1 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/12/2021

While parking car and engaging "the parking brake,} the brake popped and a round silver looking item popped out from under the brake pedal and landed on the floor board. Trying to engage the parking brake became useless as the petal just stated engaged and when toughed it came up to the parking brake release place, if the petal was touched it would fall back to the engaged looking. When driving I did not notice any burning smell which told me that the emergency was not engaged even tough the brake light was on. At home I checked under the car and found that back and forth. The brake cable was loose and moveable. Looking at the round piece that fell off it appears to be where the cable was tethered to and this would be placed in the brake petal. The cable appears to have severed at the round piece(connector) making the emergency brake inoperable. There does not appear to be any rust but just severed.

Could you advice me what to do in respect to this matter and if it was a recall since 2015 why I never received the letter.

All of the buttons stopped working in the driver's side door, along with the two back doors. The windows, locks, etc do not work because of this. The airbag light keeps turning off and on. Now all of the wiring is acting like it is messed up. The brake lights keep coming on, the car randomly won't start, the overhead light comes on when the right blinker is used. Now the car won't shift out of park 8/10 tries. The car also acts like it loses power randomly while driving in town. These problems have been listed as recalls, yet my car is not on the list.

10 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 06/13/2019

Yesterday, while waiting at a stop sign my 2012 Journey shut off. I had no idea it had even shut off! I pressed the gas to go and the car wouldn't move. I was a little baffled because the radio was still playing. I put the car in park and pressed the ignition and the car started again. This is latest and most unsafe issue that I have experienced with this car. The radio randomly changes stations and it doesn't shut off when the car is shut off. I have to turn the radio off before I turn the car off because it will continue to play. This started about 8 months ago. The car was turned off and the drivers door was opened, but the radio kept playing. If I forget to turn it off before the ignition, I have to restart the car and let the radio play for a min or so before I can turn it off. Also, the rear air suddenly comes on. When I turn it off it comes back on. If it's synced with the front air, it will randomly go to the high setting. The Journey also does a jerking motion while driving. This happens on the highway or neighborhood roads too. We thought that maybe it was the transmission, but we had it checked and it's fine! after yesterday's sudden shutoff, I'm wondering if all that jerking was a sign of what was to come. The brake light has been coming on for a few weeks as well. I could be driving on a city street or highway and the break light comes on. It usually happens while driving straight, acceleration or driving at a constant speed. It happens so frequently that my kids are like, here we go again because we, our bodies, start jerking with the car. We bought this car brand new at the end of 2011. I loved it at first, but now I'm afraid to put my kids in it something needs to be done. There are issues with diff. Model years, so if the problems are being fixed on some, it should be fixed on all. After all, the company made $ on all of them & our lives are valuable.

11 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

At first, when I started the car, it had trouble turning on, so I waited a while to try again and it did. While I was driving it smelled like something was burning and I noticed that both the abs and brake light when off. I pulled over on the side of the highway and turned off the car. I go to turn it on again and it just didn't after that.

12 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Faulty abs module due to water leak, recalled on very many 2012 Dodge Journeys. For some reason, not recalled on mine. Noticed brake light, abs light, and traction light came on, I had a diagnostic done by my own mechanic and confirmed over the phone with the Dodge dealership that I was covered under the recall. After dropping my car off and the mechanics there not fixing the issue, I was told that my VIN actually was not covered under that recall. So my abs module is faulty for no obvious or apparent reason. I rarely drive on highways, I never got into any accidents, the 3 notification lights as noted above just came on one day when I turned the car on.

13 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 04/30/2018

My car has 64,000 miles on it and the abs light, traction light, brake light and check engine light came. I have an appointment on Friday to get it diagnosed. At 32,000 miles the check engine light came on upon starting and my car would not go over 30 miles per hour. A fuel injector sensor went out.

14 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 11/17/2017

This car has just a little over 33145 miles and I just found out that the rotors on the back have rusted so bad that they wore out the back bracks and cannot be turned down they have to be replaced. I had my grandchildren in this car less than 2 weeks ago and my car was inspected in August by a Dodge dealer and then I took it back on 8/28/17 because the brake light was on they said the brakes were fine I have it on the invoice front brakes 10/32 80% and 7/32 60% but they said they were fine there no way that rusted in 2 months to that point. I will have midas take a picture of those rotors when they fix my car tomorrow $600. 00 for car repairs this week alone. Dodge need to pay for my rotors and labor and they are refusing because I will not take it back to the dealer. I will not have mine or my families lives risked again. I am done with Dodge two brand new Dodge Journeys in 4 years and major problems with the brakes, low headlight beams and electrical issues not to mention 2 recalls. I just found out today all this.

