The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine piston detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

Consumer states engine makes a knocking sound, bogs down while shifting, and has lost power and speed, vehicle surges while driving at speeds of 50-60 mph.
My Neon started making a noise--knocking noise in the pistons at around 5800 mi. Contacted Chrysler about the problem. A representative from Chrysler told me that the noise was normal for those type of cars. You can hear the noise when it's warm out from aprox. 10ft away--this is wrong for a new car.
