Wipers not working on 1999 Dodge caravan. Surfing the web and saw many related issues to this problem. It appears there were enough reports to request a recall. I consider this serious issue due to road condition when the wipers are needed and the vision impact also. It also appears that Chrysler/Dodge is aware of a problem.

My 1997 Dodge caravan has the habit of turning the windshield wipers on by themselves about twice a month. While they have never failed to work when I needed them, I've recently discovered that other caravan owners are experiencing the same thing with much expense taken to fix at no avail. I certainly would not want a faulty wiper system and would like to see the mfg. Take some responsibility if this is indeed as rampant a complaint as it seems to be.

Ur 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan's front windshield wipers one day went on, and stayed on whenever the engine was on {no matter what we did, nothing would shut the wipers off -- no way -- no how ! we tried everything electrical to get them to turn off. }. I had to drive the vehicle for days/weeks while the front windshield wipers were on and couldn't be turned off, and nearly got in two accidents because I was so distracted. This went on for several days while I waited for the problem to automatically cease of its own accord, which it never did. The problem got worse with time. The front windshield wipers went on of their own accord intermittently in the beginning, then after days/weeks, we could not shut them off at all. I was forced to bring the minivan to a Chrysler authorized dealership where they had to replace the bcm (body controller or body control module) at a cost of $574 at our own expense. I have asked Chrysler corporate twice if they will reimburse us; both times they refused. This is a factory defect that was not in any way caused by us. Chrysler is responsible for taking care of this defect, and doing the right thing by reimbursing us the $574. This is a safety issue. A person can not drive while the front windshield wipers are on while it is not raining!.
Intermittently the windshield wipers become inoperable obstructing the drivers view. A recall has been issued on similar makes and models, however this vehicle is not include due to the VIN dealer notified. Please provide further information. Ts.
While driving the windshield wipers will come on and go off on their own. Consumer stateeds problem is really noticable when turning corners. Mutifunction switch replaced.
Consumer states that the windshield wipers will automatically come on with out turning on the switch.
Windshield wipers work only intermittently. Dealer found no problem. Mr.
The day after purchase, the wiper blade was off track on the passenger side, which caused a deep scratch to become embedded in the windshield. This defect was repaired. About a week ago, the wipers started to hit each other about 3/4 of the windshield, they would bind, get stuck and lifted about 1/4 of an inch. Once loose they continued their operation. Consumer is concerned about the wipers binding again and the potential of another scratched windshield.

On numerous occasions since we've owned this vehicle the front windshield wipers spontaneously activate, make two or three passes across the windshield, then return to the stowed position and stop. Sometimes the activation is noted in conjunction with starting the vehicle, activating the turn signals, or during the process of steering the vehicle through a turn. Sometimes it occurs while just driving straight down the road. . . I suppose this quirk is due to rubbing wiring, etc. In the steering column, and my wife and I are accustomed to it by now. It occurs to me though that this wiper activation could easily distract a driver at a critical moment and contribute to a mishap. Email is the best way to contact us or try the home phone number after that. . . We check the answering machine frequently. Thanks, clay riales.
While driving windshield wipers stopped working. Windshield wipers paused in middle of windshield. As consumer turned windshield wipers on and off, they started working again. Consumer states wipers stopped again on the same day, however this has not happened at allw ithin the past two weeks.
Windshield wipers activate by themselves. No apparent rhyme or reason. No pattern.
The front windshield wiper comes on without my intervention. Sometimes this scares me so bad, my heart just starts to race. I fear that one of these times it might cause an accident. I wish Dodge would put out a recall on this item since I saw it mentioned frequently on your website by other Dodge Grand Caravan owners.
The front windshield wipers on our 1997 Dodge caravan will turn on by themselves. This problem has become worse over time. The local dealer believes they can fix the problem at a cost of $200. The problem is a safety concern and an annoyance and I believe Chrysler should cover the cost to repair it.
Windshield wipers come on intermittently without prior warning and without manually turning windshield wipers on. Consumer has yet to contact dealer.
Whenever it starts to snow or rain would turn on windshield wipers to clear windshield, windshield wipers would sometimes work, and other times would stop working after being on for a while. Sometimes, windshield wipers would not be able to turn off. This causes havoc with driver's visibility on the road. Problem is intermittent. Had taken vehicleto dealership many times. Dealer informed consumer no problem found. Told to bring vehicle back when it happens again.
Windshield wipers only work some of the time. Switch replacement by dealer did not yet fix problem. Car has been at dealer for 2 weeks.
Windshield wipers start randomly and continue for about 3 passes. Frequency of about once every three days.
Windshield wipers stopped working.
Windshield wipers activate without use of switch @ any condition.

While driving windshield wipers come on intermittently. Dealer has been contacted. Sb #08-031-94a.
Since may 1999, the wipers have been suddenly activating while no attempt was made to activate them. This sharply diverts driver attention from road conditions to wipers. It happens either singly or in multiple sessions during a drive.
Windshield wipers intermittently go on and off at various speeds. Found to be common in this model, when conferring with other owners. Wipers may fail during periods of heavy rain, causing driver to lose sight of roadway.
Windsheld wipers would come on & go off by themselves. This is happening every day when its in use. It is steadily worse. Vehicle will be taken to dealer.
Wipers frequently activate when the turn signal switch is used or returns automatically from use. Occasional activation without use of the turn signals has occurred. Dealership denies any knowledge of a problem. It is quite distracting and hazardous.
Vehicle experiencing problem with windsheild wipers operating while in an off mode. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that repairs would only be done if vehicle was under warranty.
This problem has occurred numerous times since purchasing this vehicle. I decided to report it after reading about other such incidents on this web site. The most recent occurrence was today, while waiting at a red light on a clear, sunny afternoon. The wiper switch was in the off position, as has always been the case. In fact, the wiper switch was replaced in October, 1996, but the problem still occurs.
Windshield wipers would come on and shut off intermittently while driving. This first happened in August of 1998. I brought vehicle to "mack Dodge" on 8/31/98 , dealer replaced malfunctioning "multi switch" part number cmc 05012382aa. I noticed wipers performing incorrectly in November, 2000. I spoke to a service representative at mack Dodge and was told the prior repair was only guaranteed for 12 months or 12,000 miles. On January 21, 2001 I was driving the van with my family in the rain and the wipers stopped. I had to play with the switch to get them to resume working. I strongly feel that this is a very unsafe condition , which was never corrected properly while the van was covered under the 3 year/ 36,000 mi. Warranty. Mack Dodge is located on route 37 east, toms river, n. J. Phone: 732-349-7474 . Thank you for researching this problem and advising me of my options in having this resolved.
