Air Bag Problems of Dodge Durango - part 2

Headrest exploded while I was driving. Hit me in the head. Gave me a concussion. Dealership says there is no recall. I have to pay out of pocket. This is a safety feature. I am not paying for the repairs.

Sitting at drive through and driver headrest exploded and hit me in the back of the head. Thank god I was not moving at the time and my car was in park or I may have wrecked! startled me and I was dazed and confused because I couldn’t figure out what had happened! this just happened a few hours ago so I have not been able to report it or have it checked out. I did take several pictures. There were no warnings or anything and it just happened as I was sitting there! if I had been driving, it could have been catastrophic! my neck is sore and I have a headache.

Front driver’s side headrest separated while parked. Dealer confirmed. They reported it deployed. No warning lights before or after incident.

Vehicle was sitting, not driven and parked for a couple days, got into the car and the saw the front passenger headrest airbag had deployed. Vehicle has not been in an accident or been damaged.

Headrest deployed under normal driving conditions.

Vehicle was parked and engine off. The driver’s side head restraint deployed suddenly and almost hit me in the face. When I looked inside, the plastic hooks that hold a metal pin in place had broken off.

Passenger occupant detection system is faulty. Airbag service system indicator light comes and goes. The vehicle has been seen by an independent service center and they say this is a common issue with Dodge and thus issue should be covered by Dodge.

Driver side headrest deployment.

1. I had just entered my 2015 Dodge Durango citadel and shut the driver side door when the driver side headrest safety restraint burst open unexpectedly hitting the back of my head and thrusting it forward. Thus far, I have suffered muscle pain and soreness requiring an x-ray and some medications. 2. I had not yet started the engine. The car was sitting still in the parking lot and it was not running when the incident occurred. It frightens me thinking how bad this could have turned out had I been driving down the interstate at 70 mph or if one of my grand daughters had been sitting in that seat. 3. Post incident my husband drove the vehicle to the dealership where it was purchased, they removed the headrest and informed him Dodge had issued an extended warranty on the headrest so there would be no charge (the headrest is still at the dealership). They had to order a new headrest however, they sent him home driving the Dodge Durango with a disabled airbag system (unsafe). This has been a known issue with Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge since 2010 and there has been no recall. 4. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone. I have notified my insurance company and Dodge customer service. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the incident. 5. I have a call in to the dealership requesting a loaner vehicle to drive as mine is unsafe with a disabled airbag system.

Driverside front headrest just popped for no reason. Loading kids in SUV and it just popped, March 8th 2023 no reason or explination I contacted crysler corp they told me there is nothing they can do to help me and that its not covered they can give a price on a new headrest.

While on my way to an appointment it was raining and I noticed my car wasn't handling the water on the road like it usually did. It was pulling to one side or jumping around when it hit shallow water. I turned the traction control off and then back on and that seemed to make a difference. That night I got on NHTSA and searched for recalls with my VIN number. While other 2018 Durango's had recalls on the esp it said mine wasn't one on them. About a week later it had been storming all night and I was on my way to work the next morning when I come around a curve to deep flowing water covering the road for approx. 30 yards before a small break and then a thin flowing of water for approx. 20 feet which I didn't see because it was still raining. When I hit the deep water it pulled me towards the right ditch, I was able to keep from going in the ditch but it was a constant fight until I was through the puddle. After the first puddle let go of my vehicle there was just enough time for me to feel relieved I had made it through it before I hit the shallow water and my car hydroplaned darting left, entering the ditch, ramping the side of a driveway and going airborne between two trees before coming down on it's front end and sliding 30 feet to a stop. The emergency contact system spoke asking who to contact but none of my ice was displayed. Thankfully I was wearing my seatbelt although the tensioner didn't lock the belt in place like it should in the event of an accident. Also neither front airbag deployed, only the passenger side air curtain deployed. My passenger side mirror was hit by a mailbox as I ramped the driveway so I assumed that is why the side curtain deployed but the accident crushed and partially removed both my front and back bumper so my 2 front air bags should have deployed as well. An accident report was made and my insurance company ruled my car as a totaled. I told them what happened but I am not sure if the inspected the esp system or not.

Engine light on for to evap leak. Airbag warning light on and off periodically throughout drives.

The passenger head rest popped/exploded and juts forward and will not close back. I was advised that it is an airbag recall issue. However after checking my VIN nothing is shown listed here. On a google search it says there is a ten year unlimited mile recall.

