The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Journey. While driving approximately 25 mph, a grinding noise was heard without warning when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to crown Dodge of fayetteville (436 n mcpherson church rd, fayetteville, nc 28303, 910-920-9613) where it was diagnosed that the brake pads were not fitted correctly on the calipers and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. Several weeks later, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer were the front disc brake pads were replaced. The contact stated that the brake failure occurred several times. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 70,644.

I have been having trouble with my brakes which has been replaced but still grinding noise and squeaky and rotors has been turned. The vehicle has cut off many times, sitting at the traffic light and as getting ready to go and as coming to a stop. It has also cut off as turning and once I realized it I had to try to restart it. It has at times door not unlock and not lock. As putting on brake to come to a stop it shakes. The lights are getting worse they are flickering on and off. Outside light goes out and whole dash goes off while driving. I have to keep flicking the lights as I'm driving so they can come back on. The vehicle has many times not start up and just click when trying to start it.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Journey. While reversing out the driveway, a grinding noise emitted from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics. The technician noticed that there were grooves in the rotor and stated that the caliper had not been releasing properly on the passenger side rear brake. Also, the mechanic stated that the failure might be due to the system being assembled with contaminated brake fluid. As a result, all the components for the brakes needed to be replaced. The contact was made aware that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v550000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Roy's Dodge in grand island, ne would not cover the cost of the premature break and rotor problem on my car. Vehicle begin having metal grinding noise from rear brake area and then front brake area. Vehicle shakes violently when applying brakes. Fix for the problems was new front and rear brakes and turn rotors. I had told them I was aware of the issues they have been having and all of the complaints, however it got me nowhere. I contacted Dodge and spoke with a very friendly lady who recognized this was a problem with this model and year. She contacted the dealership and asked them to work with my on taking care of some of the repair costs due to only having 33,700 miles on the vehicle and this being an issue. They refused to do anything to help with the cost. I was forced to pay to replace the brakes and rotors totally out of pocket ($488)! after doing more research and speaking to other Journey owners I guess I should be prepared to do this all over again in 7000-9000 more miles. Dodge needs to make a recall and make the situation right with their customers who spent a lot of money on their product!!!.
When applying the brakes and coming to a stop there was an awful grinding noise and it felt as if the vehicle might be jerking or not stopping correctly. I brought it to the dealership first thing on Monday and after their inspection was told that the rear brake pads are defective. There was some surface rust on the pads and rotors, but I was told that is normal and that these parts accumulate rust overnight but it normally grinds off when driving the next day. The dealership did not have the rear brake pads or rotors in stock, so they are on order. I was told the vehicle would be ok to drive until the parts come in and they instructed me that I had to come pick the Journey back up and could not leave it at the dealership. With the grinding noise, vehicle jerking and new knowledge of the "defective" parts, I am not comfortable driving this vehicle right now.
Own a 2010 Dodge Journey, front brakes shimmyed at 20,000 miles, called dealer not a covered part. Owner replaced front brakes and rotors, no further problem there. On fuel mileage has reduced from approx. 22 miles to gallon to 17 miles to gallon. Also vehicle slows down too fast upon coasting, feels like dragging. Tires from kumho are garbage, replaced all with different brand, was told no recall on those either. Tires wore out at 20,000 miles, was told by tire dealer that those tires are faulty due to wear out at 15 to 25,000 miles. Says chlysler knos about kumho but wont recall them. Overall getting discouraged with chysler product, and getting no help on problems. During winter month vehicle went into awd due to tires slipping, made ugly grinding noises and shake when activated, also stuck in awd. Had to back up 500 or more feet to get it to unlock or deactivate. Has not been right since, and again told not a covered problem. Everytime I call about these problems they say bring it in but warrenty will not cover, im disabiled and I cant afford to bring in and pay shop rates just to say on paper not a warrenty problem, I have to pay for repairs.
I bought my car used in February 2011 with 26000 miles on it. Since then, I have put 10,000 miles on it and have had to replace the front and rear brake pads and rotors twice. The brakes wear prematurely and make a loud grinding noise that you can feel in the brake pedal. The dealership needs to recall the faulty brake system on these vehicles. I can't continue to pay $600+ every 6 months on brakes. This is ridiculous!.

2009 Dodge Journey sxt. In the year I have owned it, I have replaced brakes twice, as rite now I am replacing them cause they started squeaking a week ago and today they locked up. Also replacing one of the calipers. Any time I take a hard left turn, there is a loud grinding noise. I have replaced the tires already, and have had to replace the rear 2 again recently. Any time I go to brake when going over 40 mph, the steering wheel shakes uncontrollably. I have also recieved a recall from a local dealership for a wiring harness in drivers side. When I went in to dealership, they put it on order and said they would call when it came in, but never did. That was 6 months ago.
I purchased my vehicle new in April 2011. Since I've had my vehicle I've been having issues with the braking system. I took the vehicle to my local Dodge dealership for a metal grinding noise I've been having at low speed braking and the steering wheel shakes violently when I apply the brakes at speeds usually above 45 mph or higher. After the dealership had a day to test my vehicle, they related they did not notice any problems with the vehicle braking system. Since that visit I've had new tires installed on my vehicle and im still experincing the steering wheel shaking problem when applying the brakes, the metal grinding noise with the brakes is speradic but almost always happens when it rains. It appears to me that the braking system in this vehicle is lacking and is a safety issue that Dodge needs to be concerned about. I hope NHTSA can address this issue with Dodge to have the braking issues with this vehicle reviewed and corrected to all current and future owners. Dodge only covers their brakes system parts for the first 12,000 miles of their vehicles, my recommendation is that they replace and defective parts immediatley and triple the mileage in warranty for their braking systems.

This car was purchased from a dealer used with 40,000 + miles on it. It had break issues right from the start. It seemed like the abs brakes did not work correctly and the car shook when the brakes were applied. After owning it for 14 months the front pads had to be replaced. The vehicle continued shaking and we were told the rotors were bad. We then replaced the front rotors and the back pads. The front brakes started making grinding noises within a couple of weeks. Now just one month after replacing the rotors, the front pads must be replaced again.

The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,389 and the current mileage was 39,550.

Bought 2009 Dodge Journey in June 2008. Beginning in late April 2010 at appx 26,000 miles brakes began a grinding noise. Took to get brakes looked at 2 weeks later and was informed the brakes/rotors were shot. One rotor was completely metal on metal and all the pads needed replacing. For a brand new car with less than 30k miles on it, there is no reason the brakes should have failed. I called the dealership to find out if the rotor was covered under my extended warranty and was told only the first 12k miles were covered. I have owned numerous cars over the years and have never had the brake damage/repairs needed on this car after so little time and miles had been driven on the car. After reading numerous complaints regarding the same issue, Chrysler needs to look into the problem. Brake repairs cost me $400. 00 for a car I bought brand new less than 2 years ago.
