Blown Head Gasket Problems of Dodge Neon - part 2

The first problem I had with this car was the head gasket blew out. Chrysler agreed to pay for it (the $1000 was my estimate of what it cost to replace the gasket). The second problem was the throttle assembly and coil pack quit working, both at the same time. I paid $600 out of my pocket to fix them. The third problem was the automatic transmission started slipping and the car will not go into reverse when its cold. The fourth most current problem is the brakes are not working properly the pedal will not go down and the dealer says its probably something to do with the vacuum system. I contacted Chrysler and they are not willing to pay for the repairs for the transmission, even though they have admitted that they have problems with automatic transmissions per information I obtained from a web site called lemon- aid. ****** I will never buy a Dodge again!!! I'm spreading the word. I come into contact with many people everday. So sorry Dodge!!!******.

Weeks after routine oil/filter change I noticed oil pooling under vehicle, especially while running. Found head gasket blown.

Excessive tire wear in the front. . . . Head gasket blown and leaking oil badly. . . Excessive gas consumption, (180 miles to a 12 gallon tank) dashboard cluster (all guages including, speedodmeter, odometer, and fuel and temp guages) does not work at all now. . . The head gasket was leaking and had to be replace it took two weeks to get the part because they said that most of the 97 Neons head gasket was blown.

This car has endless problems. With 2 head gaskets and 1 valve gasket blown, I worry about what damage has been done to my car. I just hope it doesn't blow too. I want Chrysler to double my warranty!.

Whenever the brakes were applied, they would squeak. Had noticed the rotors were rusting out. Had taken vehicle to dealer & told would not repair the rotors due to state using salt on the road. Also, the head gaskets had blown & started to leak a lot of oil.

Dodge Neon manufactured in 1996/as far as I know the head gasket has had to be replaced three times/ originally when built (unless previous owner had same problem) and twice by me (9/3/97 and 10/18/2000) now don't you find that absurd. . . . I formally owned a Dodge daytona for ten years. . . Had many other problems but it never blew a head gasket. . Ihave an oldsmoblile that has 1400000 miles on it. . Never needed a head gasket. . . . Had this head gasket blown out on a major highway next week on the way to maryland, the engine could seize and could have caused a major accident with serious results . . Not to mention the cost of repairing a "cracked block" this head gasket is a major safety hazard as far a driving is concerned and I find it unbelievable that crysler is allowing this serious matter to continue//I feel that reimbursement for the replacement of these two head gaskets should be sent to me immediately. . . Crysler had my business for long enough. . . I feel that someone should do something to help all of the Neon owners that are having the same problem but can not get anyone to listen or as usual . . . The small guy is out of luck. . . This financial burden is just too much at this time. . . Thank god my granddaughter was not in the car and a serious problem occurred. . . . While driving 35 mph the vehicle started to smoke under the hood area. After stopping and lifting the hood, noticed oil all over the engine. After the vehicle was towed to body shop, owner was told the the engine head gasket was blown.

Instrument panel (dash gauges) has a short and does not work, this includes the speedometer, odometer, and fuel &temp gauges. Engine head gasket is blown and is leaking oil badly, and excessive tire wear on the front of the car. . . Car is experiencing excessive gas consumption. . . Goes about 180 miles to a full 12 gallon tank of gas. . . It passes everything but a gas station. . . A tech at the dealership (ragland Dodge, angleton texas) told me that these are very common problems with the Dodge Neon. . . ( dot number: tire size: 165/80r/13 ).

Vehicle leaks oil, and headgasket is blowen. Contacted dealer, and dealer changed head gasket. But soon after headgasket blewout again.

Brakes and have replaced twice and still continue to squeak. I have found dozens of complaints online about the brakes, as well as the head gasket blowing. I have found hundreds of complaints from others who have also had to have the head gasket replaced within 5 years.

I have had problems with the head gasket in my 1996 Neon three times. The first time it was covered under warranty. The second time I had to take it to a shop and have it repaired costing me $450. Both times the car was under 50,000 miles. Now my car has 78,000 and the gasket has failed again. I have contacted Chrysler about the problem and they are well aware of it. I have found a web site, Neonheadgaskets. Org, and seen that several people have had help from Chrysler, Chrysler paying $500 and the customer paying $100. But the decision is up to the service manager and the district manager. It really upsets me that a recall has not been called. Now they have even replaced the old gasket with an updated new one, which has not been put on my car yet. They're not sure if that will even work. Please make Chrysler take responsibility for their mistake. It is not my fault the gasket is blowing.

Vehicle has experienced various problems with the engine. While vehicle was in motion t engine light illuminated . Head gaskets blew which caused oil leakage onto the engine block. Dealer5 has replaced the engine gaskets , the sensor and engine filter.

I have had multiple problems on a 96 Neon. I think around 35,000 miles (10/29/98) that the head gasket blew. I took it to be fixed at a cost of $100 covered under warranty. Again at 50,000 + miles (4/29/99) we had to take it in again for a blown head gasket. In addition, I think this was the time that we had to replace some kind of front oil seal. We also had them try to fix the speed gauge that had started acting strange. When the speed gauge acted up so did all the other lights on the dash come on for no reason. They replaced the cable but we soon found out that it didn't help. This was at a cost of $114. 58 covered under warranty. At 75,000 (12/3/99) back again for some oil seal around the spark plugs and the changing spark plugs etc. Mostly under warranty at a total cost to me of $134. 41. This did not fix the problem so I took it back for more charges of $197. 43. I was also told that I needed to replace something in the dash to keep the warranty good so that the tachometer would still work. I told them to get the parts ordered because they told me it would be more than five days to get this done and my warranty only covers a rental for 5 days. I have not heard back from them. Two days ago, I changed the oil and it was leaking from the front seal (or it seems to me). Yesterday the service eng. Light comes on. I will be contacting bob allen Chrysler in danville Monday to see what they will do. My point is that Chrysler needs to help all of us that have problems with the head gasket. One of the service workers told me that they worked on way to many of the Neons for head gaskets. I have also had the electrical problems with the dash and the car seat does not lock into place very well when you adjust it.

The vehicle has had two head gaskets blown, in a twelve month period.

Vehicle parked in garage. Had noticed engine oil leak. Took to mechanic. Was informed head gaskets had blown out. Needed to contact dealer for repairs. Had no warning regarding head gaskets.
