6 Ignition problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 05/02/2008

I started the truck one day, and I noticed the speedometer going crazy, and I had yet to put the truck in gear. At that same time the abs and brake lights both lit up. I did notice with the truck not even running and the ignition turned to the on position, the speedometer still goes crazy, moving from 0 to 120 mph. At this point, all I have done so far is to take it to a shop for evaluation, and they were unable to diagnose the problem. I did some research on the NHTSA website, and found there were 5 other complaints with the same problem. The more I look into this, it appears to be a manufacturers defect.

Failure Date: 12/15/2005

Stalling issue with 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 ext cab. Approx 2500 miles. Truck stalls intermitently while in reverse or shifting from reverse to forward. The issue has occured several times since purchasing the vehicle. The dealer has investigated two or three times. Initial investigation determined possible cause as contact issues with ignitiion swith module and it was replaced. Since then the truck has stalled two additional times and is again at the dealership for investigation into root cause. The dealer is having a difficult time determining the issue since the stalling is intermittent and cannot be easily repeated. Overall the dealer has been responsive to the issue but has not yet implemented a permanent fix.

Failure Date: 09/10/2005

Like many of the other consumers who have filed complaints about their 2004 Ram 1500 5. 7l trucks, I too have taken my truck to performance Dodge in glendale az to have them fix the stalling problem with my vehicle. The service manager did not know of this type problem happening on this vehicle. After four hours of waiting, they said that they found p2299 brake switch position/apps incompatible, checked brake switch and apps sensor operations, and guess what, all working normally. They then checked mds for tsbs found tech svc bulletin 18-016-05 and performed this service. Drove the vehicle home and guess what, same problem. I will be back at the dealer again to play the game. This is a serious safety hazard and should not be taken lightly. Since this is our main mode of transportation I very concerned for my family's safety.

15 Ignition problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 10/23/2004

Regarding the stalling problem on a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab hemi sport truck. Currently this is the sixth time it has stalled. The latest incident occurred when I rounded the corner to exit the airport parking lot. The vehicle had no power steering or brakes as of the result of stalling and was hard to control. 17 Ignition problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2004

2003 Dodge ram, 1500, 5,7 ltr. Hemi, has stalled and would not start or run. Towed in three times. Total times in shop - six or seven times. Problem still occurs, but stalling is not as severe since last service. Truck is used for farm and pulling camper. Cannot use for long trips and camping due to fear of stalling and being stuck in the middle of nowhere. Dealer has replaced many parts and believes problem is solved, but stalling continues, although not as severe. I'm reluctant to pursue further action as dealer is personal friend and I believe they have tried as best as they can. This vehicle is a lemon.

18 Ignition problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/23/2002

This vehicle shut down the ignition at 70 mph on highway. Several times. It would restart after a waiting peroid of 10 -15 minutes. Took to dealer initally and was told nothing wrong. I told them the ignition shut down I thought due to asd timing failure sensed. But no action taken by dealer . I was paying as warranty expired. Did it again in 3 weeks. Took to dealer and he changed crank prox switch although the truck was driven to dealer. For a vehicle to shut down from a computer "glitch" at speed when there is absolutely nothing wrong mechanically with it is strange logic and dangerous. Dan johnson.

24 Ignition problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/01/1999

When driving, the truck makes clicking sound coming from the engine, but before a loss of power is felt. When we first took in the truck, the mechanics at cal worthington said they could not hear anything or feel any loss of power. After they claimed they fixed the problem, the problem kept coming back. After several times they still claimed they did not know what the problem was, until we got furious and upset. They claimed that they knew what the problem was, and they also claimed that most of their trucks had the same problem. Even though we have taken in our truck several times, they have done nothing to stop the noises and loss of power. To this day the problem is still occuring specially when when going up a small ascent. The problem also occurs quite frequently at the 60-70 mph range. We have not figured out what the problem is, but they do. From what we have noticed over the past years that we have taken in the truck for repairs they have done absolutely nothing to stop it.

25 Ignition problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500

Not sure, but sounds to me like your NHTSA item number sb049106(electrical system:ignition:electronic control unit). There is a surge of r. P. M. `s of 2000 or 3000 and a grinding or "harshness" sound at different times.
