While driving 60 mph on I-35 in san antonio, texas in January, 2004, my 2003 Neon r/t (with approximately 10,865 miles) experienced a complete loss of power. Luckily the momentum was great enough to allow me to pull off to the side of the highway. I checked the vehicle (cable connections and fuses) and could find nothing wrong. After 10 minutes the car started and ran fine. I took it to gunn Dodge in san antonio in February, and they said a cell in the battery checked bad and that was what caused the total loss of power. They replaced the battery. While driving from san antonio, texas to knoxville, tennessee on April 18, 2005, the car again experienced a total loss of power while I was driving at approximately 60 mph, outside of dallas, texas. I was again able to pull off to the side of the highway, and I detected a slight scent of electrical components overheating. . Again all cables and fuses appeared to be ok, but car would not start. As I was talking with Chrysler roadside assistance on my cell phone, my wife checked the positive battery cable connection, I attempted to start the car, and it started (approximately 20 minutes after the total loss of power). I was able to complete the trip to knoxville, tennessee without incident. I took my car to rice Chrysler-Dodge in knoxville on April 19, 2005 (car had 24001 miles). After several hours, the service advisor informed me all cables, wires and fuses checked out fine, as did all ground connections. He also told me they had called Chrysler to speak with an engineer about the problem, and the engineer could think of no reason why my car had experienced a total loss of power while driving at highway speeds, nor had he any knowledge of this happening to anyone else.

While driving at 70 mph, the consumer attempted to exit a freeway and the vehicle lurched and made a loud noise. The vehicle was pulled into a parking lot and smoke began to emit from the hood. Consumer turned the key off, but the vehicle continued to run. The fire department arrived and disconnected the battery cables. At that time the smoking ceased and the engine shut down. The consumers vehicle continued to run rough and lurch forward, the check engine light would come on, , the vehicle would run with the key out of the ignition, and when the door was inadvertently shut, the door would lock. The dealer could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. The consumer was told that the fuel was delivered at a rich combustion level. The service dealer replaced the ab/master relay and the power train control module. (fuel was being delivered to the cylinder at excessive amounts and with the key out of the ignition).

I have had this car for two years and for the last year and half I've had this problem: the car shuts off while I am driving. I lose all power. I have to steer the car off the road, open the hood, fiddle with the cables connected to the battery, the power clicks back on, then I get back in the car and drive it till it happens again. I've brought my car into k & m northfield Dodge dealer in grand rapids, mi so many times I've lost count, and they've haven't been able to find or fix the problem. Sometimes it happens several times a day, or it can go days/weeks without the car shutting off.

2001 Dodge Neon . In shop 11 times for same problem. Electrical failure. All gauges drop to 0 engine stalls and starts back up. All lights black out. Very unsafe!!! car can swerve due to power lose. Have had 4 very close calls of being hit when the car does this on freeway. Car was under warranty when problem started and problem could never be duplicated. Computer modula replaced, engine shut down replaced, ignition switch replaced, relays replaced. Just had positive battery cable (harness) replaced at $280. 00 cost to me with 3 days lost at work. 20,000 miles ouit of warranty and even though problem has been documented for a year while under warranty I had to pay that and the $110. 00 for the engine shut down relay 2 weeks ago. Don't know if this is fixed or not. Will never buy another Dodge.
I turned the key that morning to go to work, the car was totally dead. I called chryler roadside assistance, sent a tow truck, gave me a jump, I let the car run for 45 minutes before going to work, I started driving, dashboard lights were blinking like crazy, the gas guage kept moving up & down, and the seatbelt light started blinking. Drove to carmax/los angeles and they were closed. I drove home, wouldn't restart, called the tow truck again, car towed to Dodge dealer (on manchester & isis/inglewood). I was told that the battery cell had dislocated, replaced battery and I was told that everything was fine. 12/20/driving home on the 405 freeway, the car began to jerk and all the dashboard guages were going up and down, the radio cut off, and the gas guage was going crazy. I was at the century blvd exit, I made a sharp turn to get off on century, then the car just cut on by itself. I continued to drive abount 1 mile and the car totally went dead. There were no lights or power. I called for a tow, the car was towed to downtown la Dodge, I was told that the battery cable was loose, it was tightened and they didn't see any other problems. . 12/23/drove around the corner from my house (1/4) mile, car cut-off in the middle of the street. My friend came, touched the battery cable, and the car started. When I drove about another 1/4 mile, the car shut-off again. I called the tow truck, the car was towed to the seller (santa monica Nissan), they kept the car for a week trying to find the problem. On December 31, I rec'd a call from buerge Dodge, they had to re-wire the entire car. . 01/10/I was driving home from work and the car accelerated before coming to a complet stop, my CO-worker instructed me to open the hood, she touched the battery cable and the car started. I came home and left mssgs for the buerge Dodge service person (jeremy battat) to call me back and I still have not heard from him.
