5 Ignition problem of the 1998 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 10/19/2001

Spark knock noticed, vehicle taken to nearest Dodge dealership(colonial dr. , orlando,FL). Vehicle was evaluated by computer diagnostic system and road test: reported as normal. On further insistance and discussion, service tech found intake manifold gasket was defective and would need replacement. It was also mentioned by this dealership, as well as by several other mechanics, that this is a problem Dodge is having on v-6 and v-8 style engines. This problem has become so widespread that Dodge has published bulletins on repair of this defect. Dodge has also agreed to repair this defect in the v-6 engines. Since I am the owner of a v-8 engine that this defect also exists, I feel Dodge is responsible for the failure of the part in my engine and I should be compensated for the diagnostic test and repair of engine manifold plenum pan gasket. Thank-you for your assisstance in this matter.

7 Ignition problem of the 1999 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 04/13/2001

I purchased my truck brand new in Nov. Of 1998 with approx. 10 miles on it. After about 6 months of ownership, we started having problems with the truck quitting for no apparent reason. We have taken the truck into several different dealerships for the same problem over the past 2 years, and each time the vehicle was sent home with us unfixed, telling us that they could not get the truck to duplicate the problem. The problem with thisis that the problem is intermitent. It may quit today, and not again for 2 months, or it may quit today and again tomorrow. We have had the truck in approx. 6-8 times since we purchased it brand new for the same problem, yet unfixed every single time. The truck has had to be towed to a dealership 3x as it quit and wouldn't restart. When the truck quits, the engine simply quits and everything shuts off and the steering wheel locks up. You have no steering control what-so-ever. When it quits, sometimes the truck restarts after about 5 minutes, others times it doesn't restart. As I stated, we have had to have it towed 3x as it wouldn't restart. I am very frustrated at this point. I have called Chrysler and complained everytime the truck has cut out. They gave me a file number and simply take the complaint again, thats all they do. I have requested for a Chrysler rep. Help the service tech. Solve the problem, my request was denied. I have begged for someone from Chrysler assist the dealership in finding the problem, no one came out. I wrote them a certified mail letter explaining to them the seriousness of this problem after my wife and I were traveling back from GA after I had graduated from a military school and we almost killed on the interestate because the truck cut out going 65 miles per hour. I vered the truck to the left side of the median on the interstate which is the only place for me to go. Thank god there was not a dip in the median or I am afraid I would not be sitting here today writing this letter to you. Please help me!!!!.

12 Ignition problem of the 1996 Dodge RAM

Consumer states henderson Chrysler dealership refuses to honor recall NHTSA 00v135000/manufacturer recall 875 concerning ignition problems. Due to past differences. Consumer feels that since it is a safety defect recall done by manufacturer and not by the consumer, dealer must honor it. Because of dealer's refusal, consumer must travel into another town to the next closet dealer, which is 35 miles one way. Work has been performed.

13 Ignition problem of the 1998 Dodge RAM

I have an ongoing problem with preignition (spark knock) in my 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 318 cid/5. 2l motor. . At 24,896 miles, my dealer re-programmed the pcm and re-routed the spark wires. The spark knock continued. At 35,067 miles, the dealer adjusted the timing; I didn't think this could be done. The spark knock continued. At 43,281 miles, the dealer replaced the intake plenium gasket. The spark knock continued. At 45,093, the dealer replaced both engine heads. The spark knock continued. At 57,452 miles, I installed a colder thermostat and this helped somewhat, but the spark knock returned. And, today at 74,834 miles I installed a set of truck spark plugs to see if that will help. The bottom line is that this truck has an inherint defective design in the engine which is being prematurely worn out due to spark knock. I would like the NHTSA to investigate, and help me in securing a replacement for my problem plagued lemon. Thank you!.
