit of 55mph. I had been driving for about 25 minutes on the expressway when the blowout occurred. I still have the tire and am concerned that this was caused by a defect which caused the side tire blowout.
Flat tire. Side wall has slits right next to the rim of the wheel. After obtaining a flat tire I had my garage man check the other 3 tires and they all were the same , with slits in the sidewalls. Unsafe to drive on.
Defective goodyear tires, sidewall bloo out.

Significant sidewall cracks noticed above the rim on three tires (fourth tire new after replacement from blowout two months ago). Wrangler st 215/75r/15. Tires have 30k miles and two years old. Goodyear store manager in college station TX said there is no safety issue with our removing tire from rim and inspecting inside of sidewall. Refused to consider problem as manufacturing defect. Did offer pro-rated replacement as warranty issue. Z8jb.
Tires, gooyear wranglers. Coming apart on the sidewall about 1/2 inch from the rim. First set were replaced and the problem persists with these new ones as well. Am I to expect a blow out to get some attention to this potentially dangerous situation.
Dear sirs, I have attaches a copy of the note I sent to goodyear rubber company in regards to the tires on my vehicle. It sounds suspiciously like a problem that firestone had and may result in accidents. I thought I would let you know as well for your database. I have 3 out of 4 goodyear wilderness tracker tires that are factory tires on my Dodge Dakota that have 2-4 inch splits on the sidewall next to the bead. Some are on the outside but some are on the inside sidewall. The goodyear dealer offered me 40 $ off a 120$ replacement tire . The tires have 27,000 miles on them. Not only is that unacceptable for an obviously defective tire but I did not want more of the same tire. I discovered this problem as I had 2 rear tires going flat with no foreign objects in the tread. The goodyear rep stated that he had seen this problem before so it is obviously a manufacturing defect and is unsafe. While I doubt goodyear will offer me any reimbursement I thought you should be aware of the problem and I will be contacting Dodge and the NHTSA with my concerns as well . It would be quite disastrous if the tire separated from the bead while at interstate speeds. Tim fultz. . . .
While driving consumer noticed that vehicle was swaying back and forth. Consumer pulled over, and noticed that driver's rear tire blew out from the sidewall and was cracked open. All four tires had stress marks located on the sidewall. Goodyear, wrangler st, p215/75r15, dot# m6hfeywr348 . Second set, p215/75r15, dot # m6hfeker3800. The consumer had the same problem twice. The sidewall on all four tires split.
Cracks on sidwall of right rear tire was 18 inches long, and was circling the rim of tire at least 1/4 inch deep. Tire remained inflated. On two front tires, cracks were near the rim of sidewall and still inflated. Had checked tires after returning from trip. Taken to tire retailer, and tires replaced on prorated basis. Goodyear, wrangler, p215/75r15 with 9,028 miles.
Sidewall separation at bead of tire!!!. (tiresize: 215/75r15).
I experienced two tire failures, six months apart, on my original equipment tires. Both instances I was travelling on paved roads about sixty mph. I had some camping gear in the pickup bed, but by no means an excessive load. In each instance I felt a slight wobble, then experienced a tire failure. The sidewalls were completely shredded on at least one side. In the first instance I went to a les schwab dealer in lakeview, oregon (only dealer nearby). Their person said it looked like a tire failure. I brought it back with me to my hometown of kennewick, wa, and took it to an authorized goodyear outlet to request an adjustment for the fire. They told me it looked like it was a road hazard problem(I must have hit something), and said it wasn't their problem. I left it at that, except to write goodyear at an address in my owners pamphlet outlining my warranty. I described the incident, expressed by disappointment, but neither asked for nor received a reply. The second failure six months later on another of the same tires I thought was a little much, so I purchased a new set of tires. I did not contact goodyear again as I did not expect any response based on not receiving any last time. Luckily, even though both tires failed completely, I was able to stop my vehicle in a controlled manner with no injury or damage. This information is provided to you in case you receive notification of a number of similar failures in like goodyear tires. Thank you. (dot number: m6hfekwr20 tiresize: p215/75r15).
