1 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2021

Parking brake on my 2013 Dodge Dart 1. 4l turbo limited does not hold my vehicle in place. I have adjusted the cable several times and have replaced both rear calipers. I have noticed that the parking brake mechanism gets stuck in the loaded/parked position and will not return to it resting position. I have had to apply lubricant to it and manipulate back and forth to free it, after doing this I had to adjust the cable under the console. My car is a manual 6 speed transmission and it would nice to have a parking brake that would not have to adjust constantly.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

The rear brake caliper / parking brake is corroding to the point of inoperability. We have already had Chrysler replace the rear caliper that was affected the first time, but it is now again sticking due to corrosion and rust. There is no protection to prevent salt and road debris from entering the bore of the shaft that engages the parking brake mechanism in the caliper. The car's parking brake lever will engage but the parking brake will activate. The car will continue to roll back (manual transmission). Other times, the parking brake will be activated by the lever, engage and will stick on, and cause the rear brakes to overheat when I drive away.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2020

The rear brakes are locked up and wont release. The first time the calipers had to be changed out. This happened with in the first 3 years. This most recent time they locked up again I have not yet taken it in to the shop yet but it feels like the same problem and it has only been 3 years or so since they were last changed. The car only has about 40 thousand miles on it. This is a major safety problem. This could cause the brakes to catch on fire or even cause an accident. This really needs to be addressed.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem

The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact was to repair the vehicle and when a recall come out he could get reimbursed. The failure mileage was 64,197. Aw.

6 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

Emergency brake fail. . . Calipers no good. . . Very dangerous.

7 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2019

While driving and shifting through an intersection I was no longer able to shift into gear. I was stuck in gear. 2 weeks prior my parking break would not engage, as the break caliper was stuck open.

8 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2019

The 2013 Dodge Dart has issues with the rear brake calipers. When I disengage the parking brake the rear calipers do not release pressure causing the rear brakes to drag. This is not only my vehicle, I have read online people having similar issues. For me to fix this problem I would have to get new rear calipers. I personally believe this is a manufacturer problem. On the back side of the caliper is a spring which the parking brake connects to I had to disengage this myself. Causing me to not be able to use my parking brake.

9 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

I had took my car to Chrysler in biddeford in may 2017 c/o that my e-brake was not holding my car. Once I got the car back I could hardly lift the brake. I went back in and asked why it was that way, they stated that it would loosen up as I use it. I used the brake a couple of months later and it went up about an inch. The next time I used it was in February and when I pulled up on the brake level it went straight up. I called and left numerous vm. No one called me back. I went back in on a Saturday for my oil change. I talked to a rep there and they stated that they would leave a note for someone to call me back on Monday. I never received a call back. I finally got someone to make an appt for me to bring my car in. Once they found out I no longer had the b to b warranty they stated that I would have to pay almost $500. I called and left a msg for the gm and I got a call back from the sales manager wanting me to traded my car in. I stated to him I thought he was calling about the brake. He stated to bring it in and they will put it on the lift while I talk to sales. The rep came back and stated do you know that your brake does not work. Made an appt for a diagnostic which I had to pay for and they ordered a part for my car. I had to take my car back to be looked at bill Dodge and they stated that my brake was not working and that my calipers where sticking. I brought the car back in and they stated I needed one of my calipers changed. I stated I just changed one this summer make sure you get the right one. I picked up my car and took my car to my friend in nh. His mechanic again stated that my brake was not fixed and that the e-brake is causing the calipers to stick. I got my car back and a week later (03/01/2019) I was in an accident where a car hit my driver's door doing about 35+. My air bags never went off. I have 4 airbags and not one went off. Other cars did.

10 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2018

E brake locked up at rear caliper. Similar to NHTSA id number 11109809,.

11 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2018

Parking brake (emergency brake) caliper failure rear right. 33,062 miles. Within last week or so handle is much easier to pull up. Now, when engaged you feel left side of car goes up and right does not (lopsided). Yesterday, I was driving on a level street and loud clunking noise came from right rear wheel area. Called Chrysler Dodge hotline today and told it was not in the brake caliper recall. I made prior complaints to dealer that the emergency brake would pop out and roll and it was dismissed that I was not pulling up brake properly, but I was. Chysler saw there were only a few complaints (46) regarding the brake calipers for my VIN so it is not in a recall.

