37 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 05/25/2006

My 2002 Dodge Neon ES has had nothing but problems leading up to the expiration of my warranty. Everything from electrical issues to radiator problems to the transmission. I took it for service at 65,000 miles because the transmission was slipping. My dealership said it was the radiator and the transmission was fine. I knew they were lying and sure enough, at 72,000 miles, 2,000 miles after my warranty expired, my transmission is dead. Chrysler corp. Refuses to fix or even discount a transmission for me saying that my car is "above and beyond" any warranty. I don't consider 2,000 miles above and beyond, especially considering the car had 5,000 miles when I bought it and was considered brand new.

38 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 05/15/2006

Last week the car stared blowing the dashboard light fuse. I've replaced it 4 times, and they all blew with in a few minutes. The dealer said they spent 2 hours trying to find the problem. I paid the $100. 00 diagnostic fee and three blocks from the dealer, the fuse blew again. I took back to them and will pay another $100. 00 fee tomorrow. The factory warranty ran out 2600 miles ago, and I purchased Chrysler's best maximum car upgrade service contract so I would not have to deal with this kind of stuff, but it is not covered. Now I have a car I can't safely drive at night because I can't see the dashboard.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 05/02/2006

About 2 1/2 years after I purchased my Dodge Neon sxt the seal at the bottom of all the windows began to dry up, crack, and fall off. At this point I barely have any seal in between all 4 of my car windows and the car door. Water has gone down into my door and I'm afraid that it will soon affect the electrical equipment in the door. My main concerns are the controls for adjusting my mirrors, my window controls, and my door lock. I have never seen a car's seal basically dry rot and fall off of a car starting so early. I would expect it to start happening now that I've had the car 8-9 years, but not to this extent.

40 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 04/15/2006

Took my 2002 Neon sxt in for transmission warranty work in 2004. . . First Chrysler denied the claim stated that the transmission was not covered (had an extended warranty!). Had my speed sensors replaced in December 2005 & am taking the car in again tomorrow to have them replaced again.

41 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 02/19/2006

Make: Dodge model: Neon type: passenger car year: 2000 summary: as noted in other complaints, with any heavy rainfall, the floor in the back seats fills with water (up to an inch or more). Appears to be entering through the trunk area, as the spare tire well also fills with water. Using sponges and a shopvac to soak up the water and then leaving windows open to dry it out is my only remedy to the moisture and odor. This has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased in 2001. The dealer is of no help because (mercifully for others) that deal went bankrupt a year after purchase. I have a litany of other concerns with the 2000 Neon. I've had to replace the engine (Chrysler refused to honor warranty - partly a problem with records as the dealership of purchase/initial maintenance has gone out of business), each time I start the car, the fuse warning light comes on, though all fuses have been checked and look ok. An electrical harness has failed and as a result I have no functioning interior dome lights or exterior backup lights. Repeated efforts by several repair facilities to locate the correct harness have failed. Vehicle has under 72,000 miles of relatively easy city driving (commute to workplace) or divided highway driving), yet most front and rear suspension system components have failed and been replaced (all struts, sway bars, etc). Transmission fluid hose or connector failed on Feb 19, 2006, resulting in sudden and complete loss of fluid.

42 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 11/20/2005

: the contact stated while driving the transmission speed sensor shorted and caused the computer to short out. The engine and transmission completely locked and the vehicle stalled. The contact pushed the vehicle to the side of the road, where it was then towed to a certified dealership. The transmission and engine were replaced as a result of the damages caused by the sensor.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

The gauges, (gas, rpm's, oil, temperature) on my 2002 doge Neon will go haywire while driving the car. The bell for the door will also go off while I'm driving. I don't know how fast I'm driving or how much gas I has left. And the bell for the door will constantly ring. I took it to a Dodge dealer who ran some tests on it and they cannot find the problem. It seem to happen more frequently when the weather is warm.