2000, Dodge Dakota quad cab with original tires. Set of tires on vehicle have cracks on sidewall below the rim. Goodyear store will prorate the tires, size p215/75r15, dot#m6hfekwr1000. The cracks were on inside and outside of the tires. The tire dealer says the cracks were due to the ozone layer.
I lost control with the first tire separation and ran over two signs ending up in a ditch. (dot number: w2hfat5287 tiresize: p215/75r15).

The sidewalls of all 4 of my wrangler st tires are failing at the seams, and at the same time. The service manager at my goodyear store called it "flow cracking" and said "that is not good". The tires are original to the truck installed during it's production. The following is additional information found on the tires: dot m6hf fkwr 258, there is a number and letter, e13 enclosed by a circle, another number located on tire is t302962-gpf-95-mms , there is a number 100s and the letters bs, another number is 026951 m+s, goodyear is replacing the tires under the warranty on a prorated basis as a result of this defect in the tire. The local goodyear store is edwards auto service center 13936 jeff-davis hwy woodbridge va 22191, 703 494-7181. Fax 703 494-5140, they said it'd be a week before the replacements arrive. I submit this as the start of any paper trail should this goodyear tire defect, be a prelude to a situation as occurred with firestone and the Ford explorer. (dot number: m6hf tiresize: p215/75r15).
All four tires that were factory installed on 1999, Dodge, Dakota are splitting right on seam of sidewall near the rim. These tires have approximately 31,000 miles on them, and consumer noticed splitting right before 30,000 miles. Tire size is p215/75r15, dot # is m6hffkwr258. Goodyear center said that defect was a result of flow cracking.
The tire failed on the inside side wall with a sudden blow out leaving a 4" vertical hole. The goodyear dealer blamed it on a road hazard although I never hit anything in the road, the failure appeared to be on a seam of the tire. To date the manufacturer or dealer haven't resolved the issue. . (tiresize: 31x15)( dot number: tire size: 31x15 ).
On 7 oct 2000, I noticed that there was an outer sidewall separation on the right front (drivers side) tire (goodyear wrangler st ) of my 2000 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. The separations consisted of 3-4 splits that were separated by distance. The splits were from 2-3 inches longs and the depth of my fingernails or perhaps 1/8th of an inch. The separations were on the portion of teh tire, right above the steel tire rims and are arranged in a circular pattern. The tire appeared to have a small lump on its sidewall. The tire had about 12,000 miles on it at the time. I notified goodyear customer svc at the corporation, chrsyler corporation (corp file #7828657), chesterfield Dodge, midlothian, va (where I purchased teh truck during June 2000) and the gemini goodyear auto shop, harbour drive, midlothian, va. The gemini goodyear auto shop replaced the tire on 10 oct 2000. I notified goodyear corporation and chrsyler corporation that I preferred all tires to be removed and replaced with a brand other than goodyear wrangler st. It appears to me that all tires on my truck might be from the same manufacturers lot number and could be a potential source of problems. I can be reached at home at 804-739-1572 or at work 804-786-6627. My name is william h. Fennell (tiresize: p215/75r15)( dot number: tire size: p215/75r15 ).
Sidewalls have split on all four tires which came new with the truck, two were so bad you could see the inner sidewall. The garage failed the truck on inspection, said the tires were a safety hazard. I did not misuse these tires no 4-wheeling, no heavy loads, no constant long distance travel; work was 10 miles one way. My mother spent a great deal of time on the phone with goodyear and sullivan tire (the name goodyear gave us as their authorized dealer). There was no satisfaction because goodyear and sullivan insisted they could only pro-rate the tread on a replacement. The tread was not the problem!!! all four tires should have been replaced free of charge because they were a safety hazard. My mother paid $431. 71 for four new tires, which is less than $100 under the price sullivan would have charged for four new tires. The tires should have been free of charge! I see from the complaints already submitted that this is an on going problem with these tires. Goodyear insisted they had received no other complaints on this tire. They obviously lied. Dt.
At 8,000 miles one of the tires went flat. The vehicle was taken to the tire dealer which found all four tires (goodyear wrangler st p215/75r15) had cracks in the tire wall. The tires were replaced with the same brand of tire. Now the driver front and rear tires have cracks in the tire wall. The consumer filed a complaint with Dodge #11259201.
