1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

I have had to replace brake rotors/pads 5 times in 70,000 miles. The rotors warp prematurely causing severe shaking and pulsation while braking, creating an unsafe control issue. It is particularly disturbing when slowing down from highway speed.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/21/2013

1st incident 2/21/driving on a 4 lane highway w/center left turn lanes at 40 when a car cut across from the right to make a left turn. Hit the brakes causing the front to lock up (rear abs only). Truck started stopping, but continued moving forward against the front brakes and into the car. Truck left unusually long skid marks. Police and insurance reports made. Damaged to front bumper. 2nd incident 3/5/driving at 40 on curved section of highway with 2 lanes in direction I was going and 1 lane on opposite side separated by large grass medium when a car pulled out from the left hand u-turn in the medium. Hit the brakes causing the truck to slide straight through curve onto grass shoulder. Truck came to complete stop and heard the right rear spinning in the dirt. Put my left foot on the brake to hold truck from moving. I checked to make sure I was not on the gas. It spun for several seconds before stopping. Truck left normal length of skid marks. Did not smell burnt brakes in rear; possibly not engaged at all. I am currently looking to see if I can test the braking at a local dirt track to verify this issue, and to have outside observation of the occurrence. I have replaced all four disk brakes with high performance brake rotors and brake pads to assist with better braking in the last week. I will post the results here once I can arrange the test. Have not had any problems with normal or heavy braking; only emergency braking. First incident resulted in an accident, luckily no injuries. The drive wheel was in the dirt for second incident; there was not an accident. This is a very serious safety issue, and may be the cause of other accidents and not reported because driver could not realize it happened. It appears to be the problem where the abs system causes excessive heat build up resulting in computer malfunction.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

This is an ongoing and old problem with this vehicle. When attaining minimum speeds of 40 or 45mph, applying the brakes causes a vehicle shudder. Its almost like the vehicle is hopping. It causes operator to bounce in seat and is a safety issue as to control. Researching problem online I have discovered other complaints. Replacing brake pads and rotors solves the problem only temporarily. Having brakes checked at mechanic during this issue failed to find fault, and indicated ample thickness on brake shoes. Issue has caused a great vehicle maintenance expense due to frequent brake replacements.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/25/2010

2006 Dodge Ram 1500,steering wheel shakes & truck pulls when brakes applied. Brakes back & front changed rotors & pads. Same condition. This condition was reported June 15/07 7 tie rod ends changed & brakes. The second set of brakes have been installed checked tie rods defective & sloppy on second set. Vehicle has 71727 km`s & Dodge will not change tie rod ends saying truck is out of warranty period. Checking used 2006 to 2008 Dodge rams have had tie rods changed. Suspect Chrysler Dodge does not want to advertise this defect with recall because after tie rods changed alignment is required.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 07/17/2007

Bad pulsation when braking. Brake rotors warped after 12,000 miles. Dealer refused to fix it, had to pay for new rotors and pads after only 12,000 miles had the same problem with the last Dodge truck and they talked me in to this new truck with some money off to solve the problem now that this truck was doing the same thing they want nothing to do with me . . . . . . The truckwas unsafe it felt as if my tirewas going to fall off .

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 06/10/2007

Brake performance failure beginning at 9,000 odometer miles: at approximately 9,000 miles the brakes on my Ram 1500 2 wheel drive began to vibrate when applied. . Normal brake use with 65 to 80% at highway speeds up to 75 mph, with no excessive or extreme load conditions, from purchase up to the initial failure. Being 2300 miles from home I waited to visit the dealer upon return. Now at 12,000 odometer miles the vehicle was experiencing severe chatter when applying brakes and exhibited what I thought was 'parallelism or rotor warping. The dealer informed me that brakes were out of warranty but did provide a visual check and concluded the rear rotors were warped and should be turned. I had the brakes serviced and the rotors turned within days. Again, prior to 10,000 additional miles, application of the brakes produced vibration. As time and miles progressed the vibration became extreme just as before so at some point the rotors were turned again with little if any improvement. I continued to use the vehicle until the situation was so severe the truck would appear to jump rapidly under braking and the more pressure applied the more violent the reaction. The severity was worse at increased speeds. Finally in fear for passenger safety I purchased performance ebc drilled and slotted brake rotors and performance pads and had those installed. The result after a short time was a worse, and even more severe, problem beginning well short of 10,000 miles. The situation is now so bad I have actually been thrown into adjoining traffic lanes. I am convinced a systemic problem exist.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/17/2005

: the contact stated while driving at 30mph, the vehicle was involved in a crash. The brake pedal was depressed; however the vehicle did not stop and hit another vehicle. The contact was wearing a safety restraint and received no injuries. There was considerable amount of damage to both vehicles involved. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership prior to the incident concerning brake problems. The dealer had previously replaced the rear axle, rear brakes, rear brake drum, rear brake pads, brake shoes, linings and also the rear spring. The dealer stated no additional repairs could be completed until the manufacturer released other TSB's. The police filed a report at the scene.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/10/2005