44 Electrical System problem of the 1997 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 04/29/2005

1997 Dodge Neon developed a problem with the fan relay. ** answer required***. There was an apparent problem with the radiator fan circuit. The vehicle had displayed diagnostic code p1491. The consumer replaced the engine temperature sensor and the solid state fan relay. There was no continuity on pin 18 of the back of the power control module connector. The pcm was defective due to the output on the pin. The consumer found a break in the wire at the c160 connector. The break was caused by the wire management clip chafing against the group of wires. The pcm connector number one and it's cover are now broken at the connection points and the cover will not stay on and the wires were coming out and are exposed to the elements.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 01/03/2005

While driving cross country home from visiting family for christmas, headlights, fog lights all quit while on the freeway. Luckily the moon was out full and a big truck was behind me with bright enough lights. I figured out I could have lights by holding the "flash" of the brights. I ended up jumping the fuse panel to get power to the headlights. Went to the dealership, told me problem happens a lot. But nothing they could do about it. Had to buy a new multi switch for $95. J.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 10/20/2004

Smoke started coming out of the vents & steering column. Took it to the dealer & they said it was spilled anti freeze from when they changed the oil. Car was ok for a little while. Now it's smoking again the front defroster doesn't work the fog lights are gone & recently my highlights went too. 49 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 08/23/2004

Car was 5 months old when it started to jerk & basically turn off intermittantly while I was driving at different speeds, the radio would turn off completely & the seatbelt lights on the dash would light up, the car would turn back on and then revv as though being down-shifted and then go back to normal. The problem proceeded to get worse to the point where the car stalled in traffic & I was broke down in the center divider. Dodge dealership has failed to find a solution after three visits & now my car is hooked up to a CO-pilot. This problem remains unfixed & even more dangerous to drive. Has stalled three times on the freeway!.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 08/05/2004

Consumer stated that while she was on her way to the doctor's office she experienced some funny things with vehicle. It seemed as though one of the wheels locked, and the vehicle jerked. Also, it smelled like burning rubber. Consumer stated that later it unlocked by itself and powered itself up, and then took off. Nothing else happened again. She was at doctor's office where she parked for 2 hours. Afterward she got back into vehicle to return home, and the vehicle did the same identical thing after about 20 miles. All of this happened after putting coolant in the vehicle. Consumer insisted that she needed help because she could have been killed. Vehicle stalled while driving.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 05/27/2004

I owned a 2000 Dodge Neon. I last drove the vehicle on may 25, 2004 and it had been parked outside my apartment since that time. According to the police report, on may 27, 2004 at about 2:45am my car while parked outside my apartment caught on fire. I was unaware of this and was asleep in my apartment at that time. According to the police and fire department, the fire was confined to the engine compartment and had to be put out by the fire department. According to the insurance fire investigator, the heat from the fire was so intense and engine and front end damage so severe that he was unable to determine an official cause but suspected the fire to be electrical in nature. Officially according to my insurance, the cause is unknown. My insurance determined my vehicle to be a total loss. I have no reason to expect arson or that it was deliberately set fire. The police and fire departments also did not suspect arson and are not pursuing further investigation. The consequence of this fire was a big finacial loss for me(based on my annual income) due to the insurance reimbursing only half the original cost of the car. I also am thankful that I was not operating the vehicle when this happened which could have caused me serious injuries. I did have two prior accidents to the front end of this vehicle with one of the crashes requiring the engine to be removed and put back in. This crash, however, took place over a year ago and I had no problems with the Neon up until may 27, 2004. As a result, I do not suspect the prior repairs to be the cause of this fire. With the recent recall of the chryslar pt cruiser, I thought I should report this Neon engine fire to protect other Neon owner's safety.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 03/19/2004

While driving 45 mph a loud ticking noise was heard coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, however the mechanic could not duplicate or resolve the problem. The headlights had gone out while the consumer was driving the vehicle, the wheel needed to be replaced, there was a problem with the brake line in the front, the wheel bearing was broken in half, the fog lights had gone out, there was a roaring sound when the vehicle was in motion, there was a whirling sound in the engine which would get worse when accelerated, the rotor/pads rusted, the steering pulled to the left, and when slowing down, the steering wheel would shake. (Dodge Neon sxt 2004).

