Failure Date: 01/21/2021

My airbag light came on and stayed on and my horn or cruise control does not work. Not sure if I got in an accident that my air bag would actually deploy. . Thinking it is a clock spring issue. . Had a recall on my 2011 wrangler and same thing was happening to that vehicle also. . This happened right after I started the vehicle after work today.

5 Horn Assembly problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/14/2015

Our truck began stalling the engine at low speeds in Dec. 2015, I changed all 16 spark plugs thinking this would fix the issue, it didn't. About 2 weeks after this started, I was trying to unlock the truck with the key fob for a short trip into town. The headlights would flash, but the doors would neither lock or unlock with the fob. I opened the door with the key and started the engine. The idiot lights for the air bags and the traction control were both illuminated. We had never had any issues with any of this previously. Next, I tried to lock the doors for the trip, using the pdl switch and found it to be inoperable. Also not working were the pw, hvac system, horn, and windshield wiper system. This was so very strange that I googled these symptoms and discovered the tipm, totally integrated power module, for these vehicles are failing at an alarming rate. Thank god that my wife didn't stall this truck in a highway driving situation and become the victim of this known and documented safety flaw in these vehicles. Fiat/Chrysler needs to step up to the plate and repair these vehicles before lives are destroyed due to this defect.

6 Horn Assembly problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Key fobs, remote door lock/unlock failing. Key fobs keep failing, buy new fobs and after about a year they fail. Owners resort to unhooking the horns as the horns sound when manually unlocking the doors with the key. This is a stationary failure of the fob. However if owners are disconnecting the horns, that would be a safety problem while driving when the need to alert other vehicles arises. Vehicle owners are not purchasing new fobs due to cost but rather disconnecting their horns so that the alarm does not sound when unlocking the drivers door to gain entry. Many owners are not reporting this defect due to the fact that they don't see it as a safety issue with the vehicle. A quick internet search reveals a vast # of complaints on website forums. Source-I am an ase master tech. I have an 09 1500 that this is happening to. I do not disconnect the horns but rather just don't lock the truck. (taking a chance against theft).

9 Horn Assembly problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/31/2015

Horn sounding for no apparent reason. . . . Checked online and found that numerous sites carrie information about this issue. Everything from shrunken rubber horn pad to contact inside the horn. Vehicle has never been in frontal collision and bags never deployed. Removed fuse and forgot about it and should have removed relay as other circuts were still open and killed a good closed cell battery. So fuse out, horns disconnected and still looking for relay. Dodge claims no knowledge of issue. . . . Bull jive. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

10 Horn Assembly problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

Driving truck in town approx 35 - 40 mph. Can give exact detail / location. Vehicle transmission in "drive". Vehicle has center consul. As vehicle was climbing gradual hill, transmission automatically downshifted. Vehicle immediately went to full throttle uncontrollably. Engine rpm jumped to 6k - 7k. Vehicle speed still increasing. Stepped on gas pedal several times thinking it was stuck with no effect - rpm remained constant. Then put both feet on brake pedal - rpm remained constant. Then shifted transmission into neutral position. Check etc / red lightning bolt message now on in message center located between tach & speedometer. Rpm's now at a constant 4k with vehicle in neutral and coasting. No place to turn off without blocking traffic. Stopped at lighted intersection - vehicle still at 4k rpm. Shifted back into "drive", tires chirped and truck lunged forward still at 4k rpm. Parked vehicle in safe place adjacent to gas station and shut off - transmission still either in gear or neutral. Engine off - shifted into "park". Waited 3-4 minutes and attempted to restart vehicle. Engine icon, ect icon and red steering wheel with explanation point icon where all on. Vehicle cranked, but acted like no fuel / spark and would not start. Vehicle towed to dealership on flatbed. No word back from dealer yet. Mileage 5,443 - mostly highway. Note: no floor mats just factory rug and cruise control was not "on" or in use in any way. Only modifications to vehicle are the addition of a spray bed-liner and topper. I was born and raised around cars and have good mechanical ability including ground-up restorations of pre 1970 vehicles. This is a real and tangible example of a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 bighorn with unintended acceleration. This is unacceptable for any vehicle, but especially for a new, $46,000 vehicle. I am lucky that I did not hurt anyone or end up dead.

