Failure Date: 03/28/2025

I was driving home and felt steering wheel shake while on curved road, brakes felt like they wanted to lock up, then everything on dash lighted up looked like a shortage. My foot was still on the gas pedal then car just slowed down by itself. I had to steer vehicle to side of road. I did not panic, I was fearful something could’ve happened if I would’ve had other vehicles behind or even oncoming traffic. My vehicle is available for inspections upon request. Took my vehicle to a Dodge dealership for inspection and I was advised of a recall on my vehicle. Unfortunately, I was advised by the Dodge dealership that no remedy was yet available for my vehicle. I also contacted the manufacturer and they advised me the same as dealership, maybe during the first quarter of 2025 there could be a remedy. The manufacturer stated they would prioritize my case but no specific date could be given. I was given an option for a rental and due to my circumstances I would not be able to afford a rental. (I have to continue payments on my loan & vehicle insurance. ) I purchased the vehicle from dyer Chevrolet vero beach, I did reach out (on 3/31/2025) and asked them why was vehicle sold if there was a stop sale. Salesperson “ cameron andrews” stated “stop sale was not in effect at time of purchase [xxx] and it came out after the fact”. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle fitted with optional high-performance brembo brakes as part of the tow-n-go package. Front calipers are seized at just over 40k miles. Passenger side pads worn 1/4" more than drivers side. Luckily did not cause an accident however this seems to be a very common problem with these brakes if you google it, many similar reports. Vehicle barely 4 years old. $5k+ repair bill at a Dodge dealer for new calipers, discs and pads and Dodge won't cover it under (now expired) warranty even though the uneven pad wear was missed at last service (so much for safety inspection).

Nhtsa recall no. 23e-019 covers the replacement of defective hydraulic control unit / anti-lock brake system part no. 68085397ab built with a julian date code between 8166 and 9106. Bullet point number 6 in the 'chronology' of 23e-019 states "suspect service parts were not used in vehicle production". I disagree. While in the dealership for recall no. 22v-426 to re-program hydraulic control unit / anti-lock brake system parts no. 68085397ab and 68442478ab, I was told both those parts are now bad and need replacing. The hydraulic control unit / anti-lock brake system part no. 68085397ab taken off my vehicle has a date code of 8201. This is within the defective date range that was not supposed to be used in vehicle production. We bought the car new and it's never been in for any brake related work. The dealership says our VIN is not on the list of covered vehicles so we paid $1,578. 41.

I was coming home. As I pulled in my garage, hit the brake to stop and put in park. The vehicle started winding up to a point where my foot on the brake didn't matter. It accelerated forward, going through the wall of my garage, through my backyard, thru a chain guard, and into the corner of the museum wall next door. I was finally able to stop it completely by shutting the vehicle off. Despite the speed and impact to the front of my vehicle, the airbags never deployed.

The vehicle was taken to the Dodge dealer service, where they installed a computer to diagnose the issue. During their test drive, the same problem occurred, with the brakes not working. However, nothing registered on the computer. They bled the brakes, replaced the rear rotors, and returned the vehicle. Unfortunately, the same issue happened again. The center hate led brake light has water in it and shorted out making visibility of the rear of the vehicle hard to see at night. Dealer told me this is a very common issue and wants over $1000 for me to order another. Dodge needs to fix this and make it right as it's a design issue. The race track lighting on the vehicle which is the back lights has a factory defect and fills with water from rain and shorts out. Now my lights do not work and can also cause my brake lights and other lights to fail or cause an electrical fire. God forbid. This is a known problem but Dodge has not made it a recall yet and should. The part is 1200 without installation.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/15/2024

On my 2017 doge Durango rt the “racetrack” light has failed and created a safety issue for my vehicle. The led light on the hatch has failed from poor manufacturing and has allowed water it get into the light shorting out the whole taillight. This has not only made a running light not work while I’m driving, but has caused the license plate light and the rear backup camera to fail. This is an over 1000 dollar repair. I will replace it for the safety of my family and those who drive on the roads with me. I have seen many other Dodge Durango of the same model years that have a similar problem. There is a large online community who report the same issue. I hope this issue has not caused an accident for anyone else.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/21/2023

I had a water pump go out and my battery died while fixing it but when I gave it a jump and started it my abs and stability lights were on and haven’t turned off. It’s been over a year since they turned on. There is a recall for this on 2022 models why does it not apply to my vehicle?.

33 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/15/2023

The rear light bar in my vehicle has repeatedly failed in my nine years of ownership. It first occurred in 2015 under the 36,000-mile warranty, followed by three more failures every two years, with the latest at 84,000 miles in 2024. This issue is tied to a design flaw. The light bar is prone to water ingress, causing light source failure and attributed to a manufacturing defect by the dealership. The cost of replacement is $2,100, and arapahoe Dodge in centennial, CO, acknowledges it as a widespread problem in Dodge vehicles with this part. Despite replacements, the issue persists, calling for a recall to redesign and replace the faulty units. Functioning as a crucial safety component in the braking system, the failure of the brake light significantly increases the risk of rear-end collisions. I initiated a ticket with Chrysler, but the representative lacked knowledge. Suggestions of a factory technician assisting at the dealership were met with uncertainty. There are no warning signs before the led fails, with water accumulation being the only indicator. In summary, the recurring failure of the light bar poses a significant safety risk, acknowledged by the dealership. The cost of replacement is substantial, warranting a recall for redesign. Communication gaps with Chrysler and the lack of warning signs compound the issue, emphasizing the urgency for resolution.

34 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/05/2023

I have a 2019 Dodge Durango which has a faulty brake light that stays on. After doing some extensive research there was a recall on the Durango. (recall 21a, NHTSA 23e-019) this recall is for defective hydraulic control unit. Now the recall letter issues a suspected range on the units based on the julian date of manufacturing. For this recall is numbers 8166-9106. My unit is8355. The dealerships and Dodge have been making it difficult for me to have replaced because my VIN is not listed for this recall, but its clear it should based on the recall letter that provides the exact range of faulty units that mine falls inline with. I have attached some pics of the recall letter and of my hydraulic unit. Any help will be appreciated.

35 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/17/2023

While driving all sensors began flashing simultaneously. I took to mechanic and a few codes turned up. One for speed messages. One for can bus and the other was u0001. Took to dealership service and they had it for a week. After charging battery all sensors were cleared. Same day driving home all sensors came back on simultaneously. Car began making noises and driving in limp mode windshield wipers turned on by themselves. Took car to firestone to check battery. They replaced battery. Sensors were still flashing all the way home but no other problems. Next day I lost power steering and ability to brake. Nearly crashing the Durango. I eventually was able to pull wheel and get to side of road. I tried to turn off engine,, but it would not turn off nor would the shifter allow me to shift to park. I sat in idle for a few moments and turned car off. I was near my home so drove home. . Very difficult to steer. Then car sensors said to push clutch in . I have an automatic. It went crazy.
