We've owned this vehiclenot even 4 years. It had an engine recall that it was part of. It says it was repaired, however it never recieved a new engine. Now I just spent $9,000+ to replace the entire engine because of the exact issue of the recall: metal fragments in the engine. Why did I pay for this recall problem? did Dodge replace the engine during the recall? paperwork says no, but shows it was "repaired". If it was replaced, why did I replace it again for the exact same issue? Dodge has financially ruined our family. Besides this $9k we've spent $6k on engine work before the new engine, $4,500 on transmission work (with more to come as we're currently experiencing transmission issues) and $6k + on all kinds of issues that has never occurred on any vehicles I have owned in the last 30 years. And we've spent all this in under 4 years. This is unacceptable! for an american auto maker to produce and sell vehicles like this. This is why we people buy foreign. This Dodge is not a well built, trustworthy and dependable car. You won't believe how many times we've had to miss school and work because the car was broken down or being repaired. Our Honda civic was 20 years old, ran better and was 100% dependable. I never had to replace the engine, do any transmission work or have had half the problems with my civic than I have had and currently have with this "american" car that is only 11 years old. As a 1 income family with 2 kids in college and one still in high school, this is completely devastating to us. Trying to save money and get ahead and all of it has been spent fixing this vehicle. Dodge has completely devastated our family. How can an american auto maker be allowed to get away with producing vehicles like this? why should I have to go bankrupt owning a Dodge? why won't they accept responsibility for their defective product? I've spent $25,000 fixing this Dodge in 4 years. I can't afford to fix it or buy a new car. We're ruined.

I was driving my vehicle and the engine light came on with cruise control one time and abs brake lighta another time. When I got it checked by a mechanic, I was told it was clamshaft and crankshaft and that it was under a recall for my specific make and model and to take it to Dodge dealership. I did so and they ean a diagnostic test that tevealed exactly what I told them the mechanic told me and that it was not under recall and would be $2900 to fix. I argued that there is a recall for my specific make and model for the exact issue and was told to call Chrysler. I called and spoke with them and was told my VIN doesn't pop up for thr recall even though my same year, make and model is having the same specific issue and that there was nothing they can do. I drive my vehicle to take my son to school and go to work as a nurse, caring for others. I was told that my vehicle may power off in the middle of driving because of the faulty sensor, potentially causing harm to myself, my loved ones and others on the road for an issue that my same make, model and year vehicle has a recall for that my VIN number doesn't come up for.

Today while driving on the highway at about 60mph my vehicle lost power causing the car to surge forward. I was unable to steer or brake for several seconds. The gauges completely dropped. It was as if someone had shut the vehicle completely off. The vehicle then restarted on its own. I was nearly rear ended by a semi and am terrified of driving this vehicle anywhere. I did a google search and came across numerous complaints of this happening. No warning lights prior to it happening or afterwards. We have had no issues with this vehicle until this point. It has approximately 90k miles on it.
Car started shifting erratic.
When trying to start the car in the past every now in then I would get a one click and no start I tried to shift into neutral and nothing the same , I played with the button by turning g off and back on a few time and it would start and it started to get harder to get it to start and now it will only click and no start , I replaced the battery and starter was checked out and is good all battery ends are new and new battery cables , I know google is no auto mechanic but the post I have read there is a lot of Dodge Journeys that has this issue when I called Dodge I was told to bring it in and I will be charged , also about every 4th time I hit the door locks from the door as soon as the door shuts the horn beeps 3 times and all the doors unlock , need help please from what I am understanding it's something to do with the anti theft or the neutral safety switch inside the transmission ,.

I purchased my 2020 in April of 2021 brand new. When I’m driving my SUV, it will stall and not pick up speed, but my rpm still rise. Both of my front headlights fog all the time and have been replaced multiple times. The fog makes the lightbulbs blow and they have been replaced multiple times. The back up camera is turns upside down stops working when it wants to goes black and also has a green light. It was replaced by the dealership and started doing the same things again after one month. There is also an issue with my radio. It works when it once the volume stops working when he wants and the bluetooth works when he wants it has also been replaced by the dealership and now they won’t replace it again because it has been replaced.
On/about March 8, 2024 I was driving from st. Petersburg, florida to winter park, florida. I was eastbound on interstate 4 in the inside lane. The traffic was heavy and therefore slow. As I was proceeding at about 35 mph, the engine suddenly died. The vehicle became difficult to steer and the brakes felt abnormally difficult to apply. I was able to coast to the small space that seperated the inside lane from the divider seperating the eastbound lanes from the westbound lanes. After coming to a stop, I put the car in park. I then tried to restart the vehicle. The vehicle started normally and I resumed my travel. My safety and the safety of other drivers was put at risk by the sudden stopping of the engine in the middle of traffic. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independant service center. Since the incident, neither the vehicle nor the engine has been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance rep or anyone else. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to or after the failure.
Faulty keyless ignition node.
Won't start. Multiple repairs and it still happens. Online forums say it's common on 2009-2017 year models.
The contact owns a 2019 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the abs and check engine warning lights remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that abs module was faulty and needed to be replaced; however, the parts needed were no longer available from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the abs module was no longer available and no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 47,000.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving at unknown speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated, the instrument panel flashed, and the vehicle turned off. The contact stated that the vehicle restarted approximately 15 minutes later and was taken to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the flash software, power train control module, anti-lock brake system, wiring three-way, crankshaft position, and sensor battery were replaced. The contact received notification of the emissions recall u67 for the catalytic converter efficiency, however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 100,101.
The vehicle shuts off while driving. It has occurred 6 times over the course of a year. It results in a total loss of power, steering, brakes creating a very unsafe scenario. It has happened 5 times while doing above 35 mph and in one case above 50 mph and resulting in one missed stop sign. This creates a tremendous level of anxiety. I have taken it in on four occasions to reputable repair facilities christian brothers automotive for repair three times soon to be four times and carmax once. Three times I was turned away with no help only inspection fees. The fourth time christian brothers replaced cam shaft sensors only to have another incident while driving 40mph down the road. Thankfully I was able to stop safely and now I have another appointment scheduled for service. I feel like there is a safety miss on this vehicle.
Unknown. This vehicle is great if it would stay running. I drive it about 15 min than it just shuts off and won't restart until it cools down . I've had it checked and replaced camshaft and crankshaft and the throttle potionsensor and it continues to shut off while driving. It's very irritating it could cause a accident and also leave someone stranded. No codes pop up anymore but it still has that problem.