11 Horn Assembly problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

Our 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 is experiencing issues with the tipm (totally integrated power module). The vehicle starts intermittently and will/could stop running/shutdown at any time. We have had the truck serviced only to find that this particular part is about $650-800 to replace plus labor. The issue not only could be dangerous if the vehicle does not start but if it dies while operating. After extensive research it was discovered that this issue is not only a large issue in Dodge ram, but also in numerous other Chrysler vehicles. Some have experienced issues such as windshield wipers, the horn blowing, lights turning on and off randomly while driving. Even after removing the key and shutting down the engine, the issues would not shut off. The wipers can and have decided to not work, which could lead to a real hazard when driving in the rain. The check engine light comes on sporadically, as does the air bag light. Not knowing if the air bag will even function in an accident. There is an enormous backorder on the tipm due to the high volume of vehicles requiring replacement. I was told "unofficially" by a service rep that the reason for the backlog is also due to Chrysler changing the manufacturer and in turn, increasing the price of the part. This needs to be replaced at the cost of Chrysler, not the owner. This is a safety issue and needs to be recalled immediately! any help you can provide would be more than appreciated.

12 Horn Assembly problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the horn failed to sound after numerous attempts. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the horn would activate only when pressure was applied to the logo that was affixed in the center of the steering wheel. The technician also informed the contact that the vehicle was functioning as designed. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 2,900.

13 Horn Assembly problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The ram trucks use a logic circuit to control all electronics. The horn in these vehicles also uses this logic circuit, instead of using the traditiional direct connect or relay configuration that most cars/trucks use. Because of this logic circuit, there is an approximate 1 second delay between the time the horn is depressed until the horn actually sounds. This vehicle was in for service this week and the dealer indicates this is normal for this truck. This is dangerous. By the time the horn sounds, an accident could have occurred. This does not just affect my truck. This problem is well documented on the ram owners forum , with some people having longer or shorter delays. A quick tap of the horn yields no sound, because you must press on the horn for about a second before the horn sounds.

14 Horn Assembly problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

My 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 on multiple occasions has nearly allowed accidents due to the horn being delayed. I complained and took in to the dealership to be repaired but the Dodge service representative told me there is not a problem because it works as designed. Obviously there is a flaw in their design. I researched this problem on the internet and many people have complained of the same thing. The horn control on this particular model operates through the computer and that is what is said to be causing the delay. The delayed horn in my vehicle has nearly allowed accidents on multiple occasions by consequently causing a delayed response from the drivers of other vehicles. Dodge needs to fix the problem before people are seriously hurt or killed. Thanks for your help!!.

15 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/28/2012

The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 quadcab. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact approached a turn however, the turn signal failed to respond when engaged. The windshield wipers, horn and rear brake lights became inoperable. In addition, both turn signals would not function upon activation. A certified mechanic inspected the vehicle and was unable to determine the cause of failure. In addition, large fragments of material separated throughout the dashboard surface. There were also numerous cracks within the dashboard. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the permanent malfunctions. The approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

16 Horn Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/12/2012

My blinker lever does not work properly. When I use the left turn signal it started to blink to the right. Throughout the rest of the day it would do this intermittently. I was going down a heavy traffic area and used my left turn signal. A car two lanes over slightly behind me starting honking their horn at me because it was attempting to go one lane over to the right. We both tried to go into the middle lane at the same time and I initially thought it was the other driver's fault. I looked at my blinker lever and I did have it in the correct position for a left signal. I then looked at my light display for the blinker and it was flashing to the right. My wife told me about this happening before without me in the vehicle but this I finally got to experience it myself. If it wasnt for my awareness and the other vehicle honking their horn, then we would have collided. Ever since that day I experienced it myself, I have noticed it happening more frequently now. Sometimes I use the blinker lever and I get no turn signal at all anymore except for pressing the lever harder down or up. I am now more concerned about correct turn signals coming from the lever and it takes away from my situational awareness while driving.

19 Horn Assembly problem of the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/13/2010

Truck purchased July 31st, 2009. Since then on four separate occasions with two different drivers, the horn has not worked when pushed. Truck was taken to the dealership twice since purchase. Dealership stated both times there was no found issue. Horn continues to intermittently not work, with two most recent occasions 2/ 16/10 and 4/13/2010. Speed varies from 30-70 mph when horn failure occurs.

20 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

Driving through a puddle after a rain storm, several safety features stopped functioning: wipers, turn signals, horn, headlight control. I'm not sure what else is not functioning but these have been verified. Narrowed the problem down to the fcm (front control module). The fcm is connected to the ipm (integrated power module). Come to find out the ipm is not sealed from the elements. The circuit board is exposed from the bottom which allows water to splash into the module thereby shorting the fcm. I believed Dodge knows this is a poor design and is unsafe because I've read that they've designed a replacement ipm which is sealed from the elements. This is dangerous because of obvious reasons.

