4 Front Air Bag problem of the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/23/2009

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. Since about 5,000 miles the van has had an intermittent rumbling/squealing from the braking system, more pronounced at a stop, but also at low to mid-speeds. This past weekend, while driving down the driveway at less than 10 mph, the abs rumbled so loud the entire van shook. We then stopped the van, placed it in park and then back into gear (drive). When the brakes were again applied, they were rock solid (no movement of the brake pedal) then the pedal went all the way to the floor, resulting in a collision with a tree vice an on-coming vehicle. The passenger front tire rolled slightly up the tree, broke the wheel frame connection piece, bent the sway arm, buckled the front quarter panel, and exploded the tire. Van currently has 16k miles. No injuries. Event was witnessed by three people outside of the vehicle. But with that type of hit on the tree, shouldn't the airbags have also deployed?.

5 Front Air Bag problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/13/2009

While pulling into a parking space in a strip mall, my drivers side steering wheel air bag deployed. There was no contact of any kind with another vehicle or object on the pavement. My right arm was injured with lacerations and contusions, although not serious enough to see a doctor. The next day, I took it into the Dodge dealer for what I thought would be a warranty repair. The service manager said it looked to him like it had a front impact. I couldn't see any damage or indication of an impact , but he was quite sure and suggested I call my insurance company. The insurance adjuster said there had been a front impact. I have not had an impact of any kind since I purchased the vehicle approx. 6 months ago. I, of course, can not say it was never hit while parked in a parking lot. I can say the vehicle was not left unattended in a parking lot for 48 hours before the air bag deployed. I am concerned that an air bag can deploy, without warning, several hours, days, or weeks after the impact. If I had been traveling on the interstate highway when the bag deployed there could easily have been fatalities. By the way, the Dodge dealer checked the computer controller and says there is absolutely nothing on it. I have ordered a new air bag and controller.

20 Front Air Bag problem of the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

My "clockspring" wiring harness that controls power to the driver-sdie airbag, horn, and cruise control has failed on my 1999 Dodge grand cavan (~45,000 miles) VIN 1b4gp44l3xb886901. This is a safety issue and a clearly defective part that is involved in other recalls, yet Chrysler will not replace the part for free.

21 Front Air Bag problem of the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/05/2004

Clockspring failure at 99,400 miles. It's been recalled 1996 - 1998 and 2001 - 2002 and 1999 Dodge durango's have all been recalled. Westport Dodge refused to fix under recall or warranty. It's a safety issue as the horn and air bag don't work. Cruse is out but not a safety hazard. Dodge should be required to fix as almost all vehicles I searched have this problem and it's the result of a manufacturing defect (it was put togather wrong, causing the failure).

22 Front Air Bag problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

23 Front Air Bag problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/10/2003

I like to file a complaint regarding 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. This vehicle has experienced the same problem other owners have complained about regarding the horn and air bag not functioning due to a defective clockspring harness. Chrysler has refused to recall this component or acknowledge this as a safety issue other than saying it should be fixed. Most Mini-van owners transport families in these vehicles and it is a shame that Chrysler won't do anything about it.

24 Front Air Bag problem of the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan

26 Front Air Bag problem of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

Chrysler's improper action on air bag recall #02v293000 . When symptoms appeared 2 years prior to this recall, the dealer replaced both the clock spring and air bag, based on Chrysler's best service information. At the time I complained to a regional service representative stating that air bags rarely go bad and only need to be replaced after activation. He agreed by compensating half of the total repair cost. Lo and behold this recall shows up identifying this safety issue. I submitted the proper paperwork to Chrysler to participate in the recall and they denied the air bag portion of my repair stating it was not part of the recall. I feel total consideration should be given to the entire repair as this was their original solution to this safety issue. I felt my hands were tied at the time of repair because I wanted the safety of having the air bag for my family and was actually afraid of accidental deployment. You should direct Chrysler to provide full remedy qualified participants in this program. Do not allow them to shirk this obligation.

27 Front Air Bag problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/26/2003

On 04-26-2003 my family and I were leaving the detroit metro airport parking garage. We had just left our parking spot when we passed over what I assumed was a speed bump going approximately 5 mph heading toward the ticket booth which was just ahead. As we passed this speed bump our air bags spontaneously deployed for no apparent reason. There is no damage to our vehicle that would justify the air bags going off as they did. We have informed our dealership of this problem, as we feel that the air bags are faulty, and they also agreed at that time that there was no cause for the air bags to deploy. I spoke to the service manager, mr white at the m-59 Dodge dealer who said that we would be contacted and the matter investigated. I spoke to a mr. Bott, with the Chrysler investigations dept who stated to me that they determined that the air bags deployed from impact with a speed bump and no further assistance would be forthcoming. We feel that this should be looked at as a possible problem in the air bag system and at the least have the car fixed, as our dash board is all tore apart at this time, making the car virtually undrivable. We have major concerns about what happened as this could possibly have been a worse situation if we had been driving highway speeds and passed a bump or hit a pot hole and these bags had deployed, causing loss of control and a possible accident/fatality. The vehicle involved is a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, VIN # 2b4gp2431vr228528.