The contact owns a 2021 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph and turning off an exit veering to the right when the vehicle began reducing in speed and the vehicle was displaying numbers counting down on the dashboard. The contact pulled to the side of the road where they turned the vehicle and waited approximately 5 - 10 minutes before turning the vehicle back on and driving to the dealer. The dealer was unable to reproduce the failure therefore they were unable to diagnoised the cause. The vehicle had not been repaired. Approximately 3 weeks after while driving approximately 40 mph when attempting to go on a round about when the vehicle the vehicle began the displaying the count down on the dashboard. The contact attempted to apply the brakes however the vehicle continued to accelerate forward causing the contact to drop into the center of the round about. The air bag failed to deploy and the contact hit their head onto the steering wheel. The contact also received whiplash and medical attention was needed. The contact was injured from neck down their back. The vehicle was towed and deemed totaled. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,722.

I keep receiving error messages on my vehicle, I spoke to a dealership and they stated that there is in fact for a recall.

Air did employ when it hit a deer at 35 mph , inside light go so dim on the radio and the front, you see the dashboard or the radio.

Air bag light came on and car constantly loses power even though the battery installed is new direct from dealership. Recurring situation happens at least twice a week.

Car was parked and off when the passenger headrest airbag deployed. No one was in the vehicle during the incident. The driver and passenger seat belt guide are cracked.

#1 the word " air bag ! " notification would display on dashboard, #2 an "sos" message on radio screen. #3 red light on rearview mirror at or near emergency button. This would occur intermediately at start up, and or during driving at times. Vehicle was dropped off Wednesday, October 12, 2022 and is currently at "bill snethkamp Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram" 16400 woodward Ave, highland park, mi 48203 where I was told that it has a seatbelt issue which can cause airbag issue, and due to safety concern, my vehicle will have to stay. .

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the fuel tank spilled gasoline to the vehicle. The fuel also leaked onto the driveway while the vehicle was parked. Additionally, the vehicle lost motive power while driving with the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle had previously been repaired under NHTSA campaign numbers: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline), 15v313000 (air bags), and 16v352000 (air bags). The failure mileage was approximately 152,000.

Driving down the road around 35mph and front passenger active headrest deployed out of nowhere. Luckily my daught wasn't taller than what she is or it would have impact the backnof her head.

Durango was t-boned on driver's side. Durango was turning left into a parking lot from a county road. Tahoe was going 50-55+mph in the same lane and direction as Durango. Durango put on left turn signal, slowed down to ~10mph, and turned left towards parking lot. At the same time, tahoe sped up behind Durango, tahoe tried to pass Durango on the left. Tahoe collided with left side of Durango, pushing it 30+ feet into the ditch. Tahoe drivers airbag deployed. No airbags deployed in the Durango. The driver of the Durango smashed head/face into door column, causing concussion, whiplash, contusion to forehead/eyebrow requiring 8 stitches.

The vehicle was running, in "park", sitting in the driveway. My 17-year-old son was in the passenger seat. The headrest airbag deployed without any provocation of any kind. No movement in the vehicle, and it was not in motion, there was certainly no collision. The exact same thing happened on the driver's side 3 years ago, while I was sitting in the driver's seat, in the driveway, with the vehicle running and also in "park". The force of the deployment from either of these incidents was not enough to warrant an injury or a headache, but does elevate a safety concern until it is repaired. There were no warning lamps that came on prior to deployment, it was a complete surprise on both occasions.

Service airbag system, service antilock brakes, service transmission, service shifter suddenly appear. Ater pulling over and turning it off the car went dead. Just spent $1500 for a new computer and two days later I have service airbag system. I have videos of the chaos. If this car is in an accident the airbags will not go off and passengers will be unprotected. The electrical issues in this car are beyond comprehension. Chrysler needs to take responsibility before it causes a catastrophic injury. The behavior of this vehicle is unacceptable and unsafe.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v352000 (air bags) and 05v034000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the failure occurred after the recall repairs were performed. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the dashboard was damaged, and the passenger's side air bag compartment was opened. Additionally, fuel was spilling out of the filler tube while refueling the vehicle. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 215,000.

No lights on the dashboard were on but the radio/ climate control center screen was flashing. Shut screen off. Was involved in motor vehicle accident with front end collision. Police report and insurance notified. Air bags did not deploy. Approximate speed on impacted was 30mph. Two days prior the auto stop and start system was flashing on dashboard.

The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango. The contacts stated while driving at 40 mph, the front driver’s side headrest deployed inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact sustained pain on the neck and a headache. The contact did not seek medical assistance. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall associated to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,340.

While driving with my wife sitting in passenger seat, the headrest safety deployed for no reason. This occurred under normal driving conditions. There was no impact or collision which would have caused the deployment.

Airbag warning light comes on and off when vehicle is moving or when vehicles is in park. It’ll take off at times but will re-appear randomly.

My passenger side airbag will not activate. It shows a passenger side airbag off.

I'm getting a airbag light coming on say system malfunction.