55 Electrical System problem of the 2003 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 01/04/2004

I have a Dodge Neon 2003. January 2004 I took my car in for routine service (oil change/plugs. About a week later a spark plug shot out of cylinder one. I call the service department and took it by the dealship (darcars) they put the spark plug back in but my car hasn't run properly yet. They refuse to take responsibility for the problem because it's takes a thousand dollar or more to fix. I've had dianogstics done and now the car is be repaired at lee's auto shop with problems hard for mr. Lee to fix (electronic problem in the no. 4 cylinder; it won't open and close properly. Lee's done all he could do so far (the car now is still in his shop. It's been about a week). Furthermore I was told afterward that a new car dosn't need a tune up for two years. I think the service guy should have informed me of that instead he took my money with no refund. The exact day I don't have right now but I could get it I have all my problem paper work.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 11/12/2003

My interior light and my gauges in my car are not working. I can't see how fast I am going or how much gas I have in my car because they aren't moving. The first time it stopped working a fuse wasn't all the way in I pushed it in underneath the hood and it worked. Then the next time that it went out I tried that same fuse and pushed it in and it still didn't work I had someone check the fuse and they said that the fuse wasn't burnt out. They pulled the fuse out and put it back in and it worked. Now this is the third time that this has happened and nothing is working. I took it to the dealer and they said something about the clusters need to be fixed. This car is only two years old and I should not be having these types of problems with this car I don't have 700 dollars to pay for this and this car is still practically new.

While driving down road at any speed the system will reset self like the clock will reset to 1200 and the seat belt light will flash on and motor light and airbag light all will flash and during that time the car has shut it self off then come back on like nothing happened. Then it will die completely I have had it in the shop twice and no one can find the problem. I have about got rear ended while this has occurred. It has done this 3 times in one week and 2 times in another week . This is a very bad problem and really needs to be looked at. It is a shame that people cant get a good car without problems I haven't had this car 1 month yet it is a used car 2001 but only has 46300 miles on it I believe there is something wrong with the computer system somewhere all I have had is a run around and I pay to much a month on this car. I pray everyday when me and my daughter gets in it that we don't get hurt or worse killed. Please let some one here read and help. This is a serious matter.

I bought this Neon in August of 1998, it has been nothing but problems since purchase. I have had to have the electrical system worked on twice. When you go over 60mph the steering wheel rattles. The speakers for the radio work sometimes. The overhead light comes on while driving. When it rains the front floor boards get soaked with water. The 1998 Dodge Neon that I bought has been nothing but a problem. Along with numerous, and I do mean numerous electrical problems, the head gasket has blown twice. And as we all know they are not cheap to replace. Dodge should be made to reimburse all such problems.

68 Electrical System problem of the 1997 Dodge Neon

69 Electrical System problem of the 1996 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 03/17/1999

I have had my car in for repair 4 times in 3 yrs. First the spark plugs were bad, had to be replace. Second the wires melted together in my steering wheel column, 4rd the fueld sensor went out in fuel pump had to have the fuel pump replaced. Ask warrenty company what most common problem with the Dodge Neon was they said the head gasket blowing, now I guess it's my turn for that I took to dealer today for oil leak , they said head gasket blown, need to tear down engine to make sure nothing else is bad ( cracked block / head) seems like an awful lot of problems for a car that's not that old and has been maintained, very dissapointed in vehicle.

70 Electrical System problem of the 1998 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 07/09/1998

The date that I put down earlier, is the first time the engine check light came on. It happened again on 7/29/98, mileage 3,549; again on 10/22/98, mileage 8,234; 11/12/99, mileage 27,421; and again on 1/10/00, mileage 31,000. Everytime this happens, my car looses power! I am on the highway all the time and this is a very big problem. Also, when this happens my rear defroster does not work properly and my radio sounds funny. This car has been in numerous times and they cannot seem to fix it. My warrenty will be up very soon and I am still having the same problem. The car is starting again to loose power, but it will run like this for quite awhile before the light comes on! this is very obviously a manufacuturer defect and they do not want to take responsbility for it!.
