1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

On June 4, 2009 I paid my 2001 Dodge Intrepid off. On June 20, 2009 while traveling on the interstate I heard my car making a knocking sound. As I pulled over to get off on the exit the car died and I almost lost control of the vehicle as I came off the exit. I had to put the car in park to get it to stop. This is scary being that my young children were in the vehicle with me. On yesterday the mechanic has advised me the engine is gone. I've had the oil sending unit replaced, the timing, the cam and crankshaft sensor, the water pump, the serpentine belt, not to mention the $600 just spent about 2 weeks ago to have the ac fixed. When the oil light first began to flicker the mechanic advised me that this would be the outcome. Something needs to be done about this!.

2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2008

I purchased my 2001 Dodge Intrepid in October of 2006 and have had no major problems with this vehicle until recently. In the last 30 days I have spent roughly $1200 in repairs for a timing change, the replacement of the crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor and some other preventive repair measures like a tune up, serpentine belt, etc. The problem that I am most concerned about is the fact that when I am reducing speed the oil light flashes and when at a complete stop and the car is idling the oil light comes on. I took the car to Chrysler and they advised me that the oil sending unit was leaking and needed to be replaced. However, I have had this part replaced in the vehicle is still having this problem. An outside mechanic advised me of related issues with this vehicle and told me to do some research regarding this issue. In my research I have found that this problem usually leads to engine failure and this concern me greatly. For the number of vehicles that has had this same problem something needs to be done!.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2007

Timing chain goes out with out notice due to a manufacturer defect had two go out this year then the oil sludge is so bad it makes the engine seize. 4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2007

I had been noticing a noise coming from my engine and was about to bring it to my mechanic, but while on the freeway, my car just died. I was able to pull off to the side and then get towed to my auto mechanics. The next day he had me come and look at my engine and showed me the timing chain and how much damage the chain did and how much sludge was built up in the engine. After doing some research, I came to find out that this engine was known for sludge build-up. I have to replace the engine and will not be putting a 2. 7 back in. I really like my car and am looking to put in a 3. 2 engine in so I can keep my car. This is something that should not have happened. This problem should have been taken care of by Dodge. My car is a 2001 Intrepid and only has 68,000 miles on it.

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2006

We were driving down a major highway and suddenly the car lost power and all of the lights came on, luckily we were able to pull off the busy highway without causing a major pile up. The car had to be towed to a garage where we were told that it needed a new engine! the garage checked everything, all fluid levels were normal, the guy said that there was no "explainable" reason why this occurred. A few months before this my timing belt was replaced along with several other issues (to the tune of $800) and it had just had one of the big check ups. The last 6 months or so my oil light would come on intermittently. I had this checked numerous times, the oil was always fine (and always maintained every 3000 miles). The garage at that time could not figure out why the oil light kept coming on and for lack of anything else said it was probably a short in the light. My car is only a 2001 and now is in need of a $6000 engine!.

13 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2006

I had just gotten my 2001 Dodge Intrepid our of the dealers repair bay where they replaced 6 parts on the car that were working before discovering that the timing belt had broken. We tested all of the parts later and they worked. This cost 1,400 dollars. 2 weeks later I was in my car on I-75 in atlanta, georgia when I suffered catastrophic engine failure at 75 miles per hour. The engine seized and I lost all power steering and had to force the car off of the highway across 3 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. After paying a 200 dollar towing bill I found out the accumulation of oil sludge in the top of the engine had caused the failure. The car has now been on a trailer in murray county georgia for 8 months and I don't have the money to replace the engine. After contacting Dodge they said that they would not help with the repairs. They blamed it on me saying I didn't change the oil enough this cannot be true because we have religiously changed the oil every 3000 miles. I have done research on the topic and have found many other people with the same failures. Dodge should be forced into repairing these problems. So here I sit this problem has almost killed my business because I cant afford a new car that is nice enough to take clients around in so I have to drive a piece of junk. You would think that these companies would care about their customers but once again daimler/Chrysler proves that they don't give a darn about the people who make them profitable. Unless this is resolved I will never have anything to do with a Dodge, Chrysler, or mercedes ever again and I swear I will tell every person I come in contact what these people are doing to their customers I may even start a negative ad campaign against Dodge. I will take this to the ends of the earth before I let anyone I know run the risk of losing their lives due the incompetency of these money hungry sharks.

14 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2006

After purchasing 2001 Intrepid in January of 2006 eight days later engine made loud scary noises while visiting family 250 miles away- I drove home and two days later engine failed- was towed to the used auto dealer where I purchased it. Less than two weeks after purchase, the engine had new chain, tensioner guides, cleaned intake valves, covers etc. Approximately $1100. 00 in repairs. I got the vehicle back in February of 06. On March 22, 2006 the engine blew while I was going to work. The warranty company will not touch it- the first time they refused and the second time is yet to be determined- I am without a vehicle and am pursuing legal options including opting in to a class action, PA attorney general, consumer protection bureau, private attorney since the check engine light was on when I drove the vehicle off the lot in the first place ( a cold winter night, I had two of my children with me and had to get them home, I called the dealer upon my arrival home to inform him of same).

25 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2004

Oil light comes on upon idling after driving in heavy traffic also have noticed oil leaking. A pool of oil on ground where car is parked. Took to Dodge dealership to examine. Car still under extended warranty until Dec 2004. Upon expection Dodge advises they need to replace oil pressure switch (under warranty) & gasket in oil pan. I authorized those repairs. Also advised replacing oil filter & 1 bottle of oil. Came out paying $82. 00. Once I got home and looked at my receipt they also rotated my tires (not sure why I just had that done in Jan. 04), replaced power steering belt. A week later still notice oil light coming on & oil leak is worse. Took care back to dealership & upon inspection they have advised I have a "sludge" build up from using 10w30 oil. Engine needs to be flushed estimate $287. I refuse and take care home. I have friend flush engine for free. No sludge was visible upon flush. Oil light still comes on & oil leak still present. This time I decide to take it to a mechanic instead of the dealership. Upon their inspection they see a major leak coming from timing chain cover. They also removed oil pressure switch & hooked manual gauge and ran tests. Oil pressure was good in all conditions they saw no problem with pump or engine bearings. They contacted my warranty with estimate to repair timing cover oil leak. Warranty approved repairs. Upon removing timing cover they replaced bad gasket and replaced crank seal. Total charges $223. 73 warranty paid $206. 26. No further problem with oil light or oil leak at this time. I change my oil every 3000 miles. Considering the weather conditions for oklahoma, 10w30 oil is satisfactory, my car only has 55,000 miles on it. Luckily I purchased the exteded warranty when I bought in 2 years ago. I will definitely be looking to sell this car before the end of this year after reviewing all the same complaints on the Dodge 2. 7l engine.
