Tl the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the four wheel drive engaged independently. Also, when the vehicle was slowed down, the steering wheel seized. The failures were experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who believed that the four wheel drive engaged independently due to an electrical switch failure. The contact inspected the vehicle himself and believed that the four wheel drive engaged independently due to a failure in the wiring harness behind the dashboard. The contact also stated that the heater blower motor failed. The heater blower motor remained on the high setting. The contact replaced the heater panel himself, but it did not correct the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.

Driving my 2005 Dodge Durango in a heavy rain storm at night. There was a pop and something flew off from my wipers then both wipers got tangled up. I couldn't see as it was a back road. I had to pull over and remove the passenger side wiper for inside of the driver side wiper. I couldn't use the wipers at all. I finally was able to move the passenger side wiper arm down enough to be able to use the drivers wiper. Had I been in traffic it could have been very bad. I contacted daimlerchrysler corporation and was told my Durango did not fall into the NHTSA's campaign # 06v067000 even though this arm breakage is what the NHTSA's campaigning is supposed to cover. The vehicle has 65700 miles on it. There was no indication that the wiper would fail such as rubbing or squeaking. It just failed. I know this has been identified as a recall on some vehicles I believe mine is one of them. I have had two other safety items already fixed on this car so I wanted to insure that owner of these vehicles know that their wipers can fail at any time.
: the contact stated the recall letter was received 7-21-06 concerning recall # 06v067000; windshield wiper motor. The contact is not experiencing problems with the vehicle at this time. The parts needed to repair the vehicle are not available at the local dealership. The manufacturer confirmed the parts are not available.
Complete failure of windshield wiper system in a national rent a car 2006 Dodge Durango during a torrential rainstorm while traveling 60 mph in the hov lane of I-5 in heavy traffic from los angeles to san diego. We suddenly could not see anything in front of us, and had to cross 5 lanes of traffic coming from behind and beside us to get to the side of the road (there was no curb on the inner hov lane). We narrowly avoided get hit in doing so, and feel fortunate that no one was injured in the process. It was what you would call the "perfect storm" for this kind of failure to have occurred, but I did feel it is important to make sure someone knew about this to make sure this car and its wiper system is checked so that some other family doesn't experience the same thing with more devastating consequences than an inconvenient delay of 3 hours. Thank you.
