Recently bought 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan. The front wipers stopped working most immediately. We replaced the switch in the steering column and that did nothing. Then we replaced the wiper motor. That seemed to work but now they won't come on until the car has been on for a while. That is not safe as the rain does not wait until the car has been on for a while. Is such a safety hazard and other vans have recalls for this why not mine?.

Windshield wipers came on without cause or warning and will not turn off even with ignition off and key removed. Had to remove fuse and disable wipers to drive car and keep battery from discharging.

The wiper blades will turn on by themselves while driving. To get them to turn off you must turn the ignition system off then restart the vehicle. If you turn on the wipers while driving they will not go back off until the car has been turned off and restarted also.
The intermittent mode of the windshield wipers dose not work. The wiper control module has been replaced twice. The vehicle has been out of service a total of five days for the attempted repairs.
My 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan wipers goes on and off as they please. I was told it could either wiper motor or computer brain box or both that cost upwards of $500. I didn't repair due to cost. I think that should be covered under a recall when it's distraction on the windshield and a safety problem. Gm recalled thier wiper problems on the chevy trucks.

My windshield wipers on my 1996 Dodge caravan quit working. It will not work on any mode. When I pressed the wiper washer, it squirted water and the wipers cycled once. I tried it again one time and it did not work at all. It worked one time but it cycled very fast. Also, it turns on anytime it wants to. It is so unreliable that I do not think that it is safe to drive cause you do not know when it is going to rain.
The wipers occasionally comes on when turn signal is on. The wipers came on while I was turning - changing lanes and partially blinding my view of the road. I almost crashed while making the turn and in the same time trying to turn off the wiper. Since the wipers went on when the windshield is dry, it causes the wipers to streak loudly and scratch the glass. Also, the wipers crossed each other and cause it to suddenly back against the glass. Luckily, the wipers didn't smash the windshield. Having the wipers turn on a dry windshield glass while turning is very dangerous. We were lucky that my children and I weren't hurt by this incident.

Windshield wippers sometimes stop working when in the intermitant mode. Had module in steering column replaced. Still happens.
I own a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. I purchased the vehicle new. I have been experiencing problems with the wipers (front and rear) on this vehicle since I purchased it. The wipers come on "magically" while driving. The rear wiper sometimes comes on and stays on for prolonged periods, especially if the rear defroster is on. I have had the vehicle in three times to fix this problem, and it is still not fixed. The dealer now tells me that the main computer of the vehicle needs to be replaced. . . . A $700 repair!!! this is absolutely ridiculous! I can not afford $700 for this repair, or should I have to. I have owned numerous cars over the years and have never had problems with the wipers like this. There is no doubt that there is a flaw in Dodge's design. These vehicles should be recalled immediately. This is definitely a safety concern. I know of others with similar problems and sometimes their wipers just stop working while driving in the rain or snow. I hope and pray that this doesn't happen to me. . . . Especially while driving at night in a rainstorm! why haven't these vehicles been recalled for these problems? will it take a certain number of fatalities before something is done? if Dodge does not do something to fix my problem free of charge, this will be the last chyrsler product I will ever own. Wipers not working on 1999 Dodge caravan. Surfing the web and saw many related issues to this problem. It appears there were enough reports to request a recall. I consider this serious issue due to road condition when the wipers are needed and the vision impact also. It also appears that Chrysler/Dodge is aware of a problem.

The computer module for the windshield wipers failed.
Intermittent wipers will not cycle consistantly. They might sweep 3 times quickly and then will cycle normally, then may stop cycling for 4-6 cycles. Wipers will sometimes activate on their own. Intermittent wipers will sometimes begin to cycle and continue cycling even after the switch has been turned to the "off" position in desperation. We live in the pacific NW and have to drive in rain constantly. Not having reliable windshield wipers is extremely hazardous. We have had the car to a dealer twice and had the switch replaced twice within one year. Per the dealer, the switch was defective both times. While driving home from the dealer after having the switch replaced the second time, the problem occurred again but by the time we turned around and got back to the dealer, it was working fine so the dealer could not diagnose additional problems.
While driving under rainy condition windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. Took vehicle dealer, and the stated that windshield wiper switch was defective. Please provide any further information.
Windshield wipers come on involuntarily when vheicle makes turns or hits bumps. Defective windshshield wiper switch was replace in 2000. Windshield wipers are distracting when they are not needed. Problem still exists.
Windshield wipers do not turn off when the switch is turned off. The wipers swipe an additional 2 - 8 times after they are turned off, even if the engine is off. The dealer tells me they will never fail to come on, they only fail to go off, and that changing the switch may not eliminate the problem. I am concerned that one day the switch will not respond when the wipers are needed and visibility will be compromised. It has gotten progressively worse since I have had the van.

While driving, wipers come on and off on there own. Sometimes the wipers won't go off. Please provide any further information. Ph.