15 Brake Light On problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

On July 22, 2017, I tried to start my car and it wouldn't start. I called a tow truck company and they tried to charge the vehicle to no avail. They towed the vehicle to kendall Dodge Chrysler and Jeep. The vehicle sat at the dealer for over 8 days. When I received the vehicle back it still had electrical issue. I took the vehicle back in and they repaired the electrical issues again. In February of this year the while I was driving with my four kids in the car (2 of which are under the age of 3) the antilock brake light turned on and the car stopped on its own. After accelerator was tough to touch. I took the car to the dealer and they told me the car was no longer under warranty and I will have to pay for the repairs. I called Dodge directly and they called the dealer and the told them to repair the car. The dealer still gave me a hard time and would not give me a rental car. They made me call Dodge again and have them authorize a rental. The car is now giving me electrical issues again along with the antilock brake light turning on sporadically and when I called Dodge directly they told me they are going to send a tech to check the vehicle out. If they can recreate the problem then I would have to wait for the problem to happen again. I can not wait for the antilock brakes to lock up again with my kids in the car. The vehicle clearly has a recurring electrical issue that can not be fixed. This vehicle is a danger to me and my family it is a time bomb waiting to explode with the antilock brake locking up while I'm driving or even parked in my driveway. I contacted Dodge and expressed my issues with this car being a lemon and they want me to continue to try to fix the problem and continue to endanger my life and my kids life.

16 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 05/21/2017

The brake warning light, abs warning light and traction control warning lights come on randomly. Sometimes the brakes fail to engage when the abs light is lit and the vehicle makes a weird noise (sounds like grinding sound). Yesterday my wife was unable to stop at a traffic signal and went through a red light when the brakes would not work. This model and year are under a recall r61 (hhtsa 15v675000) but Chrysler support says our VIN is not covered. Turns out that the manufacture date of our car is about 6 months prior to the reported recall manufacturing dates. This is a dangerous situation that they refuse to even look at or diagnose without charging us to do so. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that our vehicle is exhibiting the exact same problems and symptoms as detailed in the above recall. I guess they want someone to die before taking action. It is my understanding that safety items like abs are covered for 5 yrs or 100000 miles and our vehicle is under that description as it has 86,000 miles and was built 10/2011.

18 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

My 2009 Dodge se Journey has had several problems including some under open recall, electrical recall. However my brakes are very bad,abs light and brake light frequently come on and off. The brakes act as if I have no brakes or pressure, until they are half way down then they over engage causing the vehicle to suddenly stop or significantly slow at unsafe pace. I have contacted Chrysler there is no recall at this time. This is an unsafe vehicle all around and complete recall should be in effect. This problem has occurred since we purchased the vehicle and has not stopped.

21 Brake Light On problem of the 2012 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 09/21/2014

Both rear brakes wore down to the metal and cut into my rotors. The brake light never came on,no scrapping or squealing. There should be a sensor that detects when brakes are getting low. I feel that this is a serious safety issue because my families life is in jeopardy;as well as mine.

22 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

Brakes were not working like they should going down a hill. Tried to slow down and stop and I keep going. Brake light came on!.

23 Brake Light On problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

Dealer said front brakes needed replaced due to wear on 3-15-12. I had the work done. Thereafter a loud chatter noise comes when brakes are lightly applied, such as slowing for a red light, approaching a stop sign, pulling into driveway garage, etc. The longer the distance driven, the louder the noise gets. Today (4-3-13) I have returned the car to the dealer for the 6th time for the same issue. The problem has never been resolved. I must drive from florida to ohio on may 4th, 2013, and am quite concerned about the possibility of brake failure on such a long distance. I am a 68 year widow on a fixed income. This has been a nightmare situation for me.

24 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 01/14/2012

I was getting noise from the brakes and a slight vibration at highway speeds, 50 mph or higher. Per dealer diagnosis front and rear rotors needed to be turned, but the brake pads are fine, they turned the rotors. About April or may I began to feel the slight vibration again when driving at speeds above 50 mph. I forgot to tell the dealership in April when I had my oil changed. I waited until the next oil change but by this time I had 13,000+ miles on it. I was advised my front rotors needed replacing and that I was out of the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty and I would have to pay a $50 deductible to have pads and rotors replaced, although again the pads were not worn. I paid reluctantly, but I needed my vehicle working properly as I was planning to take a "journey" in it. Now I have about 17,000 miles and the pulsation and noise is back. The diagnosis is the rear rotors now need replacing but again the pad wear is ok. The dealer and Chrysler llc are now telling me again I am out of warranty and have to pay a $50 deductible to replace the rear rotors and pads because if you replace rotors you should also replace pads. I have noticed many other complaints for Dodge Journey owners from 2009-present about brakes and rotors. I strongly believe this is a safety issue and the rotors at least need to be recalled. I have an 11 year old child and I am now expecting another. Do not want to drive a vehicle where I constantly have to replace rotors every 5000 miles on the front and 15,000 on the rear. This is not normal for any vehicle new or used that I have owned, including other sport utility vehicles of this size.
