Dodge Ram 1500 owners have reported 84 problems related to brake disc rotor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My (new) '06 Ram 1500 4x4 suffered from pulsating brakes at 9k miles. Took it to the dealer and advised that my '03 dakota had the same problem. They inspected the front brakes and confirmed the rotors had some "run out". They were resurfaced at no cost. Not long after. . . . At 19k miles, the condition arose again. This time, I had to make a 2500 mile trip and couldn't get the truck in beforehand. The dealer "might have considered" fixing them, based on a 12mo/12,000 mile warranty from the first repair. Nevertheless, now at 22k I am told I, too, am sol. We need to contact the manufacture and urge them to consider replacement before accidents occur.

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with 16,000 miles . I recently discovered that the front rotors are warped and after talking to the dealership they informed me that this would not be covered under warranty. After inspecting I discovered that the brake pads are hardly worn at all. The service advisor told me that this was a problem they were seeing on these new trucks. I feel that this is unacceptable and should be taken care of by Dodge.
With 13,500 miles on my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 I started to feel a shudder when braking. I inquired with the dealer and he informed me that it was the rotors. He also informed me that chryslers warranty on the rotors was 12,000 miles. Basically telling me I was sol!.
2004 Dodge Ram 1500 - brake rotor failure
the brake rotors have failed 3 times on the vehicle. The rotors were failed by 9000 miles, 18000 miles, and 24000 miles. The dealer replaced the first two with oem equipment. Dodge claims there is no problem and that this is considered a maintenance item. Vehicle was driven almost exclusively on highway traffic for the 18000 to 24000 mile interval. The 24000 mile rotor replacement was done with performance aftermarket components.

Front rotors have vibrated sence about 12,000 mile.
At 15,000 miles my truck would start pulsating when I applied the brake. Found out the front rotors were warped. Happened again at 30,000 miles. Had rotors turned at my expense.
Truck was bought new with 42 miles and at 9k the brake rotors were replaced because of excessive wear. Again at 14k miles the brakes needed to be replaced, but this time the dealer refused to pay. The rotors only had 5k miles and 3 months. I spoke with chrylser, the general manager of the dealership, and the service manager and they are telling me this is normal wear and tear. I told them this was unacceptable that rotors were wearing out so quickly. I have made 3 attempts to fix the problem and it is still not fixed. I am comtemplating the next step in the repair process. Hopefully, the NHTSA can be of some assistance.
The front brakes shudder violently when I try to stop. I had the brakes fixed but they are doing it again. You don't have to be a genius to know that the rotors are inferior!!! the dealer said this is not covered by warranty. I am the only driver of this truck so I know that I do not over brake. . . This is potentially dangerous.

2002 Dodge Ram 1500 truck - the dash has cracked in several places. I actually saw it crack as I was driving home from work, on a smooth highway. Also, the rotors warped within the first year, the dealer turned them, even though we asked that they be replaced. Several months later we had the same problem with the rotors and the dealer turned them again. Once more, we had asked that they be replaced and we were told Dodge would not pay for the rotors to be replaced.
Brake rotor warping, front and rear-front replaced at approx 15000 miles and both front and rear replaced at 29000 miles.
2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 quad cab - shimmy felt in steering wheel while braking. 1st repair 12/16/03 (7217 miles), 2nd repair 3/24/05 (23401 miles) - Dodge replaced front brake calipers, pads and machined rotors. 3rd complaint 1/19/06 (33315 miles) - Dodge refuses to repair because it's over the 1 year/12000 mile warranty period.