12 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

The 2013 Dodge Dart with the 1. 4l turbo engine was a vehicle made that was made in murphy's law (everything that could go wrong, will go wrong). Since purchasing this used vehicle in 2016 with 43,000 miles on the engine I have had multiple occurrences of mechanical problems. The first issue I have had was the turbo. I had to have the turbo replaced under warranty (common issue). Then, multiple instrument gauge failures. Next, several clutch problems (clutch sticking to the floor even when driving). This issue was not fixed as the dealer does not believe this to be an issue. If researched it will show that this is a common problem thousands have with this vehicle. Then, next set of issues began with multiple caliper seizings. The car was taken to a mechanic other than the dealership. They determined that these parts were faulty and suffered from a recall that effected several cars. When calling customer care for Dodge. They refused to do anything because my VIN was not involved with that specific group of cars. I paid for the repair out of pocket and then suffered through two additional caliper failures. All repairs out of my own pocket. This is also another common issue. Now, I am currently going through a valve cover gasket failure on a vehicle that has been maintained at 75,000 miles (common issue). Now that I am out of warranty on a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. Dodge claims to have started the warranty in 2012 on a 2013 year vehicle. This vehicle should be listed as one of the most dangerous, expensive, and poorly made vehicles to exist. All of these issues have occurred while driving on a highway almost causing me to crash several times. Through Dodge-dart. Org you will see several dangerous and negligible choices made by fiat Chrysler and how dangerous this car can be to the public. I believe Dodge should offer an extended warranty up to 10 year/200,000 miles.

13 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2018

Parking brake failure at 42k miles. Parking brake on rear wheels seems to have stuck in caliper and does not engage. When pulling back on parking brake handle in car, there is little or no resistance. Driver's side rear brake pads wore more quickly than any other pad and were almost down to metal on inspection / replacement. All other pads had 1/3 to 1/2 of the pads remaining on other brake assemblies. The vehicle is parked on a slight incline in a driveway at residence and began rolling back after engaging parking brake. Vehicle now must be set in reverse (stick shift) and parked on flat ground. Parking brake no longer has any braking power to hold vehicle in place and prevent it from rolling. Parking brake cable seems free to move back and forth. Brake caliper assembly with a rotational came parking brake engagement seems stuck and hard to move in caliper. Normal braking from use of the brake pedal seems unaffected, just parking brake. Attached image shows the caliper removed and the area circled of where the parking brake cable attaches to the caliper parking brake assembly.

14 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

The emergency brake function on the rear brake calipers on the manual version of the 2013 Dodge Dart 1. 4l multiair turbo seize over time. It happened first with my back right rear caliper. I was driving after having parked using the emergency brake. The car was pulling hard to the right and was resisting acceleration. I pulled over to find my back right wheel smoking and the rotor red hot. The event was dangerous. I had the car towed to my local autoshop and they informed me that there was galvanic corrosion on a spring that was intended to release the emergency brake when disengaged. They informed me that this wasnt the first time that they had seen this on this model of car, and that I should expect for it to happen on the opposite assembly as well. I did not have the money to replace both at the time, so I only replaced the damaged caliper, rotor, and pads. Slightly over one year later, the exact same thing happened to the other assembly. I attempted to fix it myself. To my surprise, upon getting underneath the car and comparing the two brake assemblies, the assembly that had been replaced was visibly different. There appears to be a coating on the release spring. To me, this signifies that Dodge is aware of the issue and has made a revision, however there is not a recall in place. Considering the importance of brakes and the significance of the emergency brakes to manual vehicles, I consider this unacceptable. I have searched for recalls and not found any, and I have reached out to my local Dodge dealer where I purchased the car only to be told that without a recall, there is nothing they can do.

15 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Dart. The contact stated that the vehicle rolled away without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear calipers were defective and needed to be replaced. After further investigation, the contact was informed of NHTSA campaign number: 13v124000 (parking brake); however, the VIN was not associated with this campaign. The three rivers dealer was contacted and refused to perform any work until being compensated. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

16 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

The parking brake in the caliper failed to release with the disengagement of the parking brake on the driver's side rear brake. The result was that the rotor was super heated and after just 5 minutes, was glowing red. This started parked in my driveway, through my town to work. All in town on city streets. The car is currently at the dealership, calipers are back ordered.

17 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2016

Parking brake has been inoperable in lieu of galvanic corrosion on the rear brake caliper. The steel spring located at the rear brake calipers which regulates the operation of the emergency brake or parking brake has seized with its rotating armature. This started happening over a year ago and as of two months ago has completely seized. I first changed the rear brake rotors and pads in hopes that would fix the problem however, it only caused the rear emergency brake caliper to not release while driving. I had to pull over to the side of the road and completely release all of the parking brake tension through the handle adjustment bolt. Then I had physically push and pull the vehicle back and forth at which point the rear brake pads slowly released. I could not get the brakes to re-engage after, and have since discovered the spring assembly is seized on the rear calipers for the parking brake.
