I purchased my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan and took it into hall Dodge dealership in virginia beach va for routine maintenance and informed them that my passenger seat belt continuously unlocks itself and has to be checked regularly for security while driving. I took the vehicle in once again for a second time and reiterated that the seat belt was doing the same thing. They told me the vehicle was just over the warranty and would cost almost $300 to repair the seat belt. I told them it was a safety item and to check for recalls. The service guy told me that the bottom locking devise on the seat belt was inoperable and needed to be replaced. Please look into this matter as the seat belt is very unsafe.

2000 Dodge Grand Caravan - the front driver side seat belt will periodically and spontaneously un-latched. It just comes un-latched on its own - without moving it or touching it. Very dangerous!!!! if I get in an auto accident, and the seat belt becomes un-latched, not only will I probably get killed, but it will look like I wasn't wearing my seat belt. Please have Chrysler recall the models prone to this!!!.

I would like to complain that daimler Chrysler is still installing seatbelts (gen3) in their vehicles and has not issued a recall on previous year models to replace the faulty seatbelts. This is extremely important to ensure the safety of passengers as well as drivers of these vehicles. I would like to be able to get free replacement of my buckles of my minivan and see that this sort of nonsense regarding the safety of passengers in vehicles is stopped now, before others are seriously injured or killed as a result. This sort of information regarding faulty buckles is extremely disturbing and something needs to be done.

On 4/30/03 I purchased a 1999 Dodge caravan. I was very happy with the vehicle and came home with a big smile on my face. I turned on the news only to see a story about the gen3 seat belts. These are obviously flawed. I trust the NHTSA to do the proper reviewing and see the hazard that these belts present. Do the right thing and push for a recall. My family's lives depend on you. You have a louder voice than I will ever have.

I was sitting next to my child in his car seat and was putting on my seatbelt when I bumped the release lever to his seatbelt and it popped open. I didn't think much of it until I heard about the problems other Dodge/Chrysler vehicle owners had been having with their gen-3 seatbelts. I thought that if it was this easy to release the belt, then there had to be a safety issue. Nlm.
The passenger front seat belt comes unlatched at various times and speeds. The vehicle was taken to jenkins Chrysler south, lavale MD on 8/24/2001 where the problem was observed and parts were ordered. I was then told there would be a $100. 00 deductible charge as the vehicle was now under the extended warranty. When I questioned this charge and said that I didn't feel there shoud be a charge because it was a safety item, I was told that Chrysler would not cover the out of warranty repair and I would have to pay. When I asked for the service manager and told them I was going to file a complaint with the ntsa only then did they say they would take care of it. I am filing this complaint to make you aware of the problem and the dealers response.
Left rear row and left middle row seat belt buckle assemblies locked up, and required consumer to cut belts to get children out of vehicle. Both buckle assemblies locked up, and would not release. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
On at least 5 occasions, my the seatbelt holding my child's car seat in the second row captains chair has come undone. Luckily I check it before we go anywhere each time and have caught it. I'm not sure, but could this be a problem with the generation 3 seatbelts? if so, I do not feel my children are safe riding in these seatbelts and they should be fixed.
Vehicle is equipped with the gen-3 seatbelt which is defective. On at least 8 occasions my sons car seat has become unbuckled because if anything touches the top of the belt it releases. So if the car seat shifts at all the seatbelt is released and often goes unnoticed. This is an extremely dangerous situation which needs to be dealt with before many people are injured or killed.
Seat belt buckle failed causing infant seat to fall to floor with child.
Seat belt can be opened too easily, for instance a childs knee brushing against it can unlatch it. I have found the car seat unlatched a few times and thought it strange and then saw abc investgation into this problem which promtped me to write.
Red release buttons on vehicle is situated higher than the buckle. When passengers' elbows hit buckle it releases. Dealer says it's normal.
Vehicle rear ended another vehicle at 3o-35mph and driver's seat belt came unbuckled during impact. Seat belt retracted and was caught around passenger's neck. Chrysler has vehicle currently.
Please investigate the gen-3 seatbelt buckles and establish the 40mm or more stringent 30mm ball test as a standard for buckle safety. Also, I think that Chrysler should recall all of the vehicles that they put these in. The government needs to take action on this, because there is no telling how many have failed since there is no evidence after a crash, except for the fact that they can easily be bumped in a collision and release. The gen-3 seatbelt cannot pass the 30 or 40mm ball test and Chrysler knew about this since 1996. The most important piece of safety equipment in a car is the seatbelt. If it isn't then why are there seatbelt laws? if it releases during a collision, then I might as well not have it on to start with. Please take action on this!!!!.
