Dashboard Crack Problems of Dodge RAM

Multiple cracks in the dash have occurred, forming sharp edges and points that are hazardous in case of hard stops or accidents. The manufacturer refuses to acknowledge danger, stating this is a cosmetic issue, but the sharp, hard plastic is indeed a safety hazard. A mandatory recall and replacement of the dash plastic should be ordered.

The vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Ram truck. The dash board has cracked and poses a safety hazard by dangerous sharp pieces. If I was in an accident one of these pieces could inflict potentially severe injury.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pickup and the dash is cracked and have a couple of large holes approximately 8 inches wide. I have heard that there are many other 2001 Dodge Ram's that have this same problem. I am concerned about the wiring behind the dash exposed to the elements. I am concerned about component failure and possibly a fire resulting from exposed wiring.

I have 2004 Dodge Ram dashboard has began cracking badly. Have read many others with the same problem. Why isn't Chrysler being held accountable for this obvious product defect?.

The 1997 doge Ram dashboard started cracking, and now there was a large hole in the center of the dashboard.

The dashboard started cracking around 60,000 miles. It has continued to crack and all of the plastic vent covers have fallen apart into the vents. I have now found out that the insulation in the dash is dry rotting and falling into the a/c vents and causing problems with the a/c motor. This could potentially cause an electrical problem.

Cracked dashboard.

2001 Dodge Ram - the dashboard started cracking and has since cracked from front to back and now into the front trim pieces. Dash pieces are now falling out and popping out while driving. This is distracting and dangerous. I am concerned the cracks may affect the deployment of the passenger airbag in the case of a collision. Thousands of the same reports are visible across the internet. This should be a mandatory recall. Chrysler refuses to fix as this is not a "recall item".

The contact owns a 1997 Dodge Ram. The contact stated that the vehicle's dashboard has begun to crack. The crack travels from the windshield down to the front of the dashboard. The dashboard has continued to crack into tiny pieces. The engine size and number of cylinders are not available. The current mileage is 169,000 and failure mileage was 100,000. The dealer contact information is also unavailable.

Vehicle's dash has cracked in numerous places (10+) some surrounding the passenger airbag. In an accident the airbag could be damaged or cut by the dash failures. In a worse case, parts of the dash could impale the passenger or driver in an accident.

The contact states dashboard cracked on the passenger's side over top of the air bag compartment. The manufacturer and the dealership were contacted. They offered no free remedy. No repairs have been made.

The board 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab dashboard is all cracked and breaking apart. Read about this problem in my local action line section where other Dodge owners of different models between the years 2000 and newer were having the same problem. The dashboard started cracking near the vents and has proceeded to break in other places along the entire dashboard, about less than a month after the warranty expired. I' have asked around to people related in the industry, and have been informed that was a very costly repair. Several hundred dollars worth. Also, I have a friend who experienced the same problem on a 2000 Dodge 1500 . Please help, thank you.

5/8/07. 2001 Dodge Ram. Consumer states that the dash shows cracks and is falling apart.

The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram. Three years ago, the contact noticed a crack on the dashboard. Currently, the crack has spread so far that the dashboard is completely damaged and coming apart. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that there was a recall ; however, her vehicle was not included. The contact stated that the cruise control sporadically disengages while driving. She further stated that the speed control switch took a long time to activate. The consumer stated broken pieces from the dashboard can injure or kill someone. The powertrain, recall number, and speed were unknown. The failure mileage was 87,000 and current mileage was 140,000. Updated 01/03/08. Updated 12/31/07.

Right side of the dashboard was removed to repair the air conditioning. Dealership denied the problem, and agreed to repair it for 50% of the cost. Dealership caused the defect. The dashboard started cracking around in March/April 2004. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they indicated that the cracking was not there fault. The crack initially started on the passenger side near the screws by the windshield now there are several cracks on both sides of the dash.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500. Dashboard has numerous cracks in it. Pieces are falling down inside front compartment and could cause other issues (electrical, etc. ). This has been happening for ~5-7 years.

The dashboard on our 2001 Dodge Ram pickup cracked only after a year. We took it so the dealership in mcalester, ok (riverside Dodge) and they refused to fix it. They said it was not covered under warranty. Now there is an 8 inch hole in the dashboard and numerous cracks over the entire surface and even on the inside trim work. Since first reporting this, it has come to my attention that there are hundreds if not thousands of vehicles exactly like ours with the same problem. We feel that Dodge/Chrysler needs to recall this and take care of this dangerous problem. We have seen and heard of reports on the internet about electrical problems, etc that worries us too.
