I was involved in a minor collision with a small atv on public trails on dnr property in south carolina. While the atv escaped damage, the front bumper of my truck was a total loss. I would hate to see the amount of damage and the lack of protection if involved in a crash with another vehicle. Also, according to the associated press in the greenville news on 04/21/2001, tests conducted by the insurance institute for highway safety said that these bumpers sustained "excessive" damage in 5 mph crashes. Repair bill from test--$2006.

3 Bumper problem of the 1997 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 12/12/2000

Front bumper fell off vehicle on driver's side. Part on passenger side is loose. Bolts fell out of bumper mounting brackets. Contacted dealer and dealer told consumer to call NHTSA.