21 Horn Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 03/29/2008

In cold dry weather the ignition system shorts causing the horn lights and chimes to activate. The dealer has witnessed this three times, but said that Chrysler has no history of this happening and has no fix for the problem. The truck has been back to the dealer numerous times, several inhouse fixes were tried, but the problem still exists. A representative from Chrysler customer assistance told me that the problem is an act of nature and Chrysler in not responsible, but he refused to give me the statement in writing. The problem started about 3 weeks after I got the truck in January 2006.

22 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 11/29/2007

Horn does not work unless you hit it in the right spot and you have to hit it very very hard to the point where it hurts your hand, then some times it still don't work. It is a safety hazard and should be recalled.

23 Horn Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/02/2007

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 st. The problem is static electricity in the ignition switch which Chrysler engineer have acknowledged that their is a problem and the problem is when the weather is dry and I go to start my vehicle the surge of the static electricity in the air sets of my horn, my chimes, my interior lights, my cargo lights and my open door lights. The horn blare for up to 3 to 4 minutes and the rest takes an hour or more to reset themselves or I have to disconnect the battery to get them to stop. The dealer ship gave me a can of static guard to spray on my seats to keep this from happening. At night when this happens, I have to cut off my instrument panel lights in order to drive because of the interior lights staying on. I have tried the lemon law etc. Dave weinberger a spokesman with Chrysler has not kept me abreast of what is going on. I want my truck fixed or replace with another. My family has allergies and the spraying of this static guard is not helping their conditions either! again Chrysler is the ones who told me that they knew of the problem and are dragging their feet to fix it.

24 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Horn button doesn't work. When it does work, it won't turn off. Horn button is connected to the airbag on my truck.

25 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. In 2006, the battery was replaced in the contact's vehicle. When he started the vehicle, the headlights remained illuminated and the turn signals, horn, and brake lights no longer worked. He called daimler Chrysler and was informed that there were no recalls for the vehicle. The contact stated that the tail lights did not work when the vehicle was purchased. He feels these are all safety issues. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 138,844 and failure mileage was 84,000.

26 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/08/2006

The horn on my 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 will only blow with about 50 lbs of pressure applied to the steering wheel and only if you push on the exact spot. This is a big safety issue a guy backed out of a parking spot and right into the side of my truck . I tried to blow the horn but I couldn't get it to work until it was to late.

27 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 12/31/2005

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. The dash cracked in several places a couple of years ago along with the bezel. Also have a problem with horn, it is very hard to activate when pushed. These items are a concern being near or part of the air bag deployment if in a crash. I believe the dash and bezel are cheaply made and Dodge needs to replace these at what ever cost to prevent possible injury if persons are in a crash while operating or riding in their vehicles.

28 Horn Assembly problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 09/09/2005

I had an electrical problem with the instrument cluster, which caused all of my gauges to stop working. No speedometer, odometer, battery, oil or temperature gauge. My turn signals, horn, interior lights, wipers, and power door locks also failed. I also discovered that I had no stop/brake lights or fog lights, but had headlights and parking lights even though the interior switch was in the off position. Even though this truck was purchased new in January of 2002 at jerrys Dodge (now safford Dodge, and the three year warranty was just up, I only had 7,078 miles on the truck at the time of the incident. The dealer replaced the cluster but I had to pay. I think this cluster suddenly going out is a major safety hazard. Thank god mine went out in the day time and not at night. I could have been rear ended as it is. This is the fourth incident of a failed instrument cluster that I know of. I am sure there are more, and I have read that chryslerdaimler/Dodge has had cluster problems in some of their other vehicles.

31 Horn Assembly problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/26/2004

Horn is hard to blow. Rear end makes whining noise and it started using 5 quarts of oil between oil changes. I only have 36000 miles on it. They replaced manifold intake gasket at my expense. The fuel gauge does not work right. Luckily I didn't ruin the engine that I know of. I understand there have been a lot of problems with intake gaskets. How long does it take to get a recall on defective parts?.

32 Horn Assembly problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/04/2004

Passenger side exterior mirror is defective. It will not remain stationary and move around in the wind. Within the first week of ownership, a smell of fuel became increasing stronger and a whining sound upon takeoff became louder. I found the leak at the end of the driver's side plastic! fuel rail next to the fire wall above the intake manifold. This started after outside temperature reached 1 degree fahrenheit. Fuel falls directly onto a really hot motor. Fog lights, cruise control and horn does not work.