I have encountered a series of brake rotor failures on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 truck. Dealer has twice turned the rotors and once replaced them and the truck has less than 30,000 miles. I was told today that the rotors are warped again and need to be replaced. This truck is not driven hard and there is no good explanation for this problem other than poor quality parts or repair. Dodge will not warranty the brakes or their repairs to brakes. I have now spent over $400 at my local Dodge dealer. . . And no satisfaction. This is my first and last Dodge truck. Hopefully NHTSA will investigate the problem and force Dodge to act.
Have 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with factory installed 20" chrome wheels. Brakes have gone out twice in 23,000 miles, at 13,000 and now again at 23,000. Dealer refuses to accept any manufacturer defect.
The contact stated the rotors warped. They have been replaced once and cut twice. The truck only had 17,794 miles on it. The truck had 6,000 miles on it the first time the rotors were replaced. The dealer did not know what the cause of the problem was.
Component: service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc:rotor details: 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab hemi. At 10,000 miles lots of steering wheel shudder while braking. Many with same complaints. Had same problem with previous Chrysler product and brake repair stated the rotors are built to minimum tolerances. This is why the rotors warp. I see people are getting charged to fix this obvious manufacturers defect. Also, in emergency situations could be life threatening.
At 15,000 miles on vehicle -- vibration, sometimes severe, when braking at speeds over 30 mph. Dealer found all 4 rotors warped. After 3 trips back they performed repairs authorized by Chrysler in technical service bulletin 05-001-05 (replace pads, hub, cut rotors). Did not fix problem. Dealer claims nothing else he can do.
While applying the brakes, the pedal went to the floor the consumer was able to stop the vehicle by applying the emergency brake and drove the vehicle to a mechanic. The mechanic informed the driver the right side rotor exploded. The mechanic recommended that the brake pads, and the left and right side rear rotor needed to be replaced. Please provide additional information.
Before 9000 miles, my front brakes had severe vibration and pedal pulsation. The dealer said the rotors were warped and replaced them. After only 13000 additional miles the problem re-occurred. Again the dealer said the rotors were warped and needed replacement. I have corresponded with the manufacturer and they have denied any problem. The brakes are unreliable and cannot be expected operate correctly in case of an emergency.
I own a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with 20" wheels. Problem is warping rotors. At 8,706 mile had the rotors replaced. At 30,941 miles TSB replaced calipers and turned rotors. At 43,412 miles turned rotors. At 47,300 miles replaced rotors. At 56,137 miles turned rotors. I traded a 1998 Ram 1500 for the 2003, it had 192,000 miles and never warped the rotors. The vibration from the warped rotors has to decrease the efficiency of the brakes, and could eventually cause a failure in a steering or suspension component. If this is not addressed, someone could be seriously injured or killed.
Heavy vibration and squealing when brakes applied. Took truck to dealership where the calipers were to be replaced and roters turned. When the roters were turned they completely disentegrated. Technician stated that I was extremely lucky this did not occur while driving. Calipers and roters were replaced.
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 - brake shimmy / shake, reduced braking power. Rotors replaced twice in 20,000, problem still hapenning. Could not stop quickly almost causing a severe accident.
Rotors: rotors: rotors, I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 (hemi) and at 11,000 miles both my front and rear rotors were warped and rears were grooved like a record player. Dealer replaced the rotors but not the pads. I now have an additional 5,000 miles on the vehicle and again my rotors are warped.
Vehicle has approximately 16,000 miles on it. At approximately 11,000 miles, the brake rotors became warped. Initially, the condition was barely noticeable and progressive escalated until it became a violent shudder. The rotors were resurfaced at the dealer at approx 12,300 miles (at my expense). The vehicle has again begun to show signs of this occuring. Refer also to complaint numbers 10059615, 10087061, 10086270, and 10087061.
Front brake rotors warped. Mileage driven was less than 13,500. No cause on operator part for failure. Had rotors turned to correct problem.
I have a 2004 Dodge ram that barely has 12,000 miles on it, and the rotors are already warped. The brakes are getting to the point that you can almost loose control of the vehicle even at low speeds. I haven't been to the dealer yet, but already know the likely out come. This has been a known problem with Dodge/Chrysler vehicles for years and continue to plague even the new models. There is an extremely large number of websites posting complaints on this very issue and Dodge/Chrysler has refused to do anything to correct the problem other than put on a quick band-aid. Then they won't even do that after 12,000 miles. I previously owned a 99 grand cherokee with the same exact problem and am very disgruntled that it is still a problem almost 5 years later with the new vehicles. I do not think people are too happy spending 25k to 30000 on a vehicle that they have to take in and get the same thing fixed over and over every 6 -10k miles during the life of the vehicle. This is truly an issue that needs to be investigated extensively.
2004 Dodge ram p/u 20" rims. Braking problem: returned to dealer for second time to replace warped rotors seems to occur approx. Every 7000 miles. Apparent design problem - resulting in diminished braking capability.
Rotors warped at 14000 miles and now are warped again at 24000 miles. Dealer states driving habits. Never had this problem with any other vehicle and didn't expect it from a 35000 dollar, tough built truck. Something needs to be done.
I own a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. The brake rotors warped within 10,000 miles. After extensive talks with the dealer they machined the rotors. After another 10,000 miles, they warped again. After talking to several Dodge ram 2003 owners I learned that many have been having similar problems. I feel that the dealer should replace my rotors. The steering wheel has extreme wobble when breaking with the warped rotors.
I went to midas and had my brakes checked due to the fact when I began to slow down my truck would shake and bounce like the rotors were warped. My truck has only 30,000 miles and it has always shaked a little from the day I got it.
Brake shimmy, warped rotors at 6,000 miles. Resurfaced and failed again at 15,000. Truck is mom's Mini-van. Only pulled a tent trailer once. I believe there is a design flaw or brakes too small for heavier "hemi" engine.
Warped front brake rotors within first 7500 miles. Dealer turned rotors but rotors warped again within 5000 more miles. Dealer says out of warranty.
When slightly depressing the brake pedal, lots of shaking.
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 truck. Within 8 months of purchasing this truck the trucks brake rotors warped, causing the truck to shake violently upon pressing the brakes. Dodge has yet to issue any sort of recall and I have read thousands, upon thousands of other owners have the same issue. There are times when I drive my car where I have to struggle just to keep the car in control when I brake. Something needs to be done about this.