Cam/crank position sensor intermittent problems and codes. Catalytic converter efficiency codes and problems. Power steering problems. Automatic transmission issues, stutters, acceleration issues.
Vehicle started stalling repeatedly for brief moments, cruise control began to "stick" on. Vehicle does not "die" in these instances but all electrical components shut down for a very brief moment then come back on. This happens frequently and for no apparent reason associated with road/driving conditions. Cruise control also wouldn't turn off when problems started. Haven't tried to use cruise control since first instance for fear of safety.
I bought my 2017 Dodge Journey in September 2021, as I was driving home I noticed an issue with acceleration. I would have my foot on the throttle and the vehicle would seemingly convulse, like accelerate then bow down and repeat. I brought it back to the dealership and they kept it for a week and returned my vehicle stating they couldn't figure out the issue. To this day it still does the same thing! its so dangerous especially when pulling out from a stop sign or a highway into flowing traffic. Sometimes my car will accelerate great! mostly its slow and harsh when im on the throttle. Only stops when I release the gas petal or floor it. . . Not safe the dealership.
Engine oil filter housing made of cheap plastic. Sitting under the intake in the v part of the engine between the cylinder heads. Plastic housing with hot oil trapped in the middle of the engine. Dries out the seals and causes housing to crack. Well known issue, all aftermarket housings are made of aluminum because of this. Due to location oil leaks into that v area and pools continuously. After driving around a corner large amounts slosh over and down the back of the trans and onto the exhaust and on the drivers side wheels. Well known fault costing consumers at least $500 to repair a faulty part due to no recall. Please make them do a recall this can start a fire or cause crashes from oil getting on the tires.
My engine light came on my vehicle and the dealership says it’s a catalytic converter problem and I need a new one. That part apparently is recalled on other vehicles but not on mine for the year 2017. But other vehicles are having issues with that part as well and the dealership says the manufacturer should pay for it since it’s recalled but the manufacturer told me no due to not being in a certain year. I have kids and need my car.
The contact owns a 2018 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the vehicle would not immediately start, and white exhaust smoke was coming from the vehicle. Also, the message "coolant low" was displayed although the coolant reservoir was full. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the head gasket was faulty. The head gasket was replaced but the coolant message continued to display. The contact also indicated that the back over prevention camera was faulty, and condensation was present inside the driver's side front headlight housing. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
Car shuddered while driving, started making metal clanging noises’ and stalled in the middle of an intersection. I just had it worked on and had to fully replace the transmission (approximately $4000) due to the torque converter shredded metal in the transmission and seized up. Car after stalling would not go into reverse or drive. Would start up, but once in gear would make loud metal clanging sounds and shut down. No warning lights shown on dashboard.
The car shifts super hard into second gear. The inside smells like the car is over heating, driving down the interstate the car losses power, you can push your foot to the floor and nothing, the car will not excelerate at all. It's extremely dangerous. You have to pull over turn the car off and then on again to get it to go. This happens about every 20 minutes or so,the heat only works in the driver vent and the smell gives you a headache and makes you sick to your stomach. The vehicle is not safe at all. The catalytic converter gives gas off into the cabin.
My 2018 Dodge Journey shutdown when driving. There is recalls for this but not for my Dodge Journey. This is unsafe. The manufacturer should pay for it to be fixed. I have read so many store on all makes of Dodge Journeys they all have same problem but only certain ones are being recalled.
This was not an overnight thing. The hoses were being exposed to maximum temperatures each time I drove the car. The hoses going from that extreme heat to cold over and over again which caused little air bubbles in the hoses. As time went on the hoses were forming holes on the inside (up til this point there was no warning indication) because of that three hoses burst. Which caused my car to overheat very suddenly to the point my oil temp shot sky high (which was the first warning light saying my oil was over 300 degrees) and my head gasket was blown before I could get off the road. My windows instantly fogged up from the heat which impaired my vision and resulting in me almost hitting another vehicle when seeking safety to see what was wrong. This has been confirmed by other consumer reports about the faulty hoses. If I knew they were not applicable of being in my vehicle, I would of changed them for more suitable hoses. Luckily nobody got hurt but the instant combustion could of ended in a fatality.
On vehicles with the 3. 6l pentastar engine, the oil pump fails before 150,000 miles causing dtc p06dd to trip which instantly puts the vehicle into "limp mode". This immediately cuts down the power to the engine which slows everything down potentially causing you to be hit by other traffic. It also causes a hefty repair bill. This is a very common issue known to the repair shops and dealers. My family has a 2012 Dodge Journey with this engine. A local and well known mechanic shop performed extensive diagnostics and confirmed this issue. The repair took hours to complete. The repair shop did replace other parts that could potentially cause this problem, however, it did not resolve the issue. There were/are no warning signs; simply the engine light comes on and the vehicle goes straight into limp mode with immediate decline in power.
