The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The passenger side seat belt warning light illuminated on and off on two different occasions. On the third occasion, the light remain illuminated and the chime continued to sound. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the sensor that controls the seat belt was defective. The failure could keep the seat belt from operating properly. The contact plans to have this repaired at his expense because it is not covered under warranty. The dealer also stated that there was a recall on the front seat retractor (NHTSA campaign id number 04v047000); however, it was for the driver, not passenger side. The failure mileage was 82,000 and current mileage was 85,000.

I was involved in an traffic accident when another car turned left in front of my car at a light. The airbags deployed and my seatbelt appeared to work. I only had a minor burn mark probably from the airbag, a bruise on one hand and a bruise on my right knee which probably came from the cover of the lower airbag under the steering wheel. There is no problem with these. My wife, the passenger, has bad bruises, some with scraps, across her body from her left waist to her right shoulder. Her right hand is badly bruised and appears one or more fingers were bent backwards from being jammed into the dashboard. She also has bruises on her upper thighs. It appears the seatbelt failed to work and the airbag stopped her or the seatbelt failed to lock on impact then suddenly locked. This assumption coming because of the type injuries. I feel this should be brought to someone's attention. I checked the website for Dodge/Chrysler but could not find a link to notify them. I know you do watch for potential problems so I am sending this complaint to you.

: the contact stated that both the front driver and passenger side seatbealts became unbuckled in a crash. The vehicle experienced both a frontal and rear impact; the crash involved 3 other vehicles. The vehicle was 2nd in the row of vehicles involved in the collision. The vehicle was travelling 70 mph at the time of the accident. The incident was the first time the consumer encountered the seatbelt becoming unbuckled without depresssing the release button. The buckle was free of dirt and other contaminants. The contact's feet went through the front passenger side of the windshield. The passenger sustained a broken left toe, crushed left foot, cuts on the right foot and leg. The driver sustained airbag burns on both arms and chest, as well as a knot on the head. The vehicle was totalled, and pictures were taken. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was contacted who directed the contact to the contact's insurance company.

I purchased a new 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan on 4/17/02. On 2/21/03 the van was in the dealership with the airbag light on again! this was the third time since I purchased the vehicle that the airbag light had come on. This time the dealer said the left front seatbelt tensioner shorted and had to be replaced.