There was no "incident" however a dangerous situation was caught and cured before an "incident" occurred. I own a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. Somewhere around the 13,000 mile mark on the truck I started noticing a shudder in the steering wheel while braking at highway speeds. I finally had my 15,000 service done at 18,697 miles. During that service I had the dealer look into the shudder. It was determined the front rotors were out of round and needed to be resurfaced. This is the issue. Those rotors had absolutely no reason to need servicing at all with that low amount of miles on the truck. The truck had never been used for towing or any other heavy work or braking. There is definitely a manufacturer defect indicated. Also, the dealer did not replace the brake pads when they resurfaced the rotors as according to the dealer, this was Dodge policy on warranty work. However, according to ase standard, it is imperative to replace pads when resurfacing a rotor or to resurface the rotor when replacing the pads. I would suggest an investigation into the number rotor resurfacing services that have been performed on this model of Dodge truck with less than 30,000 miles. Disc brakes and rotors should last no less than 40,000 miles.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/11/2004

8/11/04 I stated to the service rep that the brakes had a shimmy to them. The service tech stated that he would check them out. I left the truck at the dealership so that they could perform the service. I later received a call from the service tech, he stated that my rotors were warped and they would need turning at a cost of $160. 00 or replacement all together. I asked why this was not covered under my warranty. His response was that the rotors are only covered up to 12k miles where I had 13000 miles on the vehicle I was out of the warranty range and that the rotor are a wear and tear item. I contacted Dodge and this is how they replied: thank you for contacting daimlerchrysler concerning the brake rotors on your Dodge Ram 1500. Rotors wear or warp for various reasons - road conditions, driving habits and even the weather can play a factor. Additionally, rotors and pads are a "wearable" item, this is why they are warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles. Please review your warranty manual. I understand your frustration, particularly in view of both the cost and inconvenience involved. One way we are able to gauge what kind of problems our customers are having is through correspondence from owners such as yourself. Your concern has been addressed. The manufacturer's defect warranty has expired, therefore, you are responsible for the repairs in question. Thank you for your understanding, and have a good day. Unacceptable.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/31/2003

Anti-lock brakes. Numerous issues. Brake linings on the rear drums have a very short service life. Replaced drums and linings in July of 2002. Drums and linings required replacement again in may of 2003 (approx. 20,000 miles) front pads were replaced in July of 2002 and still have 1/2 of linings left. On bumpy roads, brake system fades in and out. On wet roads, brakes may or may not work reliably. From researching your site, these are not uncommon occurrences. When will this be addressed?.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/05/2001

I have just over 36,000 miles on the truck. I am on my third set of pads for the front and have replaced the shoes once. In addition, I've had the drums and rotors turned. The dealer responds by charging me to adjust the rear brakes. I have had this done but continue to eat up the front brakes. The manufacturer changed to bigger pads and rotors shortly after my truck was made but dealer & manufacturer are not responsive. Also, the rear antilock doesn't work right.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 11/11/2000

Brakes have never worked correctly, very spongy, have had into shop twice for this at worl thompson, caldwell, ohio. Brakes are very weak and have been since purchase. I had to replace front brake pads at less than 50, 000 miles. I really have to push hard to stop.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/18/1999

Brake pads wore prematurely at 18000 miles. Thompson Dodge who is doing the work said Dodge will pay for parts but not labor which will be 100. 00 labor. They also informed me the new pads are of a better design and should last between 40000 and 50000 miles under normal conditions. 75%of the 18000 miles on my truck are highway miles so I feel that the pads should not have worn out so soon. I that Dodge should reimberse me the 100. 00 that I paid out of my pocket for labor. Dodge's decision on this matter will dictate if my next vehicle purchase will be a Dodge product.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/31/1999

Estremely poor brake response. During moderate braking or with a light trailer/load it takes extremely long to stop the vehicle. Only has rear abs, it has never gone off. You cannot lock the tires except on ice/snow or loose gravel/sand. Been in one accident, numerous other close calls. The brake pedal can be pressed to the floor. Dealer says nothing is wrong, several brake jobs done, now running with ss rotors and ceramic pads with no improvement. I have a friend with the same make/model/year that has 44" mudders and can stop on a dime.

26 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/15/1998

I have had extensive brake problems with my 97 Dodge ram. There has always been a rattle from the front driver's side wheel area. There has also been a intermittent brake pull to the driver side. It became a serious problem after the brakes were replaced at 12000 miles. The truck has also had excessive pad wear. The first set was replaced on5/15/98 with 12314 miles on the truck. The second set was replaced on6/1/98 with 13093 miles. The third set was replaced on 8/13/98 with 16336 miles on the truck. The fourth set of brakes was replaced on 4/6/99 with 25323 miles on the truck. Counting the original set of brakes, which started squealing at approximately 12000 miles, I have had five sets of front brake pads and three sets of rotors put on this truck. Not to mention that the intermittent brake pull has not gone away. Even after installing this last set of pads. I went to arbitration. I had witness statements, but the arbitrator denied my claim to have daimler Chrysler purchase my truck back. I have also had many close calls when the truck would pull to the left into oncoming traffic. The truck has also bounced off of the center median more than once. The pattern is always the same. I get the truck back from a brake repair and it is fine for one to two weeks. After a short while, one to two weeks, the truck starts to make a rattling noise from the front drivers side wheel well, then the brake pedal will get soft. Then the intermittent brake pull starts all over again. I would appreciate any help that you could give me. I have lost confidence in this vehicle, and will not drive it any more than I have to. I also will not let my wife drive it or loan it out to any friends.
